In my view, Tiger has as much to do with Folsom as Johnny Cash does...

It would be better than Folsom Lake Crossing.
I can see giving directions. You take your car and putt past the small wedge of land by Briggs Ranch and turn left onto Tiger Woods Drive which brings you straight to the Tiger Woods Fairway Bridge which will take you across the American River water hazard.
Did you notice I kept all the golf terms in the green?

How about-
The Gastric Bypass
it seems to match as well as any other and it's a real buzz word...
Imagine the traffic reports....
"Well Tim, things are slow and go heading out on 50E as traffic slows for no apparent reason at the Folsom Blvd. exit and we are backed up for miles heading in to the Gastric Bypass....reporting live from Chopper 18, back to you in the studio."

but sadly ... I think you folks are "p*ssing" in the wind... the city hall crowd don't give a rat's *ss what you think...
so maybe if you are passionate about it... why don't you "techy" guys put up a petition to be signed by "residents"...
you could easily set up a website... have a "log-in" and get some names and addresses of people that are serious about it as you are... lot's easier than sitting out in front of Raley's and Savmart collecting signatures on a petition...
Maybe if they see about a thousand or two signatures on a petition they will "get the memo"...
worth a shot... what's it cost for a domain name and a funky website to do this.. put the link in myfolsom here... let the press know what you are doing... and you'll get lots and lots of attention...
I'm the "idea guy"... now somebody take this ball and run with it...
You're welcome...

good idea dude - maybe John could set up a poll - we could then submit the results to city council

When he submits it he should give them all a T-shirt with cv's logo that says Folsom Lake Crossing doesn't cross Folsom Lake.
I bet those shirts would sell well at Thursday Night Market with cv's logo on them.

With regard to Lake Natoma, it is a wide spot in the river that has a dam upstream and downstream (at the fish hatchery) - which makes it a lake.
For those who like the idea of more money in the City's coffers - if we name it after Johnny Cash, there will be an increase in tourism. You may not drive over it because of who it is named for, but there are lots of others who will - just because they can. I was at the Prison a few weeks ago, with a TV Crew. During the 30 minutes we were at the main gate, 5 car loads of people drove up to take pictures near the entrance to the old prison, and asked it they could go on a tour (which of course they can not). That was around 4:30 on a Wednesday afternoon. The Chamber gets about 100 hits per day with people looking for info on the prison and Johnny Cash. If people come to Folsom to drive across the bridge, they will stop for lunch or dinner, shop at the Factory Stores, maybe stay at a hotel and, as one of my friends said, maybe even buy gasoline - that has the potential to add up to a fair amount of spending here in town. Naming it anything that does not refer to Johnny Cash will lead to NO additional tourism - so why waste that opportunity?

I spoke with Steve M about it, and he made a good point, and that is that the neither the Chamber nor the Tourism Bureau has done much marketing relative to Johnny Cash. He played 2 concerts at the prison, and a movie about him filmed a couple of scenes there. We know that even without marketing to tourists, some still seek us out. Why aren't we/they doing more?
There should be a display at the Folsom History Museum and/or at the Chamber, Visitor's Center and the prison museum.
Still, I think naming the bridge after Cash would bring in both cash and notoriety. I'm all for seeing the council re-name it.

I already did a poll and presented out to city council before the vote. Apparently they'd rather poll all their clients and employees, because we have different "circles" that we are in. i guess my "circle" isn't a fair representation of people that vote and pay taxes.
My circle: Folsom residents
His circle: developers and politicians
It's all politics. If you can swing King and Morin (Morin is definitely on the fence, and King seemed pretty indifferent), that is all it takes. Howell is obviously in.
