Anyone see the new colorful bright orange house on Halidon? About 4-5 houses down from the racquetball club.

I drove by and slowed down in disbelief. This thing is being painted one bright orange/yellow.
And when I came to a stop, there were a group of other home owners grouped up on the otherside of the street sharing (i believe) the same thought...."What the heck are they thinking!?!?!" I looked at the house then at them, they started laughing and then one of them jestured a 2 thumbs down.

I'll need to check with the city to see how they got the Purple home owners to repaint their home.
...here we go again thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif

I just drove down Halidon today on my way to Broadstone Racquet Club. After reading
this post, I was on the lookout for a brightly painted house. The only house I think is the
one talked about was painted a pale yellow. There was a man painting the shutters white,
so I think this is the house. I thought the house looked beautiful.

It sounds pretty, and I don't think that combination could offend anyone. They probably thought they had a color they liked, but paint on walls looks a lot different than paint on chips. Always best to buy a quart and put some on the wall to see what the paint "really" looks like.

Hi Sat,
I updated the status on this house on Post #25.

I agree, The "new" color is actually pretty nice. But this was Not the original color of the house a few days ago.
The original color was pretty darn close to Farley's Soup Bowl.

Regardless how it started, We are all glad the owner did change the color.
Thx

Actually, "oi" isn't French, either. "Oui" means "yes" in French... while "oi" isn't a word at all. smile.gif

Unless you're in England, then its slang for "hey" or 'hey you!'

Slippery slope there, fella. In this free country, a neighborhood's desire is secondary to the rights of the person who owns the place. While I don't know that I'd want a neighbor to paint his house purple, I have to respect his right to do so, if he is not violating any agreed upon terms, such as CC&Rs.

I wouldn't want my neighbor trashihng hiw own property, neglecting it, or otherwise making the neighborhood less attractive, but if he is within the law, not much we can do about it.

Have any of you read 'The Big Orange Splot'? It's a great kid's book, but can teach us all a lesson about tolerance, individuality and freedom.

When a seagull drops a can of bright orange paint on his neat house, Mr. Plumbean gets an idea that affects his entire neighborhood. One by one, his neighbors visit him to try to convince him to paint his house back a normal color. But one by one, their houses are transformed into the houses of their dreams - castles, Taj Mahal, hot air balloons...

Hi,
Yeah...I know this is two years late or so...but what an amusing discussion. I had to add that I'm almost positive that I was in on a discussion with the homeowner's neighbor at a party the week this all happened. I guess the owners were mortified at how bright it was...and repainted it soon after. At least that's how I remembered the story. I just thought it was funny that it caused all this hullaballoo (sp) when they might have agreed. Ahh, life in community. PLUS...that's probably the reason that the designer person found it bland. Now it's a blending tone of golden yellow. Personally, I think it looks GREAT...but also wonder if I haven't gotten caught up in the culture of conformity when I allow colors like the purple (or that redwood fence color in Essex that got repainted) to really get to me...and they do. It makes me question my values...which is good, I guess.
D
