Then I guess I don't understand why it has to be in a back room behind a swivel door and a curtain and why you would have to be over 18 if the stuff they are selling is so harmless.

Sex games and gag gifts is what’s going to be back there. Please read stevethedad's post to get a better explanation.

Yep, need to remove NRB's examples so that everyone will be mystified about what offensive language was removed. Since it's repeated in the thread, I still know exactly what you all are talking about.

Steve: I know you've been to Thursday night markets -- seen you there. I assume you've also been to other fairs (Folsom Live? Christmas thingy? Craft Fairs? Sunday Farmer's Market?). Those, along with places like Snooks, the Folsom History Museum, and yes, even the restaraunts y'all choose to call bars, are fine places for families with kids to visit. Why taint it with smut? (I used "smut" to avoid the arguments about the definition of "porn," and I am referring to the definition of smut that describes a smudge made from soot or dirt because that's the way I view this shop.)
"Sometimes on purpose and sometimes by accident, teachers' unions have a long history of working against the interests of children in the name of job security for adults. And Democrats in particular have a history of facilitating this obstructionism in exchange for campaign donations and votes." . . .Amanda Ripley re "Waiting for Superman" movie.

Based on this statement can I assume that you believe that Fredericks of Hollywood and Victoria's Secret taint our Malls, which is just teeming with kids?

Smut ? You have got to be kidding. what kind of right wing fundamental christians with bush in their mind and no tolerance of anything outside the church do we have in this fair city.
You and your kind that have this kind of view of the world should first get off your pulpit and see where most of the poplulation of Folsom, including the City that sanctioned this business with their best wishes in the past are really at .

Dirty is a frame of mind and in all studies to date it not a healthy one.

This establishment does not cross any barriers of modern decency that I have seen as of yet.
But there will always be those that Chose to hide in the closet and suggest so -

I would think the fact I am gay is a far worse offense to most that think like you.

I am not troubled by your gayness even one iota. You need not judge me personally and categorize me and "most that think like [me]."

I cannot judge you "personally" as I know you not. I do judge your words though and have every right to do so.

This estabilshment should be allowed to operate as permitted in its request and obtainment of its license and I would expect that once it gets going that it will be but a footnote to all that oppose it.
I would even put money that some of those that are most adamant at its opening will have one or more family members go in a see.
Heck - if my ex-wife would have gone there - maybe I wouldnt be where I am

Thanks! I think we are now clean of all Saul's smutty quotes.

NRB: I'm sure you don't mind that I edited your post.

Man! I leave you kids alone for 2 hours, and look what happens!

Sorry I missed the fireworks. I'll just have to guess at what Saul said.

Tess, smut is in the eye of the beholder. I don't think of that stuff as smut. Many of our kids, believe it or not, have seen worse in movies, HBO, and the internet, despite our best efforts. They can go to the library, even the school library, and look at porn. Many classrooms have internet access.

When I walk down Sutter Street with my family, I will not be ashamed, embarrassed, disgusted or disturbed by Ms. Teaz. They won't be selling porn (remember?) and any of the things that would be deemed offensive will not be in the window. What they currently have is a couple of dresses and a sign.

If I had a kid ask me about the store, I'd say, "They sell grown up stuff that isn't for kids", which is pretty much the same thing I'd say about the antique stores and bars. My kids can't go into bars, and they have no interest in the antique stores, and several of the merchants frown on kids coming in anyway.

Saul, the reason some of the stuff has to go in the back room is that it is inappropriate. It isn't evil, just not appropriate for kids.

Just a side note...when I was in high school a friend and I walked into one of the bars. We thought maybe we could get food or something. They were so rude and just pointed to the door. They didn't even say anything and just gave us a look and pointed. It was the bar just to the right as you're driving into Folsom. I have no idea what the name is but it's just right off Riley to the right. I have never been there since!! It seems like the bars aren't that great.

Another side note...last Halloween some friends and my husband and I went to the Powerhouse Pub. We thought it would be fun....there were middle-aged hill folks there. The type of people there were so gross that we left. Another reason Sutter St needs updating. See I've tried to make it fun. It hasn't been easy!
