Now if we can only get rid of all those white Christian terrorists....  I sure hope no Christian church gets built around here, the timing just isn't right for all those who lost loved ones in Oklahoma...

i was just about to bring this up, good call

honestly, i read this thread for the first time just now and i am feeling nothing but shame and embarrasment that folsom is my home. to come out here and babble on with ridiculous stereotypes and fears just bleeds ignorance. i know nothing i can say will influence the ignorants, but i just had to express my disgust. some of you truly make me sick

love everyone (unless they're not like you)
is that how the phrase goes?

QUOTE(Farley @ Jul 5 2005, 04:16 PM)
Part of the Islamic faith:

The Prophet said:

'A man walking along a path felt very thirsty. Reaching a well he descended into it, drank his fill and came up. Then he saw a dog with its tongue hanging out, trying to lick up mud to quench its thirst. The man saw that the dog was feeling the same thirst as he had felt so he went down into the well again and filled his shoe with water and gave the dog a drink. God forgave his sins for this action.' The Prophet was asked: 'Messenger of God, are we rewarded for kindness towards animals?' He said, 'There is a reward for kindness to every living thing.'

At least that settles the issue of whether or not it's right to break a car window to rescue a trapped dog in a hot Lowe's parking lot.

Oh wait. Wrong thread. whistle.gif

All should remember the Williams brothers from Redding, CA and their actions in summer of 1999.

As investigators try to piece together motives for the murder of a gay couple in Redding, California, and the torching of three synagogues in Sacramento, evidence points to Benjamin Matthew Williams, a former student at the University of Idaho, and his younger brother James Tyler Williams. The Williams brothers were arrested on July 7 for possession of a credit card and other property belonging to one of the slain gay men. The Sacramento Bee reported that the FBI had "compiled substantial physical evidence" linking the brothers to the synagogue fires as well.

Organized bigotry may have been the motive for the crimes. According to friends and media reports, Matthew Williams was an adherent of hard-core racism, anti-Semitism, and homophobia intrinsic to the Christian Identity theology. After a bitter departure from a fundamentalist church in Moscow, Idaho, in 1995, Williams became a fervent believer in the anti-tax movement, eventually turning to far-right racist teachings and apocalyptic conspiracy theories. He reportedly mailed racist literature to friends. Recently he became distraught upon learning that a close friend was gay.

When the brothers were arrested, they were both heavily armed, and authorities found a large collection of hate literature, including material from the World Church of the Creator, in their home. Matthew and Tyler Williams have each been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in addition to lesser counts of burglary, and could face the death penalty if convicted.

However, Matthew committed suicide in prison.

"Ugh" all the way around to this thread.

For those that don't respond to it, I can say that maybe some feelings run too deep to post on a thread like this. I don't want to engage on this one, but that doesn't mean I don't have VERY passionate views on this (Not to speak for others, but I can safely say there are some that probably feel the same way).

For those of you that think this thread is too hot.... I'm sorry...

but you have to face the facts and if the facts speak the truth... that doesn't change them just because you have some preconceived notion that anything Bush does is bad or anything Muslim is good or that any society is just as good as ours...when the opposite is true...

There are those of us that think Muslims in this country need to reach out to us... not the other way around....

After all it was 19 out of 19 Muslim men who slit the throats of a stewardess or two, hijacked 4 airplanes and killed over 3,000 of our people on a beautiful Tuesday morning, September 11, 2001....

I won't soon forget that....

Don't you think they should seek our forgiveness and understanding rather than the other way around... Shouldn't they prove to us that they are loyal Americans and try to "assimilate" into "our culture" versus the other way around....?

Is that "bigotry"....?

Get back to me on that one.....

I'm not sure I understand what you're proposing, and maybeyou can elaborate on this last comment of yours.

When you talk about assimilating, in the context of building a mosque, do you mean that they should convert to Christianity to prove they are "loyal Americans"?

That would be a tall order for anyone (ask any of the Pilgrims). And if someone converted to my religion just to be "neighborly" or "patriotic", then I'd not only question their faith and motivations, but I think it would cheapen my religion if it had to resort to such cooercion to get parishoners. It would stop being a faith and start being a political party at that point.

The problem is, from my perspective, is that there is a small but fanatical group within Islam, which adheres to an archaec fundamentalist view of the Quran. I say their numbers are small, but in reality, 1% equals over a million people.

These fundamentalists are responsible for much of the terror in the world. They take to heart passages from the Quran, such as these:

"Slay them wherever you find them...Idolatry is worse than carnage...Fight against them until idolatry is no more and God's religion reigns supreme." (Surah 2:190-)

"Fighting is obligatory for you, much as you dislike it." (Surah 2:216)

"Men are tempted [in this life] by the lure of women...far better is the return of God. Say: 'Shall I tell you of better things than these, with which the righteous shall be rewarded by their Lord? Theirs shall be gardens watered by running streams, where they shall dwell for ever: wives of perfect chastity..." (Surah 3:14, 15)

"The only true faith in God's sight is Islam." (Surah 3:19)

"Believers, do not make friends with any but your own people...They desire nothing but your ruin....You believe in the entire Book...When they meet you they say: 'We, too, are believers.' But when alone, they bite their finger-tips with rage." (Surah 3:118, 119)

"If you should die or be slain in the cause of God, His forgiveness and His mercy would surely be better than all the riches..." (Surah 3:156-)

"Seek out your enemies relentlessly." (Surah 4:103-)

"The Jews and Christians say: 'We are the children of God and His loved ones.' Say: 'Why then does He punish you for your sins?" (Surah 5:18)

"Believers, take neither Jews nor Christians for your friends." (Surah 5:51) "The God will say: 'Jesus, son of Mary, did you ever say to mankind 'Worship me and my mother as gods besides God?' 'Glory to You, 'he will answer, 'how could I ever say that to which I have no right?" (Surah 5:114-)

"Believers, when you encounter the infidels on the march, do not turn your backs to them in flight. If anyone on that day turns his back to them, except it be for tactical reasons...he shall incur the wrath of God and heck shall be his home..." (Surah 8:12-)

"Make war on them until idolatry shall cease and God's religion shall reign supreme." (Surah 8:36-)

"If you fear treachery from any of your allies, you may fairly retaliate by breaking off your treaty with them." (Surah 8:51-) "...make war on the leaders of unbelief...Make war on them: God will chastise them at your hands and humble them. He will grant you victory over them..." (Surah 9:12-)

"Fight against such as those to whom the Scriptures were given [Jews and Christians]...until they pay tribute out of hand and are utterly subdued." (Surah 9:27-)

"It is He who has sent forth His apostle with guidance and the true Faith [Islam] to make it triumphant over all religions, however much the idolaters [non-Muslims] may dislike it." (Surah 9:31-)

"If you do not fight, He will punish you sternly, and replace you by other men." (Surah 9:37-)

"Prophet make war on the unbelievers and the hypocrites and deal rigorously with them. heck shall be their home." (Surah 9:73)

"Believers, make war on the infidels who dwell around you. Deal firmly with them." (Surah 9:121-)

"Muhammad is God's apostle. Those who follow him are ruthless to the unbelievers but merciful to one another." (Surah 48:29)

"Shall the reward of goodness be anything but good?...Dark-eyed virgins sheltered in their tents...They shall recline on green cushions and fine carpets...Blessed be the name of your Lord..." (Surah 55:52-66-)

I am not opposed to the building of the mosque in Folsom. I know a few muslims. Have a couple in the family. One of my oldest friends is a strict muslim. These folks are just like you and me, except they go to their place of worship on Fridays. They want what we want, freedom, enough money to pay the bills, to wathc their kids grow, and to retire in relative comfort.

I have fears, however, that that fundamentalists, however few, will preach their hate at the new mosque, and demand that fellow muslims do what the book says, and attack us infidels.

Are my fears unfounded?

Considering the fundamentalist of various faiths in this country- I would worry more about the Christian RIGHT more than those muslims that may attend services in Folsom -
They are already here - and this is but a permanent home for them with the building of this Mosque
Plus I would think a domed Mosque with the 70ft miranet would be a cool addition -
Just as long as they dont have loudspeakers outside....

Not that I value a word that you say- even when you dont say anything..
I know the truth is there- as the Right wing Christian funamentalist have a far greater current impact on our political and business base than the Mulims could ever wish for.

Care for some examples ?/
Go look them up - they are everywhere since Bushco made his bed with their votes...

Yes, I think your fears are unfounded. I have fears just the reverse of yours. I fear the fundamentalist Christians, still so narrow and judgmental, will direct their negative energy toward the new mosque and muslim church goers. Let's just see how many times the construction site is vandalized, etc.

I mentioned the Williams brothers in an earlier post. It will only take one or two to turn this situation into an "us" against "them" city. Actually that is usually the tenor of many of the threads on this forum.

hey look who's back! and as your usual self - been on vacation?

just for the record, I fear all fanatical religious nuts...muslims and extreme christians alike

however, I do believe everyone has their right to their beliefs and I could never be opposed to any type of religious building being built but I gotta admit, the muslim stuff scares me a bit, especially with all I heard that went down in Lodi

...and after reading Steve's post with the quotes....seems to me its teaching hate more then anything else.

You're right, Dave...now if we can just teach the brain-washed, PC few on this board, then we'll be OK....if they're in Lodi, they can be in Folsom...

As far as I could tell from the Bee article on the mosque, the muslim community here in Folsom is mainly Intel employees and their families.

I don't need to remind you how scary and radical those Intel people are (ducking) whistle.gif
