Only available by reservation. Tue - Sat, 5pm - 9pm. Phone: 916.353.1938.

Are you saying it is always by reservation only?

If yes, how early must the reservations be made? Can I call at 5PM to make a reservation for 5:15 PM? (pending availability)

Would you consider the place kid friendly?

I'm getting the funny feeling this place might not be my cup of tea.

Is there an online menu?

Since it is a small location and the chef is very popular, reservations are booking the place up fast. I'd say for the first few months you'll may only be able to get in with a reservation (I already made mine for next week), but who knows. I'd say go for it and just call a little bit ahead and take a chance.... it'll probably work at least sometimes.

For kids it probably depends on how mature and well behaved a child is as to how they will be tolerated by the owners..... and fellow diners. From what I've seen, it's like a smaller version of Bidwell Street Bistro as far as style and ambiance go. The chef plans on cooking up traditional French cuisine, I don't think there will be a kids menu (but I'm just guessing).

I talked to him about a website, he really doesn't need one, nor does he need to do any advertising. Foodies from all over know of him and he should do well with all the recent free press everywhere. It's going to be nice having a new French Restaurant in town.
Here's the next best thing for online info about this place: http://www.yelp.com/...z-daniel-folsom . . . .

My child doesn't run around like a wild banshee or make loud obnoxious outbursts. He's kind of shy around strangers which makes him naturally well-behaved as he doesn't like to draw attention to himself.
He also prefers adult food, but it's nice if they offer smaller portions for smaller appetites.
But if the staff doesn't like children, I don't like being treated rudely because I brought my son. I've been to places where I could tell, they really didn't want my business if it meant my child was going to be with us. You can see it in their eyes and feel the tension when they talk. I won't go back to Mooney's ever again because of the way they treated my family. The waitress was more interested in yacking with her friends and waiting on other tables. I could see how she always turned around the other way to avoid facing our table. I felt very unwelcome and so I won't ever be back.

While I'm sure Chez Daniel will be wonderful food for those who chose to go. This 1 Post, brand new user both on YELP and here on the Folsom Forum with the exact same post and details is obviously an advertisement by the business. While that's ok, and I can go and see for myself, trying to mask such is a little annoying.

Folsom’s Newest Gem!

The three of us went to Chez Daniel, a new French restaurant in Folsom last Saturday, the 12 of November.
Advanced reservation required. Open: Tue - Sat, 5pm - 9pm.
Closed: Sunday & Monday.
Phone: 916.353.1938.

I had the Rack of Lamb Provençale. My two friends had Breast of Muscovy Duck with green peppercorn and Braised Rabbit, with rosemary and mustard sauce.
Every meal came with soup, salad and dessert for $30.00 or less. We had a choice of Vegetable Soup or French Onion Soup, and a Mixed Green Salad.
Our desserts were the Chef’s Surprise. We were given Creme Brûlée, Cream Caramel and Cherries Jubilee.

Along with serving amazing food, the staff of Chez Daniel was friendly and the service was outstanding.
“The atmosphere was great. It had a small, intimate feeling. The music was very gentle and soothing"... said Jean Haney, my guest.
At the end of our meals, Chef Daniel Pont and his wife, the hostess, conversed with all of the tables and made sure our comfort.

On a scale of 1-5 (5 being best), we rate Chez Daniel’s restaurant a 5+ for food, service and ambiance.

There were four owners of this location prior to Chef Pont that were not able to maintain a business. In the restaurant business, any location across from a Courthouse or City Hall in any city, will more than likely fail for a variety of reasons.
Not only is Chez Daniel across from City Hall, Chef Pont is only open for dinner, making his chances at survival slimmer.

However, despite these odds, I am certain that Chez Daniel will succeed. My prediction is that soon enough, Chef Pont will be booked solid 60 days in advanced. Not only is he a talented chef, he is also a wise businessman that possesses the unique quality to successfully run a restaurant regardless of his location and the current economic struggles.

Thank you for the wonderful time!

Interesting, yes, I think that is bad form to "pretend" you are a real review when it isn't. It turns me off to think they would resort to deceptive tactics to "advertise".
Makes me wonder what else they would do.

It's also possible the poster is a huge fan who wants to make sure the restaurant succeeds, finally found a reason to join MyFolsom, and copied and pasted the review to Yelp rather than rewrite it.

How is that obvious? Especially if you are at all familiar with this chef/owner. It looks like a typical MyFolsom/Yelp comment to me.

Quotes, phone number, advance reservation required... First post. Looks fishy.

Unfortunate. I don't think it was entirely necessary.

It was a first time poster with complete and thorough policy details both here and Yelp. It's clearly from the business. Both places it was the first reviewer, first post, and FULL and complete Business details.

Obvious is Obvious....

Unfortunate. I don't think it was entirely necessary.

I agree John.

I am sorry for the long delay on Chez Daniel. I have been visiting Daniel every week since I found out he was coming to Folsom, he is truly a very good man, with an abundance of food knowlege and business sense. Just for a brief rundown on the physical layout, there are 8 rables seating 4 per table... modest by most standards, but he states it is a cozy french bistro. Here is a copy of the menu that I copied from an origionl menu:
All meals are a 4 course affair. Soupe, salad, entre and desert. here we go

Breast of chicken w/raspberry vinegerette sauce - 24.00

Pork tenderloin w/apples and cider - 25.00
Fresh salmon poached in court bouillonn - 25.00
Braised rabbit, rosemary & mustard sauce - 28.00
New York steak w/carmelized onion and red wine reduction - 28.00
Prawns & lobster w/lobster cognac sauce - 28.00
Breast of muscovy duck w/green peppercorn sauce - 28.50
Beef tenderloin w/rockford & maderia wine sauce - 29.00
Rack of lamb provencale - 30.00

I question most Yelp comments, many sound like self promotion. I also question some of the nasty comments, many sound like a competitor trying to slime their competition.
