When we see things like this, it reminds all of us how fragile life really is. It could have been anyone of us instead of that Durango or Dave.

My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved , including those who were witnesses and our police and fire personnel who see these things way too often. This is part of their job I couldn't do day after day, night after night.

I just can't stop worrying about those kids. They are around my daughter's age.

From the looks of the car, it is amazing anyone survived.

The fact that the Mercedes driver had no headlights and was driving erratically does not look good for her.

I hope the kids are all okay - having 3 kids myself - it really makes you think . . .

What time did this happen? My wife and I, after our kids went down (sometime between 8-8:30pm) took the dog for a walk. At some point - I heard what I thought was a short skid and bang - and told my wife "that was a car accident." We were walking the greenbelt in the Parkway.

I know that people will, and do, drive with less regard for others in times of emergency. I've been amazed at how fast people can get to the hospital when a family member is in trouble. Because these kids were hurt, as was the other driver, one can only hope there were similar circumstances here that caused that type of driving behavior. I will save my judgment until I learn more.

Say a prayer for the kids.

investigation underway - alcohol may have been a factor of the Mercedes Driver. Durango driver cleared of suspicion. The good news - NO serious (life threatening) injuries.

You're all correct -- I typically wait for investigations before jumping to conclusions. I allowed myself to type what was in my head; not always a good idea.

I know what you mean-and how you feel.

Certain thoughts were running through my head. Prolly wouldn't be a good idea to share.

But then, Most of you know how I feel about drugs and alcohol.......so I'll just wait this out and see what is what and hope that the pain that little kid is going through is not so unbearable.

But the poor baby prolly does need a teddy bear, to help get through the shock and aches of such a traumatic accident.....

FTA... "None of the injuries appears to have been life-threatening."

So it sounds like the initial reports of one of the kids with life-threatening injuries is wrong?

Not sure. The one child was listed in critical condition initially. I think you can be in critical condition without it being life threatening.

I know one of the kids was hurt bad, but it looked like he will live - probably has some broken bones?, I don't really know how they classify injuries... I think Deb summed it up well

I did hear the ambulance medic at the scene yell there were 3 red and 1 yellow (indicating the level of severity?)

gotta keep in mind, the news is not exactly well know for their accuracy, especially if exaggerations can help sell more advertisements

I'm really glad that the other kids and the durango driver have been released and I'm super glad the durango driver has been cleared of any wrong doing.
I suspect the police will find out all the need to know once those blood test results from the mercedes driver are evaluated.

I think that considering the damage--for four people to generally be able to walk out of those vehicles with non-life threatening injuries is incredible.

Just the thought of two vehicles moving toward each other with so much force and speed to cause a vehicle to rip in half.....that is a lot of force, moving objects, and incredible amount of body shock (and re-shock).

Absolutely. My husband looked at Dave's photo and was shocked anyone made it out alive.

For those curious about medical states in USA (UK has different terms)

Undetermined Patient is awaiting physician and/or assessment.
Good (Blue) Vital signs are stable and within normal limits. Patient is conscious and comfortable. Indicators are excellent.
Fair (Green) Vital signs are stable and within normal limits. Patient is conscious, but may be uncomfortable. Indicators are favorable.
Serious (Yellow) Vital signs may be unstable and not within normal limits. Patient is acutely ill. Indicators are questionable.
Critical (Red) Vital signs are unstable and not within normal limits. Patient may be unconscious. Indicators are unfavorable.

absolutely agree! I was expecting to find dead people when I saw how broken and torn up that car was

that sound of those cars hitting right behind me with such terrific force was horrible - just think, one car doing around 50-60mph and the other doing 40-50mph when they hit - that was nearly a 100mph impact at the collision.

I also think with the speed the mercedes was going, it might have rolled on its own without any other cars involved from taking that turn way too fast

I was taking a class once--and in it we were studying a mathematical equation for speed of both drivers (a conversion by mileage factor) times mass equals speed speed times forces of impact.

Where it got interesting was that the teacher said people had been studying for years a consistant enough pattern to show speed times forces of impact equals damage by place of position (unknown factor) of body weight, general health(?another factor), height, gender and age= to guess survivability of massive accidents.

Apparently insurance companies were interested-in the study. (car and health)

However, I just don't think I am remembering the entire equation. Maybe one of our car insurance people (on MyFolsom) knows?
