As to the visual appeal of palm trees, yes, they are very beautiful, but they are pretty high maintenance goes as far as landscape trees go. The fronds need trimming on a regular basis to prevent breakage and look tidy, and this trimming usually requires a cherry picker to get high enough to trim. The fronds can cause damage and injuries when they decide to fall - they're HEAVY. Further they don't have the qualities typically desired for street landscaping - they don't provide shading or protection from weather, they aren't compatible with a lot of other plantings because of different watering needs, and they don't provide as much habitat for other wildlife (squirrels, birds, etc).

Dave and Busters is a game arcade? It will definitely not do well anymore. Matt is right.

When I moved to Folsom in 1992 the big sign out beside hwy. # 50 said a "High Fashion" mall was coming to Folsom.

I heard later that it would have stores like Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman-Marcus, Bloomingdalae's, etc. etc. etc.

That would be very nice and the icing on the cake for Folsom, even though probably out of my price range!

Why can't we stick with native vegetation instead of importing palm trees and sycamores!? We allow development to tear down the old, established oaks and then replace them with non-native junk plants!!

Here is the website:

http://www.daveandbusters.com/

It has video and other games, plus a bar and restaurant. It is adult-oriented like a Chuck-E-Cheese for grown ups. A good place to go with coworkers after work and for "team-building" etc.. Very unusual and fun place.

Century Folsom sucks!!!! To put it blunt the seats are bad bad bad. They need to do an upgrade there, but they won't do it until we get another theater here in town. Everyone will go to the new one and then Century will upgrade.

Wasn't the mall development supposed to break ground in 2004? It sounds like it's now pushed out to 2005. Anyone know when we'll see the beginning of construction? Our son loves those earth movers.... biggrin.gif

The last I heard they will break ground at the end of next year and the initial phase might open by 2007.

My sentiments, exactly. I CAN'T STAND big palm trees in areas where they would never naturally occur. What would be so bad about incorporating some of Northern California's beautiful oaks into some of the plans around here? This is not San Diego, Hawaii, or Palm Springs and IMO palm treej just plain look out of place here.

It sounds like I may be the only one here who is not excited about this new mall & highrise condo project. Considering how many people on these boards are continually fighting to try to keep the "small town charm" of Folsom intact, I'm surprised that so many are so quick to drop that principle as soon as the opportunity to spend money at a mall presents itself. Personally, I fear that we're moving more and more toward a Roseville type of city and further away from the historic, small town feel of Folsom.
