You're right. But I'd like to bring up a couple points which are raising red flags all over the place:

1) I find it hard to believe a 3rd grader is doing a report. Anything is possible I suppose, but it seems sort of overkill for simple 3rd grade curriculum.
2) Why is said "report" being researched a week before school lets out for summer? (This incident happened within the last week or so). Ask any teacher, the last thing they want is more work to grade as the year winds down.
3) Why was said "research" unsupervised?
4) How could the pedophile who contacted this girl just happen to live .4mi away?

These points are suspicious and should probably be looked into further by some sort of investigative authority. The mother has her story, but I wonder how much of it was just to cover her poor parenting? I suspect her daughter was merely surfing the internet for entertainment and wasn't being watched. Plain and simple.

I dont need to live near this family to figure out something major is missing from this puzzle.

It does make me wonder how this guy knew the girls IM name. Perhaps by name via FB or something, but it's still freaky that this guy went looking for this girl in particular.

Who says reporting was not an option on the table for some of us? As one person already said, the school called. This was something we became aware of and decided not to stack on another report.

I am pleased the police did their job. Pleased the mother stepped in. VERY concerned about events leading up to this incident.

I think the people trying to attack and criticize the people who know the facts are "interesting". Why would you dismiss more than one person who has the actual facts of the situation? I don't really want an answer, just something to think about. Personally, I am curious about what is REALLY going on.

Saw this story on Fox40 news. I wouldn't exactly call the girl smart as she kept talking to the creep on IM and waited for a day to even tell her Mom what was going on. Apparently the guy lived about .5 miles from their house.

10 yr old on a PC and Mom has no idea what she is even doing? Geesh. And from the way she talked on the news she seemed more like 6 than 10 from the way she spoke.

I'd like to add that I have been at my brothers house who is a neighbor of this family and I've seen myself how these little girls run around the neighborhood while the parent(s) have actually LEFT in their car while the girls are playing outside. Granted it was only for 15 minutes or so (while I've been there at least) but they didn't say a thing to the girls OR any of the neighbors to keep an eye on them, just let them continue running around outside. So this 10 year old talking to a nasty old man online (and wanting to continue talking to him) does not surprise me in the least. It's sad that she is in a home that does not have any rules or limits, I feel bad for the children.
