On my visit I sat at the bar and chatted with one of the owners (didn't catch name, sorry) while I ate my dinner. They were often distracted; this particular one was trying to figure out the register, with some help. But he was quite knowledgeable about the beer, he's a fellow home brewer. The staff was getting a lot of questions and spending a lot of time enthusing about their ideas. I think what you have is a couple of guys who are enthusiastic for good food, beer and wine, but maybe are newcomers to running restaurants. They'll get with the flow pretty quick I think.

I sort of think the three huge televisions looming over everything are a bit overwhelming. One at the end of the bar with the sound down (unless someone is watching) would be a little better.

Did you sit at the bar Dave? Our service issues were around the waitress/confusion. I think it was just all too new for her to be "in the swing" of things.

nope, sat at a table farthest from the bar and the service was unbelievably great.

spicy is too quick to bash and put down a restaurant here in town

FYI, Brent the owner (who I had several very good conversations with) said he only just got the POS system working the day before opening so that could have caused for some newness slowness on opening day when you guys were there.

since spicy is so secretive, I can only assume that she lives in Roseville

My guess would be the bowels of Rancho.

Good to see that others are actually going, experiencing the food / drink first hand and discussing their positive experiences and not basing their desire to go on an uneducated post.

I went- it was awesome.
YMMV.
What work I have done I have done because it has been play. If it had been work I shouldn't have done it. Who was it who said, "Blessed is the man who has found his work"? Whoever it was he had the right idea in his mind. Mark you, he says his work--not somebody else's work. The work that is really a man's own work is play and not work at all. Cursed is the man who has found some other man's work and cannot lose it. When we talk about the great workers of the world we really mean the great players of the world. The fellows who groan and sweat under the weary load of toil that they bear never can hope to do anything great. How can they when their souls are in a ferment of revolt against the employment of their hands and brains? The product of slavery, intellectual or physical, can never be great.

I think Davburrito is funny, but not in a bad way. It's kind of cute. smile.gif

As for Spicy, the poster is rather strange, and I can't figure out what's up. I do know that once he/she reviewed Macaroni Grill, all credibility was gone.

I agree with ChipShot that we should really only be able to have one ID. I know there are ways around it, as Cloud9 (and whoever else he is) has mentioned before.

I can't wait to try Manderes, but don't know when we'll make it - having kids and all. It sounds interesting, even though I'm more of a wine drinker. I do love a good beer now and then. My husband would probably love it.

hehehe its a good one and I'll even give points to spicy for that last one about having an ounce of meat in it .... with all this talk of the davburrito - its making me want to come up with some kinda unique burrito I can call my own using that moniker heheheh

course I dunno if it'll sound right saying "would you like to try my davburritto"?

Back to the topic of this thread....

The guys at Manderes have a pretty good wine selection too and something that is unique at this place is they also have a choice of beers with a sweet taste (like Belgian white chimay ales), including some good ciders that you may find you like just as well as wine.

this place surprised me, it was better, much better, then I was originally expecting. It kinda reminded me of a mini McCormick & Schmick's

they offer taste samples too if you wanna try before you buy

I think I'll pop in about 630. If none of y'all are there, I'll try My Brother Vinny's.

Likewise.

I think this will develop into a place where locals go to connect and hang out. Since they don't have hard liquor, we probably won't see too many drunks, the place is too small to become a trendy meat market, and it doesn't have the carnival atmosphere of the chains, so I wouldn't expect to see mom, dad, the kids and grandma.

It's just a nice little place to grab a bite, a drink (they have non-alcoholic drinks, too!), maybe catch a game, and socialize.

Someone asked where the patio would be. I believe that the area to the left, when looking at the place from East Bidwell, will be closed off with nice fencing, and a door cut out from the restaurant.

PS, whoever mentioned the restrooms earlier, was spot on. They are the nicest restrooms you will ever enter through an exterior door laugh.gif A bit odd...
