Wow! So much ado about nothing. I could never figure out why Americans are so prudish when it comes to sex.

To start, Sutter is not kid friendly. There are several shops that I already wont let my children in because the content is inappropriate (glass and other breakables). The shops I do take them in require me to hold their hands while we shop (now that's fun!).

As far as "what do we tell our children?", you tell them that the store is inappropriate for children. What's so hard about that? Why do you want to avoid that conversation? You should all be talking to you children about sex if you want them to grow up to be responsible, healthy, sexual beings. I really don't see the problem there. I have to tell my children all the time that they can't go into a store at the Galleria Mall even though it appears to have toys and other fun stuff in it. They have t-shirts and other items that contain sexually explicit and other wise bad language. What do I tell them? The truth! The difference is that this store has no sign warning of its contents. It is my understanding that the lingerie shop will.

I also take offense to the comment about "other seedy elements such as tattoo parlors". I have three beautiful tattoos and in no way would consider myself seedy! I got my last tatoo here in Folsom at a place that the city folk tried to keep from opening as well. They had most of the same complaints about it some how corrupting our youth and bringing a bad element to Folsom even though there was already a bar right next door! The tattoo parlor has taken precautions to be responsible with their craft and does not allow children in the store and will not tattoo anyone who has been drinking or obviously using drugs. I also have it on good autority that eventually the city warmed up to the idea and even hired one of the artists to do face painting at the grand opening of the aquatic center!

Steve is right. There are much bigger concerns we should be rallying against!

Just my two cents! Aren't you glad I am moving to Memphis! One less "liberal" to contend with!  tongue.gif

Folsom Ink. It is on Natoma St.

Big Frank was my artist. He was quite pleasant and the parlor was very clean. I am thrilled with the quality of color and amazed at how much the art has advanced since my last tattoo 12 years ago!

I agree with Adamal, Orange and Steve.  Wasn't there a poll on this already and showed the majority had not problem with it?

Why? People seem to still want to discuss it. If you don't nobody's forcing you to keep opening the thread, are they? whistle.gif

I don't think people want to post but it kills them because they're still curious about what people are saying. I can't believe it's still going on. I wouldn't mind the thread dying but it won't. It'll continue on after the shop is open too. All this over a single shop. Wow!

The upshot of all of this is that zoning prevents them from selling dildos, or is it dildoes?

The can sell anything else they want, as long as it doesn't look like an organ used for sexual pleasure.

They can even sell things they never intended to, but were wrongly accused of selling.

I wish them the best of luck. They seem like nice folks.

I did go to the city council meeting last night. When this subject came up, the stores lawyer got up and basically made a fool of himself. He told the city council what he was going to do if the city agreed with him or not. He did not get away with it however.

Of all the people that got up to talk about this subject; about 5 were for the store and 2 groups and around 20 others were against it.

Their lawyer thinks that he had a license to open. The city says they do not have a business license so they can not open until they have a fire inspection and get a business license.

However, they said they were already open???

When I talked, I mentioned that if they did not have a license then they should not be able to operate until they do.

The owners said they are going to have the ribbon cutting ceremony on 4 Nov.

The grand opening on the 6th of Nov.

They said the back room would have a swinging door with a curtain behind that so no one could look in. There will be a sign posted that no one under 18 can go inside that room.

They will also have a monitor in the front of the store so they can monitor what is going on in the back room.

The person that spoke in front of me asked if they were going to have a cash register in the back to pay for things, or bring them out into the front to pay for them.

There was a lot more talked about. Watch it on Metro Cable channel 14 on comcast. Thursday and Friday at 9:00 AM.

Anyone else that went to the meeting please chime in.....

It looks like not much has changed.

"Their lawyer thinks that he had a license to open. The city says they do not have a business license so they can not open until they have a fire inspection and get a business license."

According to the owners, and they have it on display, they were given a temporary license, and told they could use that until the official one was procesed and typed up. That's what they've been using.

"However, they said they were already open???'

Yes, because the city gave them a temporary license, they have been making a few sales while they get the store ready to open.

"They said the back room would have a swinging door with a curtain behind that so no one could look in. There will be a sign posted that no one under 18 can go inside that room."

They've said that all along, every day. Nothing new there.

"They will also have a monitor in the front of the store so they can monitor what is going on in the back room."

That was installed weeks ago.

"The person that spoke in front of me asked if they were going to have a cash register in the back to pay for things, or bring them out into the front to pay for them."

That would be impractical, but I don't think it's an issue for 3 reasons

1) They aren't going to sell things that resemble sex organs
2) They can have baskets for people to put the stuff in
3) Most who are opposed to that sort of thing wouldn't be caught dead in the place.

They don't have a back room to keep out the "people who are opposed to it." The back room is to keep the XXX stuff away from kids. Kids, as mentioned at the meeting, will open the door and enter anyway, unless there is some level of in-store monitoring, ID carding, and security.

Tess

My comment wasn't about the reason for the back room, it was the reason why it's silly to expect them to set up a cash register in the back room.

If the place is as bad you think it will be, you aren't likely to bring your kids in, so it doesn't matter if a customer is waiving the product over their head. You won't be there to see it.

Still, I was just funnin' ya. Sorta.

And even with monitoring they may see it as well. Guess what it is the parents responsibility to keep an eye on their kids.

On a side note do you really think if a kid sees what is behind the door they will be scar'd for life?
