Or the Koran!
Or the Talmud!

we're all limited by the fact that those words have been written and re-written by man for centuries, with all his bias and historical context.

I agree this is an insightful comment, but it is worth noting that fundamentalists of all stripes would call this blasphemy.

As for the history of Biblical translations leading up to an English translation, here is an interesting timeline:

Hmm, it seems to me that we have this small little thing in our country called Freedom of Religion. Personally, I was born and raised an agnostic WASP. Going to Folsom high school, the only thing I saw were families that enjoyed living in this country, and I made numerous friends that would no doubt love to attend a mosque if it existed in Folsom.

Associating a mosque with terrorism is not a positive or realistic ideal. If one Catholic Church priest molests a boy does that mean all Catholic Church priests are child molestors? No. People need to get off their moral high horse and realize, that in the end, we all do not believe the same thing. Everyone group and every family has a different idea of morals. As long as one way of life does not invade another way of life in a negative way here in Folsom, then we must live and let live.

I say build a mosque and let people worship what they like. IF you don't want a mosque, then too bad, Im sure there are plenty of atheists that would not want a Church because they believe it brings out bad "morals" in people.

You're in the wrong place. Obviously if you're not a God fearing Christian you don't belong in Folsom.

Thank you for your voice of reason, insight and fairness. Obviously you have had some exposure to people of the Muslim faith and are able to base your opinion on experience not fear. Indeed our country's very foundation is based on freedom of religon. People have a right to their beliefs as long as laws are not broken. Your post is a refreshing balance to the sad misunderstanding and stereotyping happening here.

Notwithstanding concerns that some of us may have, today we should all be in mourning for the Muslims of the world who are peaceful and caring. Yesterday, there were 3 coordinated suicide bombings at hotels in Jordan, one of which victimized a Muslim wedding party. I read this morning that the bride and groom both lost their fathers in the attack, as well as many other friends and family.

So very shocking and sad.

...which are the vast majority.

Unfortunately, these criminals that perpetrate their violence in the name of their faith are continously referred to as Islamists and "Muslim terrorists". The only people who benefit from this labeling are the terrorists themselves. These barbarians use the label of Muslims/Islamists to try and win support of the Muslim majority (us. vs. them mentality)

When looking at atrocities that occur in our own country (high school shootings, attacks at the workplace, bombing of government buildings, ect.) does anyone label these maniacs Christians?

Because these criminals come from countries where the predominant religon is Islam does not make Islam the source of their lunacy any more than we can blame our society's crime rate on Christians. Blame the socio/economic/political climate for these horrific problems, not a faith that upholds peace, justice and the rule of law as its creed.
