any use of Privot bushes or trees,

Cheers
Ken

Has anybody ever voluntarilly planted a Privot tree? They just keep popping up and I keep cutting them. I used to call them "bird poop trees" (I figure that must be how the seeds spread) until I found out they have a name.

Oh - sorry. Off topic.

I think our recycling cans should be transparent. That way, after they're emptied, they won't be so obvious and will blend in with your house color. And when they're full the collectors can take a quick look to see if you're following the recycling guidelines correctly whistle.gif

or instead of all this whining about it, we can all just approach our neighbors and ask them to properly store their trash cans.
but then I forget, whining is what this forum is about much of the time.

How about someone pass an ordinance telling us how we are each required to be scrutinized by the neighborhood and told how we can and can not use our private property....

Solution:
1 - Move to a neighborhood where they have a HOA and they will enforce cars parked out front, boat storage, garbage cans...ect.

2 - For the rest of the neighborhoods.....keep the city out of acting like an HOA.

I like these solutions. I'm the one thinking about moving to Folsom and didn't want to move into a subdivision with an HOA due to issues like these. I thought other Folsom neighborhoods would give me more personal freedoms to use my private property as I see fit. However, I should probably think harder about any possible move out to Folsom if the residents want the city to take on the role of a HOA.

In addition, people produce garbage. It's a fact of life and clean, neatly kept garbage cans don't really offend my senses. On older, historic lots the only other option beside placing them where they can be seen from the front may be in a small backyard. Then in the summers their backyards would stink and the property owners may not be able to use their backyards. All because some resident in a different neighborhood think that visable garbage cans are improper.

How about trash-can silos on scissor jacks? Concrete-lined, of course.

You can play, dine, and grow petunias on it during the day with it securely out of sight and out of mind. A conveyer belt transports your refuse and recyclables from an undisclosed kitchen location to the underground bunker.

When the garbage truck day approaches, you arm the silo and launch the garbage cans to the sidewalk with an attached tether. Once the garbage is picked up, a weight sensor in the bottom of the cans triggers the retrieval mechanism that retracts the can to its silo position via the tether.

Coverings come in many colors and styles, including Astroturf, decorative planters, and shrubberies.

Installed for the absolutely low price of $199,999.95.

I hope you hide your cans as well as you do your face. My neighbors would probably give the same protests we've heard here . . . the city mandates the cans, and they have to go somewhere so why not out in front. My biggest peeve is those who leave them sitting on the street most of the week.

One solution is to set on fire/melt those trash cans that are left out.

NOT a recommnedation, just a possible solution.

I have to admit that I don't really care if I see them nicely lined up in someone's front-side yard.

Ok I'll address the message -
Of course if something is annoying me about my neighbor I speak to them nicely about it. We actually did discuss this topic at our annual progressive Christmas party. Some on are court are going to conceal them from now on. However, there are a large percentage (like 30-50%) in my larger neighborhood who do not conceal their garbage cans from view of the street. So I would need to do a campaign, which of course labels me the neighborhood bi*ch.

Frankly, I would rather the city have that reputation than me. After all, as you can see from the postings, it's kind of a matter of opinion whether or not the cans on any particularly property could be considered 'blight', but I think most everyone would agree that an entire neighborhood of cans, even neatly lined up in front of the gates, would constitute blight.

There are certain things you can talk to your neighbors about but somethings are subjective and personal. I would assume that my neighbors think that exposed cans are 'ok' or they wouldn't be doing it. If it came down to a dispute with my neighbor or me having to look at their grey, blue and black cans, I would just get used to it rather than risk the relationship.

I think our new cans are right pretty and showcase how our city takes care of us...as long as folks don't leave them on the street.

Question: If I want to get rid of the blue recycling can, where do I take it? A recycling center or the dump?

Since it is a plastic container, I think you cut it up into tiny pieces and put it in your neighbor's recycling can. You can pick from the many that leave them sitting out. Melting it down works, too. Just let it cool off first.

I don't really have a problem with them on the side of the house. If they must be in front, it would be good-neighbor-like to at least have them neatly sitting there and maybe try to cover them if possible (as suggested by others). I just hate the ones that are stacked in the front in a "thrown there" manner with one lid open and another can laying on its side.

The ones that leave them in the street are obvious targets of heavy blunt objects. What cracks me up is that I have one neighbor that STILL puts out ALL THREE CANS each week! Get a freakin' clue, people! Hilarious! lmaosmiley.gif

Ditto that. Let's remember the benefit by having three cans -- RECYCLING! Geez, you'd think the cans were the ugliest thing around and causing a blight on our neigborhoods. What's next??? Folks will start complaining about light rail, rednecks, the homeless, and mosques -- wait, I'll retract that -- been there, done that tongue.gif

Is there a problem with just using it?????????? Everybody generates recyclables.
