My husband and I had lunch there on Monday. Ed is so nice and the food is amazing! We usually share when we eat out (which was hard since we wanted to try everything!!) and Ed was nice enough to add a little extra Brisket to our lunch basket. Wow, what a find! We'll be back!

Oh, and he said he doesn't know who Deanna H is but he wants to kiss you on the cheek!!

Some of you may be aware that as of 3 months ago I became vegan/vegetarian.
Things have been going along very smoothly.
Until now.
I have fallen hard. And I blame it on Sierra Smokehouse.
Raised in the Bay Area by a chef father who LOVED his Q, I have fond memories of sitting at Everett and Jones in downtown Oakland, next my father who had invariably ordered the hottest sauce possible and was sweating like a ho in church. The guys behind the counter knew him by name and always laughed their a$$es off.
Fast forward to today and I have yet to find any really good Q in the local area. I have been to Sandra Dees which was good, but I wasn't crazy over the chicken. MacQues is pretty good too (LOVE the variety of sides!!) but both of these are too far away. Texas West was the WORST BBQ I have ever had. I have never had such disgustingly fatty bbq in my life. Seriously, the ratio of meat to fat was 1:10. Never again. Back Forty is pretty standard BBQ. Nothing to get really excited over. I have not been to Lucilles, and keep meaning to try it. Basically I have resigned myself to a lifetime of inferior BBQ.
Until now.
Sierra Smokehouse is everything you guys have been saying it is and more!! I have never had such tender fall off the bone bbq chicken!!!
My husband LOVED his beef and pork ribs.
I am a fallen woman, who now dreams of Cowboy Beans, Cornbread and Sierra Smokehouse BBQ Chicken...
DAMN YOU ED! ;-)

^^ EAH that was a great story!

Two guys from work were celebrating their birthdays today so 5 of us went to see Ed and the rib-a-licous BBQ. They arrived hungry but left with big smiles.

Let me first start by thanking Deanna H. for her presence and insight for bringing this (GOLD MINE OF BAR-B-QUE) to our collective reverance for what Real Bar-B-Que is really about , made by a master (Pit Boss) Ed. My friend took me to lunch there today and we had, as usual a fantastic lunch!! I also saw Mylo and some of his fellow co-workers eating lunch tofay.. 'cause he knows good food!!! hehe The place was getting busy and both my friend and I bought a full rack of ribs to munch on later on...

( THERE IS GOLD IN THEM THAR HILLS!!!) And it's called Sierra Smokehouse!!!!

Went Thur after hitting balls at Bass Lake (worked up an appetite for some good que). Got 2 racks and beans then made some sides at home...Mmmmm they were good. My Dad was visiting and loved them.

Don't think Ed would mind posting a secret sauce he has -- Habanero jelly. Awesome on the ribs and smoked (of course) meatloaf!

BTW, something really is screwy with this, now that I finally was able to post, it is normal going back an editting it. But when I tried to reply, it spread the page so far left and right, I had to use a scroll bar on the bottom travelling miles and miles left & right to find the buttons and stuff. Never could find my text I typed, I just guessed that I had put the cursor in the right spot.

Hmm, it seems if I use "quick edit" it's normal, but full editor takes me to the impossibly wide format, same as a reply in this particular sub-forum.

Anyway, just wanted to say, I hate my lunch I brought to work figuring this was kinda short notice and no one else was replying.

So is anyone game for Thursday or Friday this week?
I would rather be Backpacking

the quality of meats of their ribs were excellent as were their spices, special condiments and service...side dishes were below par...however, our major issue was having our ribs, chicken, pulled pork served COLD....there is nothing like HOT BBQ with the cooker blasting with aromatic flavors in the air...Evert/Jones (ala Oaktown), Dave's (San Diego), or Rudy's (San Anton, Tx) this is not...Sierra Smokehouse is NOT all that people have raved about..but there IS room for improvement...good luck and wish the owner well...it appears that he talks a better story than the food place on the table the evening we were there...
as for being return patrons.....hmmmm, questionable...let's give them 1 1/2* for effort..

I agree. We ordered a sampler. The brisket, ribs and beans were fantastic and worth going back for as takeout (we had chicken and another meat too, and they were fine, but not as goo as the brisket and ribs).

The rest of the sides were terrible. The corn was obviously from a can, weak iceberg lettuce salad with an envelope of dressing, corn bread from a bag.

The sides seem like an afterthought - and I think they would be better served by not offering the sides at all, instead of having embarrassing accompaniments to the yummy meat (and beans).

Who needs side dishes with meat like theirs...Everyone has their own opionion I guess. An overwhelming majority here have given positive reviews, so dont pooh pooh on our one and only diamond in the rough.

shouldn't this thread be merged with the longer existing one ?

Another great  day in the adventure of exploration and sight.
