I don't see a lot of inebriated folks cruising Sutter St with their family before/after dinner or Sat/Sun breakfast.

I have to admit I haven't seen them around breakfast time either, but there was a couple that stumbled out of the pub that "needed a to get a room" right in front of us and our son on our way to an early dinner.

I have been saddled with (pun intended) the role of volunteer coordinator for this year's Cattle Drive. I need your help!

We need people for everything from manning or womaning the street closures to working with the crowds to make sure they know to stand up and step back during the parade, so as not to get hurt by one of the animals.

It's fun, you get to give back and support your community, and you meet some nice folks (especially the kids).

Interested?

There's a General Plan Amendment and Rezone for a 2.6 acre piece of land at 7800 Santa Juanita Ave (Between a church and Davies Park) for development of a 17-unit single-family residential subdivision in the public notice section of The Folsom Telegraph today.

It will be discussed at the next planning commission meeting on June 19, 2013, at 6:30 p.m. if anyone is interested.

Is that not city property?  It seems pretty dense, could it be another low income dump along the border?

I don't know who owns that property.  It didn't mention anything about low-income or multi-family housing.  It looks like it is just single-family.  Is 17 homes a lot for that size lot of 2.6 acres?

I only post these things because I know not everyone has the time to go through the public notices in The Folsom Telegraph and they don't all show up online.  If I lived nearby I might want to know what's going on.

17 homes for  2.6 acres is .15 acres per lot. Not postage stamp size, but not very big either (about 6500 sq ft). However, you have to subtract for streets and other improvements, so the lots will be much smaller proportionally.  Probably around .11 acre per lot (tiny! around 4800 sq ft). Doesn't really seem appropriate in a neighborhood where most homes alone are close to the size of those lots.

Town homes would seem a better usage for that many units in that small of an area.

Thanks, The Average Joe, for going to math school and doing the math for us.  I wonder if it will be one of those communities where there is no parking on the street.

Bernau Development is asking for a conditional use permit for FCUSD for the Granite School site on Mormon Street.  It's for office-related uses.  Meeting will be June 5, 2013, at 6:00 p.m. in city council chambers.  Isn't that what it was being used for before?

When I go to old town its only to get lunch or dinner and a few beers and leave. There's nothing else to do there other then eat and drink.

No, the old historic Granite School building (which is actually pretty cool) and very likely a National Register of Historic Places structure, has been used only for a few public meetings in the old auditorium and as a polling place for elections.  I believe Jerry Bernau was working for the FCUSD to find a better use for the building.  I think its great to see it being used, which means its preservation is more likely.  Just need to maintain its historic integrity and it could be a great asset to the historic district residential area.

I agree I'd like to see the building used.   Last time I went by it looked like some concrete had been pulled up and some work was going on.

Are you sure 909 Mormon St. was only used for meetings?  I do think it was used for offices by the district in the past - Health programs, GATE, and such.  I used to know someone that worked for FCUSD and her office was at the Granite Center.  I went there once to get a TB test in order to be a volunteer at the school.
