Interesting thread. I am considering taking a position in Roseville, but would make Folsom my home. So, I read through this thread. I am really taken back by some of the comments stereotyping muslims. People are listing them as terrorists extremists, etc.. There are terrorist and extremists in every religion. Extreme Christians are just as dangerous as extreme Muslims. Both lose sight of the fact that their religions are about peace and brotherhood.

An argument could be made that it has been extreme christians that have taken us to war in Iraq. A war that was fought for reasons that did not exist. I cannot think of anything more extreme than going to war for the wrong reasons. Furthermore, a lot of people have said it is the Saudis who are funding radical Mosques. On that issue I agree. Fifteen of the eighteen terrorists of 9/11 were Saudis. Yet, we bombed Iraq and have yet to do anything to Saudi Arabia. In fact, George W. Bush is best friends with the Saudis. The same Saudis that people on this board are claiming spread extreme Islam. But, I venture to guess that if someone criticized George W. Bush for taking our nation to war for reasons that did not exist, endangering the lives of our brave men and women of the armed forces, and killing thousands of innocent people, these same people would be calling them traitors and terrorists.

I cannot think of a greater injustice to the world and our brave service men and women than the current Iraq war, which was based on lies, and incompetence by the Bush Administration. Now, that is extremism.

QUOTE(Farley @ Jul 5 2005, 02:34 PM)
Do Islam and Christianity have different origins?
No. Together with Judaism, they go back to the prophet and patriarch Abraham, and their three prophets are directly descended from his sons Muhammad from the eldest, Ishmael, and Moses and Jesus from Isaac. Abraham established the settlement which today is the city of Makkah, and built the Ka'ba towards which all Muslims turn when they pray.

Newcomer,
I absolutely agree with you that our war in Iraq was wrong - from the beginning, and I have taken crap from almost all of my neighbors for the last two years for expresssing my opposition to this immoral war. I was actually requested by my boss to remove my peace pin in the office...
Regardless, I continue to speak out, while I pack-up cards and gifts for our soldiers who were sent there on bad information.
The monumental mistake of our attack on Iraq doesn't lessen the fact that we need to also speak out against the horrors of extremist Islam. Extremism that results in violence is wrong, regardless of where it happens. The Bush administration is no worse that Al Queda. You cannot attempt to justify radical Islam by blaming a radical US Administration.

"Ugh" all the way around to this thread.

For those that don't respond to it, I can say that maybe some feelings run too deep to post on a thread like this. I don't want to engage on this one, but that doesn't mean I don't have VERY passionate views on this (Not to speak for others, but I can safely say there are some that probably feel the same way).

Part of the Islamic faith:

The Prophet said:

'God has no mercy on one who has no mercy for others.'

'None of you truly believes until he wishes for his brother what he wishes for himself.'

'He who eats his fill while his neighbor goes without food is not a believer. '

'The truthful and trusty businessman is associated with the prophets the saints, and the martyrs.'

'Powerful is not he who knocks the other down, indeed powerful is he who controls himself in a fit of anger. '

'God does not judge according to your bodies and appearances but He scans your hearts and looks into your deeds.'

'A man walking along a path felt very thirsty. Reaching a well he descended into it, drank his fill and came up. Then he saw a dog with its tongue hanging out, trying to lick up mud to quench its thirst. The man saw that the dog was feeling the same thirst as he had felt so he went down into the well again and filled his shoe with water and gave the dog a drink. God forgave his sins for this action.' The Prophet was asked: 'Messenger of God, are we rewarded for kindness towards animals?' He said, 'There is a reward for kindness to every living thing.'

the war in iraq, while we may have not found those WMD, can you people not see how the war has benefited the region. People are starting to think. Maybe even rebel against the extremist islam (and then turn to semi-extreme islam) or look at what is happening with Lebanon and Syria...not that i except much, there has been a small ripple effect off Iraq.

swimerdude87 -- It has never been our policy to invade countries and start wars to "benefit" a region according to certain standards. Although I would take issue that Iraq is benefitting from our attacks, and perhaps some day they will -- that is not the issue. Since when does "the ends justify the means" been our country's operating philosophy? I do hear arguments like this from the current administration, and, frankly, it scares me.

Reminds me of a cartoon I saw a couple of years ago.

2 little boys are sitting in front of the TV, apparently watching the news, and there is a huge mushroom cloud filling the screen.

One kid turns to the other and says, "Gee, I hope no one ever liberates US!

Now if we can only get rid of all those white Christian terrorists.... I sure hope no Christian church gets built around here, the timing just isn't right for all those who lost loved ones in Oklahoma...

Oh my goodness... the "P.C." is really thick tonight...

Those of us that don't trust Muslims have a reason...

#1... Christians as a group are not killing people just because they are some other religion...
#2... Iraq did have WMD...
#3... Iraq violated 17 UN Resolutions after the end of the Gulf War...What no consequences...?
#4... Iraq is benefiting - hey they had an election and what was the turn out... ? much, much higher than any of our recent elections... and we complain about having to vote... we even open polls at 7 and close them at 8... no excuse not to vote... they voted there inspite of being shot at...
#5... The only extreme Christians I ever hear about are people who have tried to stop abortion... not exactly like the stinking mass murderers of the ilk like some of AlQaida or Hezbolla
#6... There is a lady reporter in Oklahoma city that has written a book that the FBI under the "Clinton Administration" ignored clues that tied Sadaam baby to the bombing...but there was never any follow up...no Clinton blames "hate radio"...
#7....Since 9/11 we have not been attacked because all the Muslim crazies are fighting us there... when ever you here about a "car bomb" its a "suicide/homocide" bomber from outside Iraq...
#8.... If the Saudis and Syrians don't get their actd together - They are next.
#9... and Farley... you would have let the killer of hundreds of thousands of innocent people continue to murder and rape his own people... and sponsor and fund other terrorist groups....? asl long as they had power, water and an open school....?
