Yeah. When they advertise cattle drive at 6pm, I don't expect to see entertainment at 6 on the dot, but I also don't expect to see *nothing* until 6:55, especially when crammed on a sidewalk in the sun. We were at the tail end of the route. We didn't even get to see the bullipede people (well, 3 teams did a courtesy run around the extra block).

I think they had a few rough spots getting things going. Next year should be better. The bullipedes should go all the way to the end, too.

I don't know where you were standing but there was a medical emergency that stalled things for a bit. But they definitely needed to get a move on. We were lucky to be i the shade. I had a LOT of fun with the Bullipede, I can't wait until next year!

The medical emergency near me was a lady who passed out. One of the paramedics said she probably was dehydrated.

I know, I know. You threw a Frisbee to two boys sitting on the curb in front of me. I think it made the parade for them.

Ducky, which block were you on? I was doing security on the 700 block.

I wasn't on Sutter. I was up near the very beginning of the parade at Natoma & Stafford in some shade. Hope that lady was okay.

I was near the end also. I saw the gentlemen with the noodle hat and was bummed that they didn't have it end closer to the cattle corrals. Oh well, hopefully they will be able to get things going earlier, it was really dissappointing to be waiting so long. Great effort myfolsom team!

I am willing to blame it on the cattle, probably had it in their contract that they had to consume green M&Ms before running. But, just in case they need somebody new to run the event from a project management standpoint.

I was next to one of the costumed lady's from the old west group. (Talk about our issues of having to wait over an hour in the hot sun!) She was saying that in the planning meetings they were continually told to be on time and move from section to section at exactly the right time, as this event was keeping to a tight schedule, yet apparently nobody else got that message.

Also, we were down near old Europe and the lady leading the Wells Fargo wagon could not figure out how to exit the parade route and go around the parking structure. She got mad that there was not a path directly back to the trailer, so she just stopped the parade right there. Then a Folsom PD motor cop had to help put the cattle gates in place at the end of the route as nobody was around to do that. Again, having somebody direct the parade would have helped.

I wondered why it stopped. I was fully expecting to stare at a horse butt for the rest of the evening. It was just one of those feelings.

Thoughts for next year:
1) Bullipedes should go to the end of the street. Definitely a fun event, a great addition. The hydration tent was a welcome sight.
2) The Bullipede "Awards Ceremony" and all that should have been where we finished up. By the time they finally got around to awards, everyone left. That was a bit disorganized, but hey, it's a new event. Maybe they could do all the awards and t-shirts when people are standing around waiting for cattle.
3) They really needed to get a move on with things. The parade should have IMMEDIATELY followed the Bullipede runners. It's hot out there.
4) Lose the tacky yellow police tape and replace it with western rope. It ruins everyone's pictures!
5) there should have been scores of people selling water for maybe $1.
6) Can't wait to run again, that was fun. Costumes will be bigger and better next year, methinks.

Agreed.

Also, it should be required that the bullipede stay in a single file line throughout the race. That's the nature and effect of a centipede-type event. The runners are tethered together and run single file. That's what makes it interesting and/or funny. Otherwise, it just looks like a group of people running 5 abreast.

I was expecting them to provide the tether between us so there was a standard. Kinda lame for each team to supply their own. Having such a long line between runners allowed the side-by-side running. Some teams had 6-feet of lightweight line between them, so it was like they weren't even connected. One poor team had short little 1-ft bungy cords between them.

Another team used a long, thick, heavy extension cord. That was at least useful for defensive positions that involved spreading out across the street to stop other teams from passing. wink.gif

'Twas fun, though... until the running started. I thought we voted against doing any of that?

My poor wife was told we were walking and chose to hang back with us. She somehow became our unofficial 6th member, running down the street in flip-flops pushing a stroller with my son in it! At least he thought it was fun!

In my section, there were lots of people selling water for a dollar. But they were on the sidewalk, trapped. Sometimes they'd try to push themselves amongst the crowd, but it didn't work out to well. I guess they were trying to follow the "do not cross yellow line" rule, that was poorly executed and not enforced.

I like the idea about rope instead of caution tape. The "you must stand behind the yellow tape" requirement really only works when the tape isn't stretch halfway into the street! The rope wouldn't only look better but would actually be safer because it doesn't stretch.

For Bay to Breakers, where centipede running began, the centipedes have to have a 4 feet between each segment (runner), and must finish single file. What is used to tether runners together is up to the teams. Some are connected by a sheet or cape with their heads sticking out.

I think it was very much like Bay 2 Breakers - some took it serious, like a race, and the rest just had fun with it. I look forward to next year!
