Today has been a nice one, eh?  I was going to post something about bike-to-work-day but it seems kind of pointless now.

 

As long as you stop at all the stop signs and obey all the rules of the road post away!

I was going to point out how motorists seem confused and always wave you through and then seem peeved at having to wait for you when you DO stop at a sign.  But it would have been lost in all the lovely nasty rumors.

John - I'd like to see a monthly email recap, digest, newsletter or other reach-out feature to get people reminded and involved. I'd be glad to help.

That's a good idea, Steve.

 

In a newsletter, you could always have rankings, too, for most posts, etc. Hell, seeing that yearbooks just came out, you could almost put together a yearbook type thing (best-looking: ME (insert smiley face so you know I'm not serious), you know, that type of thing). Anyone notice the parentheses within a parentheses? Yep, I went there.

Another vote for more local stuff. You used to be able to come here and learn more about Folsom. I used to count on restaurant recommendations, stores, events (really could use more on the events side, especially with summer upcoming).

 

As of now, I go to Yelp for recommendations. I'd rather use MyFolsom for Folsom specific info. We don't leave the Folsom/ EDH bubble if we don't have to, so more local info would be great.

 

Also agreed that posters used to be more positive (early 2000s) as opposed to argumentative.

John, I haven't been here much as I've been wrapped up with my own developments. I've got the same setup on my sites (Wordpress & IPB). I'm just about to release a redesign and recode actually. I'm not sure what's happening with yours here, I haven't gone through it but feel free to PM me if you'd like any of my opinions.

 

I can say just by reading this thread that I think ditching wordpress is a HUGE mistake unless your planning on integrating with IPB completely. 

 

If you still don't have a mobile app then you need to get signed up for the new BYO TapaTalk yesterday. They have changed the pricing and it's only like $30 per month for a customized app that runs iPhone, iPad, Droid, Kindle, you name it. They are also adding Wordpress integration into the app now which is in Beta so if you fix your Wordpress homepage you can have the blog and forum included in your app. If you want to check out a customized app then I'd be happy to set you up a forum account of ours so you can download our free app and take a glance. The app store app is actually based on the TapaTalk 1 though and TapaTalk 2 BYO apps are in Beta and what I'm using on my own phone which is really pretty awesome (I can give you private access of that to check out if you like as well).

I can tell you that pretty much every member I have DEMANDS an app or they simply don't bother. Web apps like IPB keep boasting about doing in the next release just don't matter to people.

Anyways, I'm just saying... feel free to PM me anytime. I could run my mouth on plenty of other ideas to help I'm sure...LOL.

Not sure why we'd need an app, both Wordpress and IPB have mobile versioning. I had an app a few years ago, but I was really paying for a glorified icon on your phone. I'd love to keep Wordpress but it's directly related to the spam problem. I do plan on integrating completely to IPB... PM me, I would love to pick your brain.

you mean the front page? I have been slacking lately on blogging. I am always looking for an extra hand if people are interested.

As for the forums, things have been slow for sure. A lot of the regulars seem to have left, for a variety of reasons. We're always looking for ideas to evolve the site, so if you have thoughts on what we could do, we're listening! No ideas are too outlandish.

I used to post here a lot a while back... but got real irked when Steve Heard eliminated a photo that showed Obama and Hugo Chavez doing the 1st bump... in his opinion, he didn't think it was "appropriate"...

 

so I can do much of what I want to do on Facebook, Twitter... SacBee online... etc...and not have to worry about a modertor wanting to change my posts because he thinks I'm insulting the 1st black president...

 

I do come on here from time to time to see what's new that I don't know about but as you know I rarely post anything anymore...

 

I do like the new look though and I think I have you on my on blog site.. not sure.. anyway... keep up the good work..

by the way... what do you think of this guy now with all the stinking corruption... if you were honest about your political views, you'd have to say this guy is the worst president we've at least in my lifetime... he's making Jimmy carter look competant and Richard Nixon honest in comparison...

 

I don't hear or see you saying nothing about this guy now...  not one stinking bad thing... oh yea... I did see you post something a while back about the fact it was no big deal about the real estate tax they are going to lay on because of Obama care...

As for the real estate tax, that's a misrepresentation of what I said. Two different people posted what was at best a gross misunderstanding of the new law, claiming that there was a new 3.8% tax on all real estate sales. They cited an example that of a someone selling their home for $400,000 resulting in a $15,200 tax. 

 

I pointed out that there is a new 3.8% tax on investment income of people categorized as high-wage earners, and that the sale of a primary residence has at least a $250,000 exclusion for individuals and $500,000 for couples. 

 

There are plenty of websites debunking the claim. One can say that no tax is welcome and the President is terrible, but no one will pay $15K if they sell their residence and there is no new 3.8% tax on real estate sales.
