Also, both times that the superintendent and CFO heard that they received big raises last year, they both nodded that they did not. I’m confused. Did they or didn’t they receive either a raise or an increased salary amount compared to their predecessors? Doesn’t really matter, but no one can tell what is going on.

Is it true the district spent over a million dollars to recruit speech pathologist overseas, I heard something like that or was it the district is paying 1.3 million to pay for counselors they cannot normally attract with the wages that are currently present.

I can tell you some of the information:

The superintendent package was increased BEFORE he came on the job. He earns 182k (I think the former superintendent got 150k). The total benefits package comes to 213k approx. included in that pkg is 4800 for a car allowance and 300k life insurance.

The asst. super makes more because they changed her title; therefore, the appx. 40,000k was the pay for the position. Technically, they didn't get "raises". Their positions/titles were given new salaries, and they just "changed" jobs, a great trick for hiding the facts. Kinda like having WMD, going to war, and admitting the error too late.

As for the millions to recruit speech pathologists....I doubt it. If it is true, what a waste of money. It's certainly something that should be addressed.

Couselors are union members and have the same kind of salary scale and benefits as the teachers, support personnel, and program specialists.

Obviously, someone is stretching the facts to fit whatever they want you to think. It's not the union. Fuzzy math is the districts M.O.

If I went to the meeting, do I get a raise too?

How about a cost of living adjustment that doesn't meet the cost of inflation and an increase in of almost $200 a month in health benefits, so you make less that you did last year? It's what the union members are getting. Come on. Be a teacher, and you can live like us.

You mean, I skate by, doing the bare minimum, while the teachers down the hall work their asses off to make the most of their class time and enrich the lives of their students and we'd still get the same raises???

You mean, I can do the bare minimum and get a cost of living raise, unlike my private sector job where I currently get NO cost of living raise, but rather a raise based on how well I do my job, compared to my co-workers? Sign me up!

Oh, wait. No thanks. I actually have a work ethic.
THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING MY GIRL.

Jolene....man o man.. you are so "insensitive"... just because you don't get a COLA doesn't mean squat to the "teachers mob" aka "union"...didn't you get that memo...

You know... since they are more enlightened than you or I... maybe we ought to ask them the question.... "how is it with the increases given to public education, home schoolers out score public school students... especially in those pesky little spelling and geography bees that are held from time to time...?" maybe we should give some moms that do the home schooling a COLA...?

Na... they don't qualify because they haven't passed a CBEST test that is at High School Sophmore grade level in difficulty....you see when you have that "credential"...that is what makes them "qualified"....to teach your little "brat"... I mean "brat" in a nice warm and fuzzy way you know... called my little stinkwads that all the time when they were growing up... of course now they'd call CPS on me....for being "abusive"...

Oh, the jealousy runs rampant. Maybe in two weeks I'll get up early, watch my neighbors go to work, and contemplate my work ethic. No, I'll be spending time with my family. Or, perhaps I'll wait until June and go to lake with the other teachers and put our boats with the towers in the water and cram a summers worth of fun into three days. But wait, I don't need to because I have eight weeks off! Teaching is soooo cool!

I dig ditches.

No wait, I work graveyards as a waitress at Denny's.

No! I'm the head surgical nurse at Kaiser in Roseville.

Actually, I am a claims adjuster for an insurance company.

Oh no... I mean, I'm a secretary.

Wait, wait, wait....

How does it matter? Is it because few jobs can possibly be as noble and as fulfilling as teaching? I actually would agree with you which is why I would argue even MORE for raises based on MERIT and having the ability to trim the fat of teachers who do not hold their own. We are talking about the education of our future here, and few other careers could be as important to have raises based on merit than teaching.

it will be fun it this thing ends up in a strike with picket lines, cars honking horns, folks yelling slogana and police all over. they had one down in fairfield a few years ago that was a real doozey

its good for the kids cause it provides a hands on lesson in worker vs management

Sounds like a better lesson in how to throw a fit and get your way. They are acting so immature that I'm embarrassed for them. I would talk to my boss to get a raise. I would tell them all of the reasons I deserve one. I would never get in their face and yell at them and tell them I would quit if they didn't give me a bigger raise than the one I'm demanding. Why does being part of a union give you the right to be big babies and stomp your feet and yell? Act like the professionals you claim to be. Take a time out and use your words.

Old Soldier - the teachers have already conducted a picket on the corner or Praire City and Iron Point Rd. Quite frankly they were making complete fools of themselves. Sadly I could not think of one positive thing to say to my daughter, a student at the high school, who was in the car and witnessed their behavour that day. I know her opinion of the teachers she saw is serverely diminished. Sad, sad, sad.

Work ethic...lots of names coming to mind, but I digress..."skating by" please...I've been in this district for over 10 years and I don't know of even ONE teacher who I would say is "skating by"

Whatever...

If you don't like the private sector sign up, IN FOLSOM, to be a teacher. Right off the bat you will be the poorest paid teacher in Sac. county. And...even if the COLA is added in, then you are now 6th or 9th depending on whose numbers you look at.

Think...if the waitress or grave digger or surgical nurse next to you was doing the same work and was receiving a better base pay, you would be pissed. Get over it.
