I make my refried beans with bacon fat, fresh from cooking bacon. That's the best way to make them, in my opinion. Of course, in my opinion, EVERYTHING is better with bacon or bacon fat.
I guess my few years living down South is showing....

Yes, Nani used to keep a jar of bacon fat on hand. She lived to be 93, but I can't take the chance!

Your Nani knew what was good! REAL food and REAL fat.
I'd rather die and live and enjoy, than live longer and do without my bacon fat! If you live to be eighty, they'll just throw your butt into an convalescing home anyway.
For hundreds of years people used bacon fat or lard in their food and many lived to be in their eighties.
My grandmother, for one...my grandfather for another. They lived on farm and never thought anything about good fat or bad fat. The fact is, the artificial food, the artificial sweeteners, and the preservatives we eat are what kills us. Remove that, and you'll live longer.
Now get in that kitchen and fry up some bacon and make some corn bread with it! You KNOW you want to!
Or, how about some Grits with real butter, to go with that bacon?
You know, it's the amount of fat you eat, not the fat it self. A little bacon grease goes a long way.

Glad to hear that!! Yeah, Danny is a real Motorcycle enthusiast.. =) He always offers a space at his home for me to "park" my bike over the winter... lol.. to bad I cant park my bike because I Love it soo much..
Anyways, back on topic it really makes me happy to hear of others enjoying the food. I know how much hard work it has been for them, and hearing that makes it all worth it.. especially because they truly love what they do, and they are truly there to make friends as well.. They are new to the area, have only been there for about a year, so they enjoy talking to the everyone... =) His wife just had her second baby.. =)

We did! It was delish! We love that place, as well. Also, La Fiesta (allll the way across town from the V's) is a great place. They're both authentic and reasonably priced. We tried El Rey and weren't impressed. The food was barely lukewarm, for starters. We may give it another try at some point, but I'm wary.
We could not be doing this without you.
Much love and gratitude.

Im with you re: El Rey! Our everyday food growing up was Mexican food, due to our heritage. Moved to Folsom 3 years ago and was dying for good Mexican food, that I didnt have to make. Based on recs for El Rey, we tried it. . We felt terrible for not wanting to return because the owner was delightful. The cook may have had an off day, perhaps we should give it another try, due to the positives some people on here give. We do enjoy the enviornment, service and food of Felipes. . .

Next time your at the Hacienda patio, watch the mice beneath the floorboards. Especially at the top of the stairs. And watch your food for roaches!
Other than that their green sauce is to DIE for. No seriously, the best American interpretation of mexican in town. Big portions. But, Bug and mouse problem. I suspect immigration issues as well. Unless they've cleaned up.
