Thanks for explaining, it was the "watching while driving" part that had me going.

I probably should have stated that better. I assumed that watching anything but the road would be a complete "no no" and didn't even consider the fact that there might be some idiots out there who actually do that sort of thing.

Heck, to be honest, I feel uncomfortable even talking on the phone hands free, and only do that in unavoidable situations.

I've witnessed all sorts while driving, women putting on makeup, some guy reading a novel while holding it on his steering wheel, a guy shaving literally up & close looking at himself in his rearview mirror, some business man rifling through his briefcase with his head cocked holding his cellphone to his shoulder. So I wouldn't put it past some people to hold their ipod on their steering wheel to watch a show while driving (like the guy reading his novel).

glad to hear that isn't you, thanks

Just a question on the Iphone as my daughter is getting one next week on my plan.
What would be the need to get a 32gig versus the 16gig ? she is insistent on the 32

cheers

How much more - how much can you pack in 16G vs 32G in real terms -( Duh I know it is twice as much )
why do you need to carry them around ? why not download to the home puter or her net book?

How big is her library?

It's convenient to be able to store an entire music library on an ipod. Devices which can't contain your entire library have to be micromanaged (songs taken off and others put back on,) with an ipod capable of storing an entire music library + other stuff (applications, etc,) the device becomes MUCH MORE convenient.

So it depends on your daughters music library.

Once you start putting TV shows on it, it adds up pretty fast. A typical TV show that I get from <redacted> goes about 700 mb for an hour.

One analyst predicts that the iPhone will be offered on other carriers next year. But that's just some dude talkin'. I would like to see Apple announce the expansion of support beyond AT&T as soon as possible. Wednesday would be nice.

I don't think an exclusive Apple relationship with AT&T serves iPhone users. I'll bet you don't either. The FCC sure doesn't. The other carriers don't. Even Apple probably doesn't think so.

And now, the piece de resistance: Even AT&T admits that it can't handle the iPhone all by itself.

Apple: Tear up that contract!

I read elsewhere a while back that the exclusivity contract with AT&T will expire near the end of 2010... With this in mind I signed my last two year cell phone contract with another carrier, which I hope to keep, in the Fall of 2008... With a lot of competition from other phones in the same market, I don't know if the Iphone will even top my list by a year from now...

There are a lot of "pretenders" trying to copy the iphone, but none are even close.

Have you had a chance yet to play with an iphone? If not, you should go to an Apple store to check them out someday, it's more like a mini computer with a phone feature, not the other way around.

Do they make them without a camera?

Nope, it's not optional.

The camera btw, is a really good one, and it can also shoot video - all with very good quality resolution.

True, and they say the best camera out there is the one you have with you.

And since I always have my phone with me, I'll be ready when aliens come down to abduct me. Stay tuned for the youtube video...

its the greatest all-in-one device ever created (so far)

I have never used more than 4 GB on my 8 GB iPhone. My music collection is around 450 GB, so it will be quite a few more generations before the iPhone can store that much data.

You're referring to the 3GS yea?

The 3G does not offer video unless its jailbroken. Or did you download an app to allow for video?
