So government now revolves around what you can or can't afford?  There are families that can't afford a computer or video games.  What of them?

Anyway, that's not the point.  The point is why stop at a gym?  You probably can't afford to build a dance club for kids either and that too would keep them off the streets.

BTW, If you can afford a computer and video games, you can afford a membership to a gym.

Computers are at the Library and kids really shouldn't be playing video games. The dance club could be held in the gym! Who said I wanted to join a Gym I said I think there needs to be a place for games like inside basketball, volleyball, badminton and those type of things. Do you like the outside baseball fields, soccer fields, why do those sports get chosen over the others that could use a gym?

I'm not arguing whether there needs to be a gym or not in Folsom. I'm arguing whether it is something that should be paid for with taxpayer dollars.

There is an indoor place in Folsom for basketball, volleyball, etc. (even indoor soccer) it's called the Sports Complex.

If the objective is to keep the kids active, off the streets and out of trouble, then any concerned parents should involve their kids in activities at the complex. If they can't afford it, then they should look for other activities to get their kids involved in.

I started working part-time when I was 11yr old. That kept me out of trouble and off the streets - that is, until I became a teenager.... smile.gif

But what I am saying is that these other parks are paid for by taxes, why not a gym too. Why is one ok and not the other?

Ok, maybe now that I know more about Folsom, I think I have changed my mind. A gym would be nice but there are other things that need help first.

Its been interesting to read the posts on this topic since I started it a number of months ago. You have those like me who are opposed to Government being all things to everybody at taxpayer's expense. Then you have those who believe that Government should provide for everyone at taxpayer's expense. Yet .. the people who believe that Government should provide for everyone don't seem to know where to draw the line where the Government should stop providing. These same people are also least likely to reach into their own pockets first to kickstart the construction of frills like a City Gym. They want us all to pay for their "entertainment"!

I think the government should do much LESS. Taxes go down, and opportunities to serve in the community go up...(a lot of other things happen, too, but I would need to attach an audio file to this post to get them all out smile.gif) That's my opinion.

Lets face it  they are never going to give the taxes back to us and the property taxes and such are high here. There are the baseball fields, the aquatic center  and other parks, I think it would be nice to have the gym so other sports can be played too.  A public gym that is open to everyone without having to join and pay a huge price.  Indoor basketball, volleyball, table tennis and badminton,etc.. are all good winter games that need a big gym. I think a gym is a better use of our money than some of the stuff they spend it on! (which is a whole different subject) banghead.gif

HI,

Is there anywhere in Folsom where one can play badminton? My husband and I would really like to play, but do not know where? Do any of the school gyms allow or are there any clubs or groups of people that have found a place to play?

would really like to know,

thanks,
