I called this morning and confirmed that they are NOT busing to the High Schools in Folsom this year. They were hoping it would be over turned but that hasnt happened yet. I did not know this was happening, otherwise I would have fought it. I think it is ridiculous, especially since we fork out the money to bus them. Its not like it free, as when we were kids.
This can still be overturned if parents want to get involved and fight it. They also said communication is suppose to come out soon in the form of a letter or mass automated phone call. PM me if you are interested in joining the war..hehe

Channel 13 mentioned this on the 10 oclock news last night. However, they said the reason they are not providing bussing for the district's high schools is b/c of the high cost of gas. No mention of budget cuts. Interesting...

Funny, they did mention it was on the new last night but I didnt see it. It was actually because of budget cuts according to the transportation dept this morning. Interesting...I wonder what the real truth is.

Ya, totally agree... it was even in their cut proposal on the district web site, so wonder why they mentioned gas as the reason. I'm sure the price doesn't help the situation, but it certainly isn't the only reason. Who knows? Maybe they did mention the budget and I just didn't catch it, but I don't think so.

Camay, yes a 50 passenger bus is much better than even 25 cars taking two kids. It's better in terms of gas usage and much better in terms of traffic management around the schools, making it a safer environment. However, very few people in this town seem to put transportation as a priority.
As a soon-to-be-single Mom myself, if there isn't bus service, I do wonder just how my kids will be getting to/from school in the future. I'd be more than willing to pay for the service to secure consistent, safe transportation for my kids, whether or not they thought it was cool. (Sorry kids, but I don't care too much about cool.)

Good for you, but be careful. These days you'll be accused of being a bad, insensitive, and abusive parent.

It may be possible that the district does not have a line item for the buses and are paid for by the users of the service (hard to believe though).
It is not just the kids, but parents also who have to juggle, so getting kids up and ready 40 minutes earlier is one of the reasons I don't get excited about school buses. But, do try to capool to the extent possible - mostly for my own conveniece.
Recently I used light rail once and was satisfied overall...so, maybe a combination of light rail and Folsom Stage Line may be an option for some...

Not enough riders? On the way there maybe(didn't ride the bus TO school), but one the way back it is crammed with kids from the high school and middle school. It was so cramped. Brings back such claustrophobic memories.

When was this?

Agree with riding to school. High School starts at 8am so a lot of parents are able to drop their kids off on the way to school like I do. But home, there are a ton of kids that ride the bus. There have been many occasions that my Son has called me because their bus didnt show up and I have to take half the neighborhood home. Good thing I only work across the street from the high school.

I'm not familiar with the Folsom/Cordova District, but for El Dorado Union High School District, I pay $220 a year for my son to ride the bus each year. Are the bus fees in Folsom comparable?

I don't think they make much but its a GREAT job for college students. I had a friend who did it. He would go to work in the AM, be off by 9am, go to class, then back to work around 2pm and off by 4pmish. The bus schedule worked perfectly into his class schedule. It could also be something fun.
Personally, I wouldn't allow my kids to ride the bus. None of my kids are disabled so they can do just fine on their bikes.

Just a reminder here...
When the EDUCRATS fought against us splitting the district...? They said that if we split the district we wouldn't be able to afford "free home to school" bussing anymore...
Hmmmm...
Sounds like another stinking lie coming out of the education establishment...
