Yep, my kids won't be anywhere near that store. That's part of my point. Sutter Street will become even less of a family place, despite street fairs, etc.

How would I know if my kids would be scarred for life if they saw the backroom items?? The owners won't be forthcoming about what exactly that inventory includes. I'm not into experimenting to see what will and will not scar my kids for life. That's gambling with kids' lives, and I prefer to minimize that -- you know, do it only rarely.

And Democrats in particular have a history of facilitating this obstructionism in exchange for campaign donations and votes." . . .Amanda Ripley re "Waiting for Superman" movie.

I am as concerned as any parent, some say even moreso, and have accused me of being 'over protective', whatever that means.

If the kids won't be anywhere near that store, why do you care what people are purchasing out of the back room? We already know it won't be porn, and it won't be anything resembling sex organs.

Interesting that you say 'Sutter Street will become even less of a family place', because one of the arguments against Ms. Teaz was that it would ruin the 'family atmosphere' of the street that was 'lined with ice cream shops and doll houses'.
That's simply not true.

I would feel better about taking my kids to Sutter Street if there were half a dozen lingerie shops than half a dozen bars.

Last year, my daughter and her friends wanted me to drop them off on Sutter. I asked, 'what are you going to do down there? There's nothing for kids to do'.

In the end, the controversy will die down, life will go on, and Ms. Teaz will succeed or fail depending on whether or not people buy their stuff.

If there's nothing new to contribute (and now that the city hall meeting is over, I'd suggest we're there), then this thread can/should die.

Sutter is great for kids!
Sutter is not for kids!
They will have porn!
They won't have porn!
It's good for old Folsom!
It's bad for old Folsom!
You can get porn elsewhere!
I need more places to get porn!
But there's not going to be any porn there!
There's going to be porn-like stuff there!
It's only in the back and it needs to be secured!
There's no porn there so security is moot!
They don't have a business license yet!
They have a temp business license!

Did I get everything?

As a kid I saw many things that I probably should not have. However nothing that I've ever seen has scarred me. I honestly doubt anything in the backroom will scar a child.

Once again why would anyone have his or her child unmonitored in a place like that? I know I wouldn't.

I think you missed the "hardcore" vs. "softcore" argument.

Leather is okay, for clothes
but not whips
but whips are used by everyone
so they're okay too
but they won't be there

I am curious to all the advocates who are for this shop. Do you just oppose regulations like this? Do you think it will bleed life into old town? Or do you guys use porn and dildos regularly and want quick access to them? ........ I don't think that belongs on Sutter. Sutter was one of the draws we moved here.....

First off from what I gather Mrs. Teaz will not sell anything that you are talking about. As far as sex toys, they are usually used to spice things up. Sex is supposed to be enjoyable and fun. There is nothing wrong with making it a little more interesting every once in a while. I don't need Viagra or any other stimulant to get it up but I do like a little variety.

As far as the porn comments I rarely watch it and when I do its more curiosity than anything else. However I have no problem with others viewing it that is their own business.

Once again Mrs. Teaz is not selling that stuff, so lets start hearing some arguments that actually attack what they are selling eh... If you want porn walk a block to any liquor store, you'll find everything you need there.

Then I guess I don't understand why it has to be in a back room behind a swivel door and a curtain and why you would have to be over 18 if the stuff they are selling is so harmless.

Saul,
I think I find your post more offensive than the store. Your sexually explicit imagery would be more appropriate behind the swinging door and curtain!

What I don't get is if you are so opposed to the content and placement of this store then why post in a manner that would make any smut magazine proud?

Thank you NRB. I was just communicating with another moderator about Saul's post. We are in agreement that there is no need to use such crude and offensive language.

I apologize if you guys can't handle the truth. I'm just keeping it real. What do you think goes on in those films? Why do you think so many are offended with a smut store on Sutter? Next time I'll check my thesaurus and use biological terms such as ejaculate rather than bust a nut. I apologize if I offended any one. Please feel free to delete the truth and all my posts.
