Wow, kudos to the fire department for solving this. I would think these kinds of crimes are difficult to solve.
Interesting.

Awesome. Good job to all agencies involved: Folsom Fire Department, Folsom Police Department, Cal Fire and California State Parks.
THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING MY GIRL.
We could not be doing this without you.
Much love and gratitude.

The fire started in a certain place, and it's likely that the person who did that left the bike trail area by going about 150 yards and out the gate in that neighborhood. A person could be easily seen from many houses in the area, and by other people in that area. The other nearest exit would be to the east and about a half mile away, and would have been towards the direction the fire was moving.

Maybe so, but it is very hard to identify someone based on an eyewitness account. Even if neighbors told the investigators, "I saw some kid who looked about 14 with [say] brown hair and glasses leave the scene," how did the investigators put a name to the description??
Too bad he's a juvenile. We'll probably never get the details of how he was caught.
It's scary to think of a kid who would do something so destructive. He came very close to burning people's homes down. (For those who haven't gone onto the trail, the fire came right up to a couple people's back decks).

I'm glad to know that no one was harmed in the fire--including those who were there to put it out. This kid and his(?) family are going to go through some tough times, now. To his family I will have prayers for strength and patience. I hope the young kid can get past this and have a decent future.

The article said the investigators found a cigarette lighter. Fingerprint? Maybe he tried to put out the fire by stomping on it, and burned his shoes. Maybe he lives nearby and was recognized. The access in and out of that part of the parkway is quite limited, and the most likely exit is into a neighborhood. So you go to each house in that neighborhood and check out the kids that may fit the description, or profile, or the lighter. Maybe he confessed. Lots of possibilities.

One article I read talked about 'video filmed in the area'
Kids are pretty stupid these days, he probably filmed himself lighting it and left the tape on Sutter st.

I'm guessing one of his friends panicked and maybe dropped a dime on him......

Update June 29, 2007, Friday.
Don't know about arsonists,
but the city of Folsom Haz Mat
division has added more to the
bare soil next to our homes:
paper boxes of stuff; wood
pallets; more huge dumpsters.
.
None of vehicles have been
removed.
.
Folsom Life headline June 28 edition:
Folsom HD blaze threatens
neighborhood.
Neighbors take action to protect
property.
Burning from Lake Natoma shoreline
to top of Corp yard, fire captured waste disposal
storage
Great photos!
Hope the new flammables added by city
Haz Mat don't catch fire.
For those interested:
Code of Federal Regulations
Title 40 Haz Mats
should be required reading
for all city officials.
Robert Giacometti,
Didn't you do a study which found
municipal services could be provided
cheaper by other providers?
For our safety, it's time to consider
turning these Haz Mat duties over to
others.

I had heard that witnesses saw three boys in the area at the time, yet only one was arrested, so I'm guessing you're correct. In fact, we saw three boys hanging around on their bikes right after the fire started. I couldn't identify them, but we already suspected at the time that they had something to do with it (sixth sense? gut? maybe).

And Democrats in particular have a history of facilitating this obstructionism in exchange for campaign donations and votes." . . .Amanda Ripley re "Waiting for Superman" movie.
