For all of those who oppose the spending of $4.1 million dollars for the construction of a City Gym and yearly maintenance costs that could easily exceed $600,000 let's express our opposition to the City Gym. Service Levels provided by the City Police in response to emergency calls are still in excess of 7 minutes and yet the City is determined to use funds to construct a Gym.
Here's the Email addresses to the City Council
Steve Miklos themayor@folsom.ca.us
Eric King eric@ericking.org
Kerri Howell corrprincess@ardennet.com
Andy Morin andy@themorins.com
Jeff Starsky jstarsky@folsom.ca.us
I am gathering Email messages to present to the City Council. If you are opposed to the construction of the City Gym please send me an Email or letter of opposition with your full name and address.

We pay taxes for services that we ALL use like roads, bridges, police, defense, etc.
That money should be put to better use. If they can't find a better use for the money, they should be returning it to the taxpayer.

BUT-----FOLSOM STILL DOES NOT HAVE AN ADEQUATE LIBRARY AFTER 11 YEARS!!
Should a public gym come before that?
A library serves ALL Folsom residents and many in surrounding communities. However,----Roseville already has two beautiful libraries and El Dorado Hills is getting a 2nd one in a much smaller community!
I do not understand the priorities of some people.
One of the candidates running for CC says the first thing he will do is cancel the library!

They're never going to give taxes back/reduce taxes as long as residents keep supporting wasteful expenditures.
I can see it now, they build the gym and its free for the first few years, then they start taxing us some more because wages for those that work in the gym rise, and the gym ages, needs renovation, more taxes, and so on and so on.... it just doesn't end. We need a bridge! More taxes.
At some point we have to say, STOP! - What the heck are you doing with the taxes that are coming in? Do what the rest of us do when you want to build something - that is, put money aside for it from existing income.
Boy, I wish I could just go to my boss every month and say, hey boss, I need a new car so you need to give me a raise; now I need to renovate my kitchen, another raise please, and so on.

I agree that there are things to be done around Folsom and I realize it all takes money. And I agree with most everyone that taxes are too high but if we do have things to keep our young ones busy, then they are less likely to do drugs and stay out of trouble. So I think the gym is one of those things that will benefit Folsom.

I'm sure a room full of computers would keep kids off the streets.
How about a room full of video games?
Maybe a city sponsored dance club?
I can probably think of a hundred things that would keep kids off the street. That doesn't mean I want government funding them.

Well lets see...
I can afford a computer ....
I can afford some video games.....
I can't afford to build a gym.

So government now revolves around what you can or can't afford? There are families that can't afford a computer or video games. What of them?
Anyway, that's not the point. The point is why stop at a gym? You probably can't afford to build a dance club for kids either and that too would keep them off the streets.
BTW, If you can afford a computer and video games, you can afford a membership to a gym.
