wouldn't have mattered if it was a WRX or a 2000 Civic- it is the attitude of the driver ...

Another great  day in the adventure of exploration and sight.

I crashed enough times as a teenager to know my son ain't getting squat for a car. He'll be lucky if I let him buy a Saab running on 1/2 cylinders with his own money!

I got my son a nice used pickup truck- cool looking but only seats 2 or 3 if you push it.

Another great  day in the adventure of exploration and sight.

Had one 20 mph crash myself but having had a 4x4, did enough stupid things off-road and in the snow to now have wisdom (only because I survived).

I'm thinking 36 hp VW Bug for my son or the equivalent with modern day crash\safety standards.

This is true. don't know how many have driven this road , but it is one of the
nastiest in the area as far as pitch of the curves, dips and hairpins.
49 out of Auburn to Cool is a little similiar but not as tight or narrow.

Someone driving a civic can try to drive fast and have the same
result. ( teens in the car and buddies following doesn't help the situation)
The car is only as good as the driver. Unfortunately teens just don't have the experience for judgment with regard to speed.

If your kid is anything like you, make him ride his bicycle until he's 18

That is exactly my point. He either was or was not racing or speeding.

It does not matter if he is driving a Scion or a Corvette.

there is a report out now that two guys in a car that was following the accident car denied help from some people passing by and just told them someone had swerved to avoid an animal and they were fine and waiting for the police. one of hteir friends responded to the report saying that they were "traumatized" and that two were already dead and the other was brain dead. I'm not sure that was their call to make. And how were they involved?

they should not have refused help.

If this is indeed true then these other kids are also guilty of manslaughter or close to it.

Isn't it great that this is the way kids are these days. Instead of asking for help they were probably trying to buy time to think of a way out of it while their friends were dying. Like that loser that killed the teacher by Applebee's, he was more worried about his car than the life he took.

I weep for the future. I'm sure the parents of these kids will say they are really good kids.

I can't think of a good reason for a 17 year old to be out at 2:00 in the morning with such young adults.

Just because they were driving fast, doesn't mean that they still weren't really good kids.

Everybody is capable of making bad decisions, sometimes these bad decisions end up in the worst possible way. It's a tragedy, it may or may not be the result of bad kids doing bad things.

I would rather be Backpacking

Now you sound like one of those kids who waved off help for their dying friends.
