Well after the pitbull gets hold of you or your pet--the one word gets changed to:

plastic-surgery.

However, I can say this in Andrea's defense. The pets you raise and keep at home are merely chameleons when you are home. In truth, their playful behavior and cuteness is nothing more than carnivorous hunting practices.

Afterall, how many times have you heard of wonderful loving pets who chew on their owners after the owner has died and the pet can't find food? They don't worry about whether you approve of their hunting, or their craving for meat. They are carnivors. So, when they hunt succesfully, it is merely their nature. A little something that science and humanistic expectations will not/ can not change. Rejoice in their proud efforts and then quietly send them outside to finish it off.

I would be more worried about an overly fat and pampered cat that can not jump onto the couch anymore. You'll be paying serious veterinarian bills for fat cat--later on.

I admit--I like watching national geographic. But I really don't like fishing networks or hunting or bull fighting networks.
Why? I enjoy seeing the animals thrive in their natural habitat. I recognize that for that to happen there must be loss of life for some--and gain of strength and population for others.

So, whereas I would not take a pic of a dead cat on a bike trail that has been chewed by a coyote (ya seen it once-ya seen it a thousand times) But, I would take a pic of my favorite pet succeeding in her insticts and hunting down her first proven kill. I'd keep the photo in a momento box of all the firsts..

Afterall, my pets are part of my family. Their joy gives me joy. Their pain usually means vet bills--which gives me pain. But more than anything, if I accept a pet into my home, I expect certain animalistic behaviors to show themselves. I have to accept, that I still value them as a member of my family (pack, herd, school, gaggle, nest, den). That's what gives the spice to companionship.

I guess that's how the guy with the pit-bull feels when his dog tears up a cat.

Don't you think your response is a bit jaded? There is a definite line in the kitty litter between a cat hunting a wild bird vs. teaching a domesticated animal to attack other domesticated animals.
Really Steve, have you never watched your pet do something and felt a small smile of pride tugging at you? What about your cockatiel? What if she were to get out a eat a worm? Cockatiels are supposed to eat worms, tho most owners don't allow their birds such protein. So, what if she were to decide to play with her worm while she ate? In the wild that is a form of tuning your hunting skills--or perhaps getting your stomach juices going.

So would you really be horrified at your bird following instincts?
Frankly, I can't believe we have become such a PC country we can't accept the base level of animal behavior in a pet.

kinda funny, once we were pioneersand gold diggers and miners and now we are a country linked together by 0's and 1's and weak stomachs.

There is a difference between natural animal behavior and cruelty.

There is a difference between natural animal behavior and cruelty.

The common complaint about pit-bulls is that you don't have to teach them to attack. It's their nature to do so. A pit-bull can't tell the difference between a domesticated cat and a feral one.

So, accepting that, if a pit-bull, which has the instinct to attack smaller animals, chases and kills a cat, should the owner be proud? Happy? Should he admire the dog for only doing what comes naturally? Should he photograph it and post the pics on line? Should the picks go in the family photo albums?

Using your logic, the answer would have to be 'yes', unless you think cats are more deserving of life than birds are, and have more right to kill than dogs do.

You gotta be consistent.

Although I am not a vegetarian, I still have respect for life, and just could not bring myself to watch, admire, photograph and post pics of one animal killing another.

By the way, although at home, cockatiels will eat most table foods, in the wild, they are natural vegetarians, primarily eating greens and seeds. They do not kill nor eat worms.

In fact, I think it would be safe to say that a worm would scare the crap out of Honey. She's terrified of flies, bees and spiders as it is. You should see her sitting in the window looking out at the world when a bee happens by. She'll hide behind the window fram, a vase, or whatever she thinks will shield her from the bee's eyes.

Exactly the same. One animal killing another, as animals do.
