Looks like he's still going forward - per the SacBee Article:

Chez Daniel SacBee

"Reached at the new place Tuesday, Pont said he was frustrated with a bureaucratic stalemate – in this case, the fire alarm didn't meet the city's approval, and the two sides had been tussling over it for a month."

this is not good. it says he was hospitalized before over stress in dealing with code issues. we need to encourage new businesses as much as possible. I hope someone can help with this.

How did the previous business open if there is an issue with the fire alarm? Did the codes change? Bad day for the inspector? Doesn't make sense.

It's like getting a Home Inspection, different guy, different day, different results.

In Folsom it's a nightmare, I know of many business's that have had to wait for months to get code inspection approval for a variety of reasons. Just getting a sign approval alone in this town takes months.

I can see how this would be a major stress factor on Daniel.

Does our town only have 1 inspector?

Daniel Pont said he was frustrated with a bureaucratic stalemate – in this case, the fire alarm didn't meet the city's approval, and the two sides had been tussling over it for a month. (Read more: http://www.sacbee.co...l#ixzz1cZphgoBa)

How does a fire alarm system that once passed inspection, no longer pass inspection? To me this sounds like made up bureaucratic bs to get more money out of small businesses. When will city and state gov't realize they should be embracing small businesses and encouraging them to setup shop in our city/state - instead they make it more and more difficult for everyone to open a business here.

Anyone who wants to open a business in Folsom will need a whole lot of patience, in addition to $$$

I remember when Julie was trying to open the Acorn Cafe she had an absolutely HORRIBLE time with the inspection. All the bureaucratic bullsh$t and red tape caused her opening the cafe to be pushed back 3 months resulting in her losing the holiday business she was counting on. She had to pay rent for 3 extra months with no income and they just never really caught up after that.
Folsom is cutting off its nose to spite it's face.

Maybe he should consider Roseville since they seem to have absolutely NO PROBLEMS with opening new businesses, malls, restaurants etc.
In record time no less.
Puts Folsom to shame.

It really is a damn shame Folsom treats new businesses this way.

I have a customer who's website I finished 4 months ago and he's STILL waiting for city inspection approvals to open his new business.

How the heck can a business survive if they're paying rent on a building for months that won't generate any income because they cannot open their doors due to BS from the city?

Our city leaders need to wake up! - quit focusing entirely on kissing developers arses for S50 development and start embracing small business owners to bring quality businesses and restaurants to our city!

I don't think it's fair for business owners to pay rent while the city is taking its time with inspections... I think this city is pretty good at lots of things, but permits are not one of them. If this city was serious about fostering small business, it would take a hard look at streamlining its inspection process.

And perhaps the property owner can deduct lost rent from property taxes due to the City not getting its act together.

Seems like the property owner should be on the hook as well if they have a building that isn't up to code..... Why should a tenant pay rent on a space that isn't useable???

Actually, that was last Wednesday's article. I couldn't find updated info elsewhere, but there appears to be this video on KCRA: http://www.kcra.com/...846/detail.html The video won't play for me, probably because it does not like the firewall at work.

Folsom’s Newest Gem!

The three of us went to Chez Daniel, a new French restaurant in Folsom last Saturday, the 12 of November.
Advanced reservation required. Open: Tue - Sat, 5pm - 9pm.
Closed: Sunday & Monday.
Phone: 916.353.1938.

I had the Rack of Lamb Provençale. My two friends had Breast of Muscovy Duck with green peppercorn and Braised Rabbit, with rosemary and mustard sauce.
Every meal came with soup, salad and dessert for $30.00 or less. We had a choice of Vegetable Soup or French Onion Soup, and a Mixed Green Salad.
Our desserts were the Chef’s Surprise. We were given Creme Brûlée, Cream Caramel and Cherries Jubilee.

Along with serving amazing food, the staff of Chez Daniel was friendly and the service was outstanding.
“The atmosphere was great. It had a small, intimate feeling. The music was very gentle and soothing"... said Jean Haney, my guest.
At the end of our meals, Chef Daniel Pont and his wife, the hostess, conversed with all of the tables and made sure our comfort.

On a scale of 1-5 (5 being best), we rate Chez Daniel’s restaurant a 5+ for food, service and ambiance.

There were four owners of this location prior to Chef Pont that were not able to maintain a business. In the restaurant business, any location across from a Courthouse or City Hall in any city, will more than likely fail for a variety of reasons.
Not only is Chez Daniel across from City Hall, Chef Pont is only open for dinner, making his chances at survival slimmer.

However, despite these odds, I am certain that Chez Daniel will succeed. My prediction is that soon enough, Chef Pont will be booked solid 60 days in advanced. Not only is he a talented chef, he is also a wise businessman that possesses the unique quality to successfully run a restaurant regardless of his location and the current economic struggles.

Thank you for the wonderful time!
