Don't you think your response is a bit jaded? There is a definite line in the kitty litter between a cat hunting a wild bird vs. teaching a domesticated animal to attack other domesticated animals.
Really Steve, have you never watched your pet do something and felt a small smile of pride tugging at you? What about your cockatiel? What if she were to get out a eat a worm? Cockatiels are supposed to eat worms, tho most owners don't allow their birds such protein. So, what if she were to decide to play with her worm while she ate? In the wild that is a form of tuning your hunting skills--or perhaps getting your stomach juices going.
So would you really be horrified at your bird following instincts?
Frankly, I can't believe we have become such a PC country we can't accept the base level of animal behavior in a pet.
There is a difference between natural animal behavior and cruelty.
The common complaint about pit-bulls is that you don't have to teach them to attack. It's their nature to do so. A pit-bull can't tell the difference between a domesticated cat and a feral one.
So, accepting that, if a pit-bull, which has the instinct to attack smaller animals, chases and kills a cat, should the owner be proud? Happy? Should he admire the dog for only doing what comes naturally? Should he photograph it and post the pics on line? Should the picks go in the family photo albums?
Using your logic, the answer would have to be 'yes', unless you think cats are more deserving of life than birds are, and have more right to kill than dogs do.
You gotta be consistent.
Although I am not a vegetarian, I still have respect for life, and just could not bring myself to watch, admire, photograph and post pics of one animal killing another.
By the way, although at home, cockatiels will eat most table foods, in the wild, they are natural vegetarians, primarily eating greens and seeds. They do not kill nor eat worms.
In fact, I think it would be safe to say that a worm would scare the crap out of Honey. She's terrified of flies, bees and spiders as it is. You should see her sitting in the window looking out at the world when a bee happens by. She'll hide behind the window fram, a vase, or whatever she thinks will shield her from the bee's eyes.
