We don't need the train.... Open it for bikes, running and walking...

come on Cal... you really against the train...
you would get more use out of it... and if I remember most of the opposition is from folks that have property up against the right of way... another stinking NIMBY thang...

EDF, it is like a lot of other things here in Folsom. They will not pay for themselves from the money they take in. Just another expense for the tax payers to pay for, for just the few that will use it...
Just my opinion...

A train to P-ville would be very cool!! I don't care how much it costs in extra taxes... I really believe in the "IF YOU BUILD IT THEY WILL USE IT!" theory! The train from here to downtown gets used! And it will help get more people off of the road!!
I vote YES to the TRAIN TO P-VILLE!!!!

A train to P-Ville sounds great, but I agree it also sounds quite costly. I have to ask-wouldn't it be wiser to send set up a fundraising campaign to open up more bus routes with-in Folsom rather than a train that goes out of town?
Don't get me wrong--I love history and I would love to see Folsom capitalize on their history to help keep the "quaint" yet still liveable kinda feel.
Honestly I think we need to start preparing for the fact that the Sacramento region is going to be the next great BayArea. I seriously think that transportation is the greatest obstacle we are going to have to overcome.

I don't think it would necessarily pay for itself directly in ridership ticket sales, but as a regional attraction I would hope the proposals would include estimates for increased tax revenue from tourism. You could just imagine the extra local spend of this thing starting/ending in old town.

If I'm going to choose between tax payer dollars to use... I would cancel the Folsom bus line that I kno no one rides... so what is the subsidy there...
They could make this a neat wine train kind of ride... it might pay for itself.. haven't seen the numbers on it... but it's been around for a while... be kind of neat to have it leave from the old turn table huh...

EDF, if they turned it into a Wine Train type of thing it might make a go of it. I would even thy that...
The Wine Train near NAPA does OK, I think. My wife and I went on it and really enjoyed it...

All the proposals I've seen have used the term 'excursion' train. Some have mentioned wine, dinners, shows (murder mystery style). The general idea is it's a tourist activity. I don't think many believe it would be a viable self-sufficient transportation/commute alternative.

Why not just use the old rail corridor to extend the light rail all the way to Placerville? Then the thugs can terrorize Eldorado Hills instead of Folsom.

I've been told the City of Folsom has to have some sort of public transportation system to be eligible to recieve funds for road projects.
Lets evaluate this concept, The government subsidizes our public transportation system that nobody rides, then this makes us eligible to get tax dollars to build more roads that discourage more people from using public transportation.
Anyone want to venture a guess on what side of the political aisle is promoting this?

Frankly I'll go with D) all of the above.
It takes one idiot to complain and refuse to vote for a bill until it is 'compromised' to the point where no one really gets what they want and everyone gets what they don't want.
Beaurocracy sets the stage for crap laws hastily written. 'coarse no one wants to think about the alternatives.
