I agree, future players shouldn't be punished for actions they weren't a part of. The article said the team was sent back so I interpreted it as the whole team had 3/4 inch cleats on. I also feel, if it was only a few players, then a forfeit wouldn't have been offered, but maybe ejection from the game for the few that tried. I don't know if the team made the decision to cheat unbeknownst to their coach, or if the coach told them to, but I think someone should find that out. If the coach is guilty, he should get reprimanded, like a written warning in his personnel file if he does that again, he's fired. If the team did it, I don't know, maybe banning the team from participating in graduation ceremonies. Or banning the players from being on the baseball team, or making them come to Folsom High and clean up the trash from the school grounds. I just hate it when cheaters are allowed to get off scot-free, as it only encourages them to try to cheat again.

I agree with the sentiment, but I guess I have a soft spot for kids in athletics. IF they made the decision to knowingly cheat, that's sad. Surprisingly one of the articles on this actually reported the coach saying that was their "regular cleats"? Hard to imagine that he was that ignorant and my investigation would start and end there. As the head coach, he is ultimately responsible for EVERYTHING associated with the program. But at the end of the day, I have a hard time punishing teenagers trying to compete while their classmates and peers are sitting at home or in the stands doing MUCH worse and getting a pass. I know it's not right, but that's how it is. Even if it was their regular cleats, they put in countless hours of work and sacrifice to get their....they may have made a bad decision along the way, but they worked incredibly hard to get there.

I had no idea that there was a rule for what size cleats were allowed. Perhaps due to all the rain and the condition of the field they thought longer cleats would work better? While I don't condone cheating, if they have worn them before without trouble, and their coach was not aware of it, I could see how it might be an oversight.
