As they say, there's no such thing as bad publicity.

All of the comments about the nasty people of Folsom, and  eek.gif Heaven Forbid! CONSERVATIVES!!  The store is not being welcomed by residents, businesses and community leaders!  Why don't they just take the store elsewhere then?  Go somewhere that embraces the shop.  There's no need to insult the residents and community and then implant yourself where you might not be wanted.  That just doesn't make good business sense.

This is not a case of the people of Folsom not wanting a lingerie shop. It is the case of one person starting rumors about the shop, accusing the owners of perversion, and getting community members upset about it.

In the end, the rumors were proven untrue, so the citizens who didn't want the shop there were mislead.

I suppose if people in the community don't want blacks, Asians, gays, Democrats, Jews, Muslims, Christians or any other group, they should just go elsewhere.

That's not what this country is supposed to be about. This is a matter of right and wrong.

You cannot really compare a type of business to an ethnic class of people! Ms. Teaz has begun to attack the people who disagree with the operation of their type of business in that particular location.

My point is that if they don't like to have the people of Folsom disagree with their operation, then they should move it elsewhere. Qwitcherbichin and move on to a place where they'll be accepted and loved.

It's a venture for money. The people who are opposed have no intent to put down or exclude any sort of person or group of people from the community, and it is a stretch to equate the two. Communities have a right to determine what sort of businesses are operated in what areas of their community. Now, if I were to say that only an Asian person could operate Ms. Teaz, and I want those white folks out, that would be an entirely different story. The opponents are not discriminating -- they don't want ANYONE to operate that back-room business in that location.

Whine, whine, whine thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif . Poor us! People don't love what we do here. We're going to do what we can to force them to like the same things we do. sleeping.gif

Yes, the community does have the right, and it has been determined that Ms. Teaz is following the law. That's not good enough for some. It's not enough to be lawful.

The owners aren't attacking anyone, they are simply revealing what hasn't come out in the press; that they were unceremoniously tossed out of the Folsom Chamber of Commerce, and that a reporter may have been terminated for his views on the story.

I think that it's sad that anyone got their feelings hurt over something so simple as opening a store. Here is the bottom-line:

*Open your lingerie shop.
*Keep the storefront/windows clear of what may be offensive.
*Take precautions to ensure children aren't allowed to see/purchase things that they shouldn't.

Pretty simple.

(In the ideal world, there wouldn't be any shops like this. But, alas, we live in a world of "equal opportunity, your rights = no rights, etc.")

You can't make us like it if we don't. B*$%(ing at us for being mean and hateful doesn't make it any different.

What do the Folsom residents think of the Ms Teaz sign that fronts historic Sutter Street? I think they should exercise their 1st Amendment rights in freedom of expression and have the silhouette on her back with her legs spread eagle in the air. Who cares any way? It's just an image and for all we know it can be construed as her doing some jazzercise routine. Do they sell leotards and leg warmers?

tessieca,

I live in Folsom, and last I heard that makes me a resident. Please be sure to clarify when stating the opinion of Folsom residents that you really just mean "you and your friends"

It definately appears that Ms Teaz is a BIG hit. I've seen and heard that they are visited by an average of 50-100+ customers per day. I was fortunate enough to hear Mrs. Dufour speak on 1240AM talk radio last night, and I've heard only GREAT things about this couple. It does appear that people such as "tessieca" do fall into what the talk show defined as "no sex" never happy people who wish to impose their unhappiness on others. Every caller was extremely supportive of the new shop.

By the way - I too am a life-long resident of Folsom as are many of my friends. We all support and welcome the new business.

I've also noticed there was a post in the past (see the following) which had to have been issued by Jerry or Dan to cause trouble for this couple. From everything I've seen over the years. Without a doubt this city is run by a very select few who have too much power which has gone uncheck until now. Everyong knows that there is no drug enforcement in our city. Just call the city police dept and ask if this is so. Folsom is one of the best places for drug traffic in the Sacto Valley. What is our city doing about this? Nothing. What are we doing? Allowing them get away with such things, and many just continue to sit and thing all is okay. Get a clue people!

===================
Posting on this forum concerning the so call porn shop prior to city council's meeting to address the city ordinance as defined by our city dictators:

Help Stop a Porn Shop in Folsom! - Please Forward

If you've ever been to Sutter Street, in Old Town Folsom, you've probably enjoyed the nostalgia of California's gold rush days. You've probably also appreciated the down-to-earth family values of Folsom. Sutter Street is the type of place that families like to take their children for an outing. It's a street lined with dollhouses and ice cream shops.

Well, pretty soon the ambiance of Sutter Street is going to change – unless the citizens of Folsom rally to make a difference. An adult shop is opening, smack dab in the middle of Sutter Street, called "Ms. Teaz." The owners of Ms. Teaz would like you to think that it's simply an "upscale lingerie shop." This is not the case, however. The owners of Ms. Teaz plan to sell a wide array of adult paraphernalia, including pornographic books and videos. The shop wants to stay open until 1 a.m.

Concerned citizens and business owners are starting to come out and express their opposition to a porn shop moving into family-friendly Folsom. Will you join them? Folsom needs your help! If you either live or shop in Folsom, it's important for you to let your voice be heard. There is an initial City Council meeting tomorrow night. If you are able to make it, your attendance will make a difference.

What: Folsom City Council Meeting on Porn Shop
Date: Tuesday, October 26, 2004
Time: 6:30 PM
Location: Folsom City Hall, 50 Natoma Street, Folsom, California

When an adult business moves into a community, there's a host of other things that move in with it. Adult businesses bring a completely different type of crowd to a town. Incidences of loitering and indecent exposure, for instance, are known to drastically rise when these types of businesses move in. Aside from these practical considerations, children should simply not be exposed to these types of shops. Period. Even if certain paraphernalia is kept in a back room, behind a curtain, these items will still be brought out to purchase.

The message we want to convey to the Folsom City Council is this: "We're not so concerned with what people do in their bedroom, but we are concerned with what they do on Sutter Street."

If you live in Folsom, or shop in Folsom, please take a moment to visit this Web site recently constructed to combat the Ms. Teaz shop: www.folsomfamilyvalues.org.

Updates and more information will be placed on this Web site within a few weeks. So please check back with us! We hope to put printable flyers on this Web site and post a petition for people to sign and circulate asking the City Council to change their ordinance allowing for this type of adult shop.

Capitol Resource Institute is working closely with members of the Folsom Chamber of Commerce to help keep Ms. Teaz, or any other business establishment like it, from coming to Folsom. Thank you for your help! Voter Information

Why would you post something like this? What do you know about tessieca, or about anyone on this forum for that matter? I see that you oppose drug dealing. I suppose, then, that drug dealers would be justified in calling you a never happy person who wishes to impose your unhappiness on others. Or do you oppose driving while under the influence? Then you must be a "no drinks" never happy person ... Ridiculous, right? How about sexually explicit programming and nudity on network television during prime time when kids are watching? I guess anyone who opposes that would have to be another of your "no sex" never happy people.

I happen to be one of the people who did not want Ms. Teaz to open and who felt comfortable expressing my constitutionally protected opinion about it on this forum. Now that it is open, you won't see me down there throwing rocks through the window or using threats or anything else to try and drive them out. But you won't see me shopping there, either. And yet (gasp), I am a happily married man who is still very much in love with my wife, and am very happy to boot. Go figure!
