I'm not anti-sex.  I'm just against anyone having it.  If God wanted people to have sex...........ah, nevermind.

Actually, Adamal, it supposedly will have porn stuff in the back.  By code, it cannot cover more than 25% of the store floor area.  I hear they will have a Grand Opening special:  Buy four straps, get a whip for free.  Sorry, best I could do under pressure.

What is wrong with porn if it's in the back? The problem with some christians is that they believe that sex is only for procreation. Which is a big reason why sex is such a no no in our society. If they dug a little they'd find out that the guy who first preached that had tons of sex, orgie style. Actually this style of thinking was due to a movement against roman extravegence.

If its an upscale lingerie shop, with a few sex goodies I say great.

Ah the procreation bunch.... if that were true perhaps they should opt for artificial insemination.... otherwise, they're getting pleasure out of it in the process of procreation and what purpose does that serve? hypocritesmiley.png

What is Emma's Place Terry?  You're probably the only one on these boards that can answer that question... noone else has been here long enough....  biggrin.gif

Emma Spencer owned the building that's now up on a temporary foundation at the Leidesdorf lid (where the temporary traffic lane from the Lake Natoma Crossing comes up to Sutter Street/Leidesdorf). It used to be located further up Leidesdorf. My parents say Emma was a gracious, kind lady who operated during the depression and into the 40s. She was very charitable, too. During the depression she never turned away those who were down and out - giving meals to those who were hungry. Yes, she did operate a brothel out of her home, but was actually well-respected by Folsom residents. Local law enforcement pretty much let her alone because she was honest, discreet, and gave financial support to families and other businesses n the community when times were tough. Spencer Street off Cimmaron Circle (off East Natoma near the prison) is named in her honor. Her building was abandoned for quite some time, and then in the early 80s, it became Folsom Montessori (my offspring attended it in its first years), then Deirdre Hawkins Dance Studio. With the building of the Lake Natoma Crossing, it was relocated and saved from demolition by the late June Hose of the Folsom History Museum (along with Cindy Baker's help). It hasn't been used since the move to its current location, but the last I heard was the Parks and Rec was planning to rehab it and use it for a meeting room or possibly an activity center for smaller scale Parks and Rec activities.

I've yet to hear anyone say anything bad about this woman. Those who knew her back in the day truly speak fondly of her.

I just attended city council meeting on this issue. The newspaper misstated the facts that this store will carry “novelty items”.

The fact is, according to their own business plan, they will have hard core sex toys, S &M items, Deviant bondage and sportsheets.

The new owners are an Intel couple who doesn’t live in our community, but want to bring their smut into our wholesome town. It seems like an odd side business for professionals.

Sutter Street is no longer a dying district. I’ve read that they have an active board of business professionals now committed to revitalizing the district, including bringing in new restaurants and upscale shopping.

So I ask, does Ms. Teaz really belong on Sutter Street?

No big deal....

The reason porn has taken off in the last 10yrs is because "professionals" MBAs, CPAs, Lawyers, etc... have gone into the business, so it's not so unusual.

Does it "belong" on Sutter Street? Depends on how its done. It's not a house of ill repute as one once existed there.

If the people of Folsom don't buy anything there, the business, like many others will cease to exist.

I love the "hard core" sex toys and "deviant" bondage.... very objective. Could have made the same point without the "hard core" and "deviant" comments.

Like I said once before, those with the "loudest" objections are probably the ones doing the most of this stuff behind closed doors.... tongue.gif

So is still a Lingerie shop? Once again what is wrong with hard core sex toys? I agree I don't want them in the window display but who cares if they sell it.

the article said they explicitly are *not* selling the hard core stuff... I'm not sure where your facts are from, but that's not the impression I got.

"Hardcore" and "Deviant"...interesting choice of words. I'm not so sure about the "wholesome" nature of Folsom. I imagine Folsom is just like any place else with regards to people's own private sex lives. In fact, I've recently become aware of a fairly large swinger community in this town. You might be surprised what your neighbors are doing in this "wholesome" town!

If the store displays it's wares tastefully and keeps the deviant, hardcore stuff in the back out of the reach of curious children, I don't think there's anything wrong with it being on Sutter Street.

How dare you write this filthy trash?! Of course sex is only for procreation! If the city council allows this to happen I will stop going to orgies at their houses! At least for a while.

Where are our priorities? If we are worried about the 'family atmosphere' or
'wholesomeness' of our town, we should be show more concern for things like:

1) Rampant alcohol and drug abuse among our ever so wholesome community (for more info, please come to the Healthy Families Forum on Oct 26, 7pm, at the Folsom Community Center)

2) Racist flyers that have been distributed to our neighborhoods

3) Driving at excessive speeds, causing death and injury (join and embrace the 'Slow down Folsom' movement. More details coming)

These issues pose far greater threats to our wholesomeness and family atmosphere than a thong and shop on Sutter Street.
