While the Galleria may "suck" as you say, that is not Palladio's competition-The Fountains is.

Have either of you been to the Fountains?

It was what we were told Palladio was going to be.

It's not.

Not even close.

I finally went there to see why people raved about it.  I get it now.  It is pretty darn nice.

Been to Fountains, and it is nice. However, it's not such a WOW! that I would drive to Roseville. You still have to deal with Roseville traffic and that whole intersection of Galleria/ Roseville Pkwy... um, no thanks!

I think the difference is that you can actually walk to a number of different stores at Fountains pretty easily and that central parkway makes it pleasant, plus there are lots of outdoor cafes, etc.  but, I agree, I don't shop there.

Both Palladio and EDH have too much parking on the main drag to match the nice experience of the Fountains.

If the Palladio was supposed to be the equivalent to the Fountains they missed the mark. As it is now there's nothing there worth going to other then an occasional movie and the bland warehouse aesthetic design of the mall discourages hanging around to browse.

It's not really fair to judge Palladio in its current state. Keep in mind that Palladio is still mostly empty. Chains and larger corporation owned shops that can survive the early stages of opening a new shopping area are what you tend to see at first. Besides being well-known names that draw people in, they can usually suffer low traffic in the short-term to get a good long term deal (favorable lease terms just to start filling the place up and very generous build-out budgets). Smaller mom & pop shops can't really survive until the place is filled enough to have more foot traffic. Prior to the economy downturn, I believe this would have happened pretty quickly. Now it seems to be a very slow process.

Once it fills up more, I think it will attract better shops. Think about it. If you were opening your own personally run place, would you do it in a near ghost town or Fountains?

I don't know, I kind of like the vastness of Palladio - it makes for nice strolls away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of Folsom, while still allowing for some people watching and a stop for a yogurt or whatever.  I don't go there to shop, however, which kind of defeats the purpose.  Then again, I'm a man.

They do have concerts Wed night in summer, which are well-attended.  Whole Foods seems to be a happening spot, and the movie theater seems to be doing well, too.  I can't speak to the retail shop situation.

I originally wanted to see cafes and so forth, but we got what we got, and I won't throw a fit.

The Fountains opened with a bang. I am at Sutter Roseville every week and have been for 5 years. The Fountains started with great shops and eateries and still have them.

Folsom Palladio- totally dropped the ball.

They had Placerville, Cameron Park, El Dorado Hills, Folsom, and Gold River/Rancho to draw from, but they drew it out waaaaaaay to long (12 years-no joke).

They started building the Palladio BEFORE the Galleria and Fountains were even a thought!

Hell- they REBUILT most of the Galleria before the Palladio was open.

Inexcusable in my mind. They could have opened in 2000-01 and rode the huge economic wave through 2008.

They.Dropped.The. Ball.

Sadly, Folsom loses, because my tax dollars go to Roseville............

I rarely go to the Galleria, maybe every quarter. But I go to the Fountains pretty close to weekly. I meet friends over there for coffee, lunch, strolling and sometimes shopping. I like the open air blvd with the center fountains & fire pit. it's a very relaxing atmosphere, and easy to sit for hours at a restaurant, or in a shady area. There's no comparable place at the Palladio to hang out.

The Palladio central plaza area is surrounded by buildings on 2 sides and I don't get that fresh open air feeling....at all. I was over there last Wednesday before the band started, and was somewhat appalled at the set up. I realize that people listen to the music, but I sure wouldn't want to be stuck looking at a big pole. I like to listen AND watch the show. IMO, it's really poor planning. I find the Palladio to be sterile. I go to WF and make a drive through weekly just to see what's new. Some of the stores haven't even bothered posting their hours. I visited one store in particular 4 times at various times of the day, and different days only to find it closed every single time. I finally had to resort to calling in advance. They suggested I come on a Wednesday. yea right, when there isn't any parking close by. I had been avoiding that, but it turned out to be the only time they were actually open!! They were closing in the evening and on the weekend if there were no customers. I understand, but, really, maybe they could keep minimal hours and post them. Maybe...

the Fountains has parking on the downtown drag too, but the overflow parking doesn't "seem" to be as far away as the Palladio or Town Center. I think it's just the design. its more user friendly. IMO, the Fountains have a better all around layout. I was at Town Center last Thursday, what a mob scene. I was meeting tired out of town friends, and we actually came back to Folsom for dinner because none of us wanted to deal with the crowds, parking or waits.

I must say, you are all making The Fountains sound pretty good.  Maybe I'll actually take the trouble some time to drive there and check it out again (I was there only once before, having been dragged along).

One place I've been to that really worked was The Spectrum in Irvine, if any of you know that one.

I understand what you are saying but the last time I went to the fountains with all the cars and parking all over, I did not get that fresh air feeling, I felt more like I was overwhelmed by the sheer number of cars and people and smog, and I had a difficult time finding available parking (as I seem to always have when I'm anywhere in Roseville).  Maybe you're going at a better time then when I went? The one or two times every year or so that I do go to Roseville, I go during the day to try and avoid big crowds (never seems to work though).

I do agree with you about palladio, it feels like a bunch of big empty bldgs with streets that are like a ghost town most of the time.  However the parking is super easy and there are few crowds so I like it...but I'm not a big shopper so I don't mind that there are no shops I care for there. I just go for the restaurants and movie theater.

I go on Saturdays, sometimes early (like 10 am), and sometimes just after noon. There can be a lot of cars, but I always find a close parking spot, and no, I'm not going to tell you were. :) And at least you can feel a breeze at the Fountains, quite unlike walking along the shadeless avenues at the Palladio. I think the building walls intensify the heat...like walking in a desert canyon.

I'm not a fan of crowds either. But even though the parking lots are full, it is never that crowded in the shops I go to. I think the restaurants attract the most people. And I have been known to walk in & immediately walk out of a store if it's too crowded. I have had to wait at the Yard House, but once inside it's really not that bad. The patio is nice. It is noisy due to the building itself, and so, I'm not a fan of those types of buildings. And I eat outside as much as possible. Even in the 100+ weather, in the shade...although, the day I did that at the Fountains was almost too much. Most of the restaurants at the Fountains have patio seating, facing the center treelined blvd. I think that is somewhat true at the Palladio, but facing a street.

What's up with the stench in Kirklands? I'd love to shop there, but I can't stand the potpourri. It makes me ill. There's very few (shopping) stores I actually go to now at the Palladio. :(
