I agree with Marianna, that is a very good deal considering the quality and quantity of food you get there. Shoot, even their rice and beans are very good.... a sign of a very good Mexican joint.. I mean even La Rosa Blanca charges $9.85 for a bowl of Pozole. Now, who in their right mind would pay that for a bowl of soup? hopefully no one I know... hehe

The 2 + appetizer for $20 is a good deal (that's what we did), but the more "gourmet" menu choices are not included in that special -- it's only basic tacos, enchiladas, and burritos.

Casa Ramos charges $7.95, I believe, for tortilla soup. I was very surprised at that price. My daughter loves tortilla soup but I told her no, she had to eat off the kids menu because the soup was too pricey.

Although I got sticker shock from the prices, they may do quite well -- it seems like a great place for work parties and such -- where the company is footing the bill -- and it's right down the street from Intel.

I went today. If you can't say anything nice , dont' say it.....

I'll just stick with Lolita's , Sol Azteca, and occasional Mexquite.

We went the other evening and were pretty happy, though this is still not as good as Felipe's, as far as we are concerned. The staff was VERY attentive. We were unable to empty either the chips or our water glasses halfway before they were bringing us more. This is the best service we have experienced in some time. It appears that they brought in staff from their other restaurants as we had someone shadowing our waitress, who was very knowledgeable regarding the menu. I had the dos amigos (I think that's what it's called). This was a buritto, half of which was chile colorado and the other half chile verde. The portions were large and very tasty, with huge hunks of meat. The salsa was fine but, again, not on par with Felipe's. I wish I had known about the green sauce option, which I typically love. I was not bowled over by the price, but it was not cheap. I had no problem with what we paid relative to what we got. Mexquite is definitely more expensive. Overall, we would go back there but it's still only our second Mexican choice in Folsom.

Our family went the other day - food was decent. Our waitress was one of the worst we've ever had - we finally had to flag someone down to take our order. Mind you, at the time there were two other tables and really, more people working than customers and yet our waitress would not come take our order! She only checked on us once - we finally had to wave someone else to bring us our bill, take our bill and bring us a to go container. The busboy was fantastic - he made sure we had plenty of water, chips and salsa, but service beyond his attentiveness was terrible.

Food - middle of the road. The 2 for $20 is a good deal.
Service - horrible but being new, if the food had been fantastic, we'd have given them another shot, but the food was just okay. Not great but not bad either.

Steph77--Were you at Applebees or Casa Ramos (that is in the old Applebees)?
The reason I ask is I know that Applebees has the 2 for $20 special. However, this topic is about Casa Ramos. Does Casa Ramos also have a 2 for $20 special?

Casa Ramos. They have a 2 for $20 type special going on - you get an appetizer and 2 menu items (from 5 or 6 to choose from) for $20. That special is a great price...but for us, the service was abysmal - especially for how many people were working vs. customers in the restaurant.

Excellent!! We love Casa Ramos!! Have one in my hometown and love the one in Gold River! smile.gif

The Casa Ramos that moved into the old Applebees building is the same Casa Ramos that moved from Gold River. They didn't agree to the terms of the new lease so they moved to the new location. Management and a number of the staff moved with the restaurant.

We tried it tonight.

Pros:

--Love the decor -- bright and cheery, sunflowers are cool.
--Service is extremely attentive
--Chips were hot and delicious
--Owner was present and personally supervising operations.

Cons:

--Prices are high for a Mexican restaurant. Most basic entrees (e.g., burritos) are in the $11-$14 range. I believe that is higher than, say, Felipes, which I think is more like $8-10. Both Hubby and I were immediately struck by the prices.

--The Mariachi band was WAY too loud, with several strings and a TRUMPET. There is a reason most restaurants do not have trumpets playing 2 feet from a diner's table. The musicians were talented and fun, but the trumpet has to go.

--Food was average for a sit-down Mexican restaurant. Hubby said his chili Colorado burrito was mostly filled with refried beans. My chicken enchiladas were tasty, but the kids and I were all off-put by the beans on our plate, which had a different texture and color than at most places -- pale and almost pureed.

Quite honestly, if I wanted a burrito, I would probably save the $$ and go to Dos Coyotes, Fiesta, or the one by the movie theatres. If I wanted sit-down Mexican, I'd go to Felipes. So, while I hope this restaurant does all right, because it is clearly a nice family operation, I'm not sure it will have a place on our family's "regular" restaurant rotation.

Dos Coyotes = In the worst three places I have ever eaten in my life. I will never go back there.

I went to Casa Ramos on Friday and had a great meal. I did their two for $20 and the portions were just right. (Two meals and one appetizer to share). Everything was a little smaller than their standard portions but was quite filling.

We went Friday night also and really enjoyed it. Domingo, not our waiter, but assigned to our table for drinks and chips, was more attentive than the waiter, though the waiter was very good.

We'll be back.

Went there for dinner last night. I consider myself to be a mexican food conoisseur. This place was just ok. The salsa would be great if it had a little spice to it, it was very fresh and the chunks of onions and tomato were great. I think that it was completely devoid of jalapeno, however.

The chile relleno was pretty good, however the chili was a bit undercooked. The tamale was fairly standard...not bad but not great either. Rice and beans were fine, but again not spectacular.

All in all, food was expensive and just about par. Two adults (one beer, one soda) three kids meals (waters) came out to about $56.00 before tip. As stated in previous reviews, service from the bussers was great, server was ok.

I do not think I would go back. It wasn't that bad, there are just far superior choices.

Ugh $56 for a meal that would cost maybe $8 if cooked at home ? ridiculous -

Last night we had marinated Pork Tenderloin ( with left overs for later), Brown rice with spices and pineapple, Asparagus with almonds and toasted cheese bread - Cost per person - $3.85 Oh two bottles of 2 buck chuck wine and 3 beers- another $4 per person... and it was great !

They have a hotter, green one in the back. Gotta ask for it. I mix some of it in with the regular.

I think it was Norm who mentioned that he'll buy good steak or seafood or whatever you're in the mood for, pick up a bottle or two of wine, and cook a great meal at home.

The end result is that it's cheaper, tastes better, the service is better, there's no tipping, and you can drink the wine without worrying about driving.

I totally agree with your views on this restaurant.

I LOVE the salsa at Felipe's! And I think they have the best Mexican food here for the price!

My husband and I are VERY PICKY about our Mexican food and tried Casa Ramos, but were disappointed with the salsa and the chicken enchilada verde. Their beans were very good, but the prices did not reflect the quality of food we desired.

Service was very good and decor was pleasant, but the food does not beat Felipe's.....and no, I don't own or work at Felipe's.

We don't plan to go back to Casa Ramos. Felipe's is our favorite Mexican restaurant.

We went to lunch there the other day. It was $34 for 3 and the food was great. We liked the different menu options. Nice to have something different than the usual burritos, tacos and chimichangas for a change. We definitely will go back again!
