She goes and tracks down the department expert. They speak, look over at me, speak again. She comes back and says, "He's never heard of it", and backs away.

The Folsom Lowes has some very knowledgeable people most of the time in the plant section- Forrest is one of them- and there is an older guy as well- They seem to know what they have, when they will get what they dont if it is planned and can even talk plants in detail-
LOL- Farley often also helps out customers looking for things and he tells them what is good and what it not when we are going through there....

Oh- and Lowes service on the aisles is normally great- if you cant find a person- they have the buttons on each aisle to push which normally gets you a knowing person within a few minutes.

Cheers

Another great  day in the adventure of exploration and sight.

I agree mylo.  I am a very social person and really enjoy the give and take with a live check out person.

Furthermore, I am technology challenged, and have often witnessed what you describe.  Many people have to have assistance using the self-check out.

Will there be a day when there is a self-return counter also?  dry.gif

I am just the opposite. The less interaction I have with the people at Home Depot the better! I am sick of them saying to me at the check out when I buy some garden soil... "Oh... gonna do some gardening today?" No crap sherlock! One of these times I get asked this idiotic question... I am gonna say... no... just need some dirt to bury the neighbor I just killed. Just check my crap out... and let me pay so I can be on my way!

I have yet to have a problem at the self-checkout and have used it numerous times. However... I do agree that it does seem that there are quite a few others with issues.

Sine we are talking about checking out (somewhat anyway)... those of you who are told the price by the cashier and then proceed to pull out your checkbook... do you realize everyone in line wants to stab you in the neck? Cuz they do.

If you don't use credit cards and don't have cash, USE A CHECK CARD.

Okay - you owe me a new keyboard. I'm never going to get the beer out of it.

Yeah - at Home Depot it's a tossup as to whether the people or the computer have better "people skills".

Here's my question:

Folsom Home Depot, why in the heck did you build your parking lot on an incline?

Alas, in my experience, this is strictly the domain of women, at the supermarket.

They go into the supermarket knowing that they are going to have to pay for something, yet are unprepared to do so. They watch as everything gets scanned, wait for the total, THEN open the purse, and start pulling crap out, looking for their check book. Of course, after writing the check, they stand there and reassemble the purse, while you wait.

By the way, to those who DO use check cards, you don't have to wait for the total to scan it! Scan it right away. It works every time.

And another thing. ATM's! They've been around for about 30 years. Why do so many stare blankly at them, like it's their very first time? Don't you know I'm in a hurry!

Okay, I'll admit it, those ATM's can be tricky. Each one seems designed by a different company, and no two want to swipe your card the same way. They put the enter button here there up down. Gotta keep ya guessin'.

And what's with the card readers at the gas pump? Remove card quickly? What the heck is that about? Why do I have to yank it so fast? Who designed that feature? What's it for? "Sorry, you didn't yank out your card fast enough. Please try again." It was probably a bug that the inventor couldn't figure out, so they just ran with it.

Okay, that's enough, don't you think?

I've had two local "incidents" with businesses lately.......not Home Depot, but related to this topic anyway of bad service.

The first took place at Wal-Mart.......the other day, I asked a person that was stocking the back to school supplies....."Excuse me, do you happen to know if you have the big thick pencils for pre-schoolers?" She said "if we do, they will probably be along one of these aisles with the school supplies" and went back to work!!!! I thought.......well duh!!!!!! I had gotten that far by myself!!!!!!! Arghh!!!!!

The other was at Mervyn's. I was returning some (unopened) underwear I'd bought for my little boy because I needed one size larger (a mis-read label on my part). Same item, same price, different size. The lady says I owe her money. I was like "How's that? Does the price go up with the size?" (I checked the packaging to make sure they said the same price). She said, well, you bought these ones you are returning yesterday on our sale........today they are not on sale so you owe us some money. I said "We can't just do a simple exchange here......the items are EXACTLY the same, just a different size." She had to go get a "higher up" to help her out. Even that lady said they'd have to "override" the system to make the values the same for me (like it was a chore) cuz today, the sale was not on................HELLLLLLLLLOOOOO????!!!! How was this that difficult to figure out? Finally they did the override of the system so I could take my merchandise and go. Double Arghhhhh!!

How about those ATM's that you have to hit the ok button about five times? Then the cashier even has to ask you if its ok. Yes its ok just let me get out of here!

This comes a couple years late for me, but Home Depot's new CEO not only has finally realized that their astoundlingly poor customer service is causing customers to leave and never come back, but he has even issued an apology:

The most painful part of shopping at HD for me is getting checked out. Their self checkout process is always a mess and they typically only have one person running a checkout counter for the entire store. HD is last on my list as well. I prefer Lowe's and OSH over HD. Not to mention I can't stand Tony Stewart. thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif

Wow, I usually get whatever help I need at Home Depot. The guys from the tools rental department even cut 2 tiles for me so that I didnt have to rent a machine. When the third party contractor mis-measured the height of my double door, I managed to get a replacement door. And I could go on.

And I actually usually prefer HD over Lowes. I find stuff faster there.

Maybe I spend way too much time (and money) in those stores :-)

I used to go to Lowe's first until the third time they were out of or didn't carry something I needed. I've now started going back to HD first to save time.
