I saw on the news earlier as well that the poor man was taken off life support...what a horrible thing to happen to another human being sad.gif For as long as I live, I will never understand how someone could be so cruel and have such disregard for human life that they could beat someone to death sad.gif I know that a lot of people will bring up race, sexual orientation, etc. in these cases (and these ARE legitimate concerns)...but to me, any human being that does this to another human being is perpetrating a "hate" crime sad.gif It makes me sick to think of the soul-less person(s) that did this and they are out here, walking around with the rest of us right now...and a young man has lost his life. And for what??? Being gay? Being of indian descent? Being in the wrong place at the wrong time?? No, this young man lost his life for NOTHING! An innocent person enjoying a day with friends, and now he's dead, beaten to death by those who felt justified in doing it, for whatever reason. I will never understand this. I pray for the young man's family. And for these vicious murderers to be caught and be held accountable for this horrible and senseless act angry.gif

This is unfortunate for the individual and family members.

The question now becomes what is the city and law enforcement going to do to send a strong message to the community that violent crime of any kind, against anyone, is not tolerated in this great city?

Not to by picky, but this was not a City of Folsom crime, it was Sacramento County with the County Sheriff doing the investigation.

The vigil that took place tonight had a lot of people there even though the announcement was a last minute one. It was very reassuring to see so many people from different communities come together and show their support for this man and his friends/family.

Thanks for the correction! Still same question posed though.

I saw coverage of it on the Channel 2 news i nthe Bay Area. Looked like a good turnout.

Regardless of motivation, this is a tragic incident... sad.gif

Here is the real question MikeinFolsom! Would you rather be Gay or Russian than a racist, homophobic bigot?! I would rather be Gay and Russian than any of the three! The US needs gays and russians much more that it does racists, homophobes, or bigots!

Here's the question.....would you rather be gay....or Russian? Seems like the pot calling the kettle black if you ask me. Send em both back where they came from. The US needs neither of them.

Anyone breaking the law needs to be held accountable - immigrant or citizen. This has become an "immigration" discussion and it concerns me that we're drawing issues to substantiate our biases and generalizing them.

And yes, I am an immigrant, I speak two languages, I have am an executive, I am active in this community, I pay my taxes, and I give to others. Blanket statements of immigrants running rampant is not fair to those who are contributing to society.

You speak American-Work here legally (?)-pay your taxes and are involved in your community. Sorry--your not an immigrant anymore. Your about as American as I. Officially you'll be an American when you get your naturalization papers. But that is not the point. I'm not trying to get on the band wagon about census numbers generation-alisms {which can confound the mind} when compared to the political upheavals of each generation throughout our countries young history. But I can confidently say that popular partisan participation in the electoral process has always stemmed and flowed with a debate on immigration numbers. Period. It's the truth. This has been a long time coming in our generation due to the eco-political make up of our countries stance on infrastructure, homeland security and defence spending.

Now when substantiating a discussion primarily brought up via a relatively (I do mean relative) conservative newspaper on the facts (hey-its a paper, you get what you read from it unless you were present at the event) one must articulate that the author of the article made it clear that both parties were immigrants. Draw conclusions all you want on that but there are actually more questions raised in my mind by the notoriously poor editing of newspapers than conclusions on what purportedly happened at that park.

So--when I ask--are their a lot of immigrants running around our city or county committing capitol crimes--why ask if I am biased against immigrants? Rather, shouldn't one ask: how many capitol crimes were committed that day in that county? How many have demographically proven statistics over and over that this is a certain demographic group that is unstable in our society? Maybe not many--but enough that we are here right now--in shock about this crime.

The movie :: Men in Black II "hey, man that's racial profiling. I resent that"

"whatever, dog".

See how that comes about? A few--can be the catalyst for a whole.

Anyway--I don't know how long you've been in America--but welcome to America!! I always like saying that!! It gives me warm fuzzies.

It looks like a bystander called 911 and told the rangers of the possibility of a fight before it happened.

Three hours before Satender Singh was punched in a fatal attack at Lake Natoma on July 1, a bystander called 911 to warn that a fight was brewing, according to witness and phone records.

However, Sacramento County Sheriff's Department deputies could not find the site after searching for about 20 minutes, a sheriff's spokesman said.

Folsom resident Wolfgang Chargin said he watched the increasingly angry interaction between Singh's group of Fijian and East Indian immigrants and a group of Russian-speaking people for much of that July afternoon. They were both using the Lake Natoma picnic area off Hazel Avenue.
