Just today I saw a couple of women sitting on the patio furniture at OSH, chit chattting away like old friends. It's an odd place to hang out, but I guess there's nothing wrong with that!

Girl, you got me laughing like I haven't laughed in a long, long time.

Just the image you placed in my mind, is still is cracking me up!

For the rest of you, some of us are very much in love with books and coffee and love to go through many to preview them before we buy. We love the old fashioned "REAL" item, on paper, bound and untouched. I could escape for hours at Borders, in true bliss, with a cup of coffee and the dozen or so books I'd look through. My friend would do the same, stopping only to share a great read or the promise of one. Good times for so little money, except the price of a book, every month or so.

I can't believe I miss Borders so much!

I loved Borders, too, but I get most of my books from the library. Not the best place to socialize, but I good way to find out what books you want to buy.

When the weather is nice, it's great to sit outdoors near Rubio's.

I, too, love real books but love my Kindle and the Kindle app on my iPhone. They don't smell or feel as good, but I have a number of them with me wherever I go. Since I travel often it's nice to keep the size small. Not to mention I ate lunch outside today, reading my book on my phone. No wind with which to deal!

I still try to read prolifically but with the exception of a few select authors, I've stopped buying books. Many books, like music today, are not really worth buying.

For this reason, I'm hesitant to buy a Kindle or e-book reader. I prefer books but my eyesight is getting poor -- I think the ability to enlarge font size would be nice. But until there is a good 'library' program to justify a Kindle, I'll keep using my library card.

It's actually not bad -- pick up a book and a scoop of ice cream on the way out. :)

by the way, has anyone checked the home page for Sergio's restaurant? his wife did some research and came up with some cool inf from the Telegraph when that building was put up in 1952. This should be the theme for that street!! http://www.sergiosfolsom.com/

Oh my goodness, I remember all the people who are in the newspaper picture for the shopping center! Wow, I must be old!I don't remember the old Dairy Queen being a gas station though. Next to the Dairy Queen was the Pioneer Hardware store which was there until at least the late 80's. And of course, who can forget the Bank Club! Ah, such reminiscing.

I miss Pioneer Hardware. They were so nice in there. And knowledgable too. The next best thing now is OSH. I remember peering into the Bank Club one day. It was always so dark in there!! Like a black hole. Sure was popular with the regulars though. An old time sort of saloon.
Knowing the past helps deciphering the future.

Is anyone else curious why a brand new business would purposely design a donut shop to look like it's from the 1970s? I was pretty baffled, maybe it was intentional to look like an old-fashioned donut shop that has been around for a long time.

Because the people that are now old enough to run a business are nostalgic for the 70s and their childhood?

Where have you ever seen a modern looking donut shop?

The Donut Shop - here in Folsom.
It's got modern colors, a colored chalk menu (as opposed to the 70s-era letter boards), modern logo... it doesn't take much.

Was, closed. Prolly like all these fancy cupcake places will be soon. Seems the plain old rickety places like the donut shop next to Raley's are the ones with legs.

I really loved Cinnabon, icing and all! I was very disappointed when their shop closed.
One has to go to Orangevale to get Dairy Queen. And to Citrus Heights now to browse books and get a coffee. That is shameful for Folsom.

Now that Borders has closed, there’s no place to hook up with a friend without going to a bar.
Every town should have a place to get a quick coffee or sandwich with a friend, when there’s not enough time for a dinner or full lunch. And the books were an added bonus with Borders.
Doesn’t seem we have a shortage of bars though!

There seems to be a troubling trend of businesses coming and going in a matter of a year, here in Folsom. I am finding we are having to go out of Folsom, more and more, to shop and dine.

Folsom just hasn’t grown and developed well in a business sense, like say, Roseville. It’s very disappointing. Especially when gas prices are so high. I feel stuck in Folsom, with too few choices.

Have you been to Coffee Republic? The one on Folsom-Auburn is my favorite place to get coffee with a friend. They have good pastries, sandwiches, salads, etc. The interior is cute (exposed brick walls) and they have a patio. And the people that work there are friendly. No books, but still a nice place to chat! They also recently opened a location over on E. Bidwell, but I think the Folsom-Auburn one has more character.

The Broadstone location has recently closed.

Wow, that wasn't open long at all. I hope the original location makes it!

I'm curious to try BJ Cinnamon.
