Both have criminal records. Neither is a saint. Based on the records of both of them, if past behavior is a predictor of future behavior, then this was an unfortunate combination that met up that day.

Although one of them has pled no contest to arguably more serious crimes.

I believe you're mistaken about one of the individuals. What I found on Sacramento County Superior Court website was NO RECORD for Joshua Allen Atkins of any criminal case. There is a Joshua Ellis Atkins with a record that goes back to 2000, so it doesn't appear to be the same Joshua Allen Atkins (he wouldn't have been an adult in 2000 in order to have this type of record - as a minor). Joshua Allen Atkins is listed as being 22 years old.

The other individual, Minor Leon, has a felony assault case filed on 5/28/10 along with several other felonies to which he pleaded no contest to a single felony assault. Then on 7/22/11, he was against charged with several felonies including assaults, batteries, etc., and pleaded again no contest to a single misdemeanor assault. And remember, this kid is 19 years old. How many other 19-year-old do you know who have a felony AND misdemeanor assault conviction on his/her record?

It will be interesting how this investigation progresses (or not).

Thanks, Terry, for posting this. Is there any way to tell if there is a gang affiliation to those cases?
There was another large group gathered yesterday evening in the area.

Just wow! I can't understand half of what they are saying but the half I can understand doesn't sound too good.

After reading that facebook stuff I only have one thing to say... There are a bunch of piece of $hit kids in this town. I would be ashamed if I were their parents.

Yeah I won't be missing his smiling face while he and his "homies" are "kickin' at Lembi chiefing that blunt and gettin' lit and busting into a rap" when I have to take my kids to a soccer game there.

Assault with a deadly weapon and battery , twice .... obviously he wasn't just "walking down the street" and got stabbed by a homeless man. It all starts with doing something you shouldn't be doing.

Yeah it looks like the wanna be gang banger life finally caught up with "homey". If you live like a gang banger and commit crimes and assaults on others like one, then eventually you're going to die like one.

No love lost for anyone who by 19 has a record of attempted murder, assault, battery, robbery etc. We should be thanking Josh, hope he is acquitted and that the judge rules it as self defense.

I have a feeling the "hanging out" happens at different and much later times than the soccer games.

I'm hoping this leads to much more police activity in that area in the evening hours.

I know I saw something about the new police chief having a meet & greet type thing for the public. Does anyone know if that's already happened?

I hope all the facts come to light, so that a correct verdict can be returned.

I am also horrified that Folsom is being infiltrated by the "gangsta" culture, as I hoped it never would be. I hope our police force will step up their resistance to it, and make some arrests for loitering, or whatever it takes. Apparently there's too much illicit activity going on in our parks, parking lots, and alleyways on weekend nights.

In any case, from the information above, it seems that society has been spared many future crimes by the deceased.

I would tend to agree with you, but I also suspect that a lot of them have parents that just don't want to parent their kids.

Just received this news release from the Folsom PD:

An investigation into the stabbing death of a 19 year old Folsom man revealed he may have been involved in a drug deal gone badly. Although the murder of Minor Leon was solved within minutes of his death, the investigation into Saturday night’s murder lasted well into the following day.

Joshua Atkins attracted a passing officer’s attention when he sprinted in front of the officer’s marked patrol car on East Bidwell Street. The officer eventually detained him as he dodged into a nearby alleyway.

Two officers responding to assist to first officer caught the glimpse of a man lying facedown on the sidewalk in front of 616 East Bidwell Street. When they stopped to check of the welfare of the man, they discovered he had been stabbed. The man was non-responsive and had no pulse when paramedics arrived on scene. Despite their life saving efforts, Minor Leon was pronounced dead at Mercy Hospital of Folsom. Officers quickly connected the two incidents.

Good police work on behalf of the officers involved resulted in the immediate capture of Atkins. He was booked into the Sacramento County Jail where he is being held ineligible for bail.

Okay, good, I thought it was just me!

Nope, not just you. I can't believe what they call each other.

Do the parents even have a clue of what their children do at night?

The comments on the Telegraph are just as disturbing, one parent saying something like it's not realistic to expect your kids not to be in trouble these days.

My idea of trouble is your child not calling when they are supposed to and letting you know where they are and who they are with or not doing his or her homework or forgetting to do his or her chores, not a couple misdemeanors or felonies for things like assualt with a weapon or assualt with serious bodily injury. Talk about different parenting styles.
