Actually, Robert, The Memphis Grizzlies paid a total of $0 for the arena.

Cv,

Why not share with everyone how the Arena was funded and what the lease arrangements are for everyone using the Arena? Who gets the revenue from naming rights? Who gets the revenue from concessions? From parking?

Lets look at the whole picture rather than selecting bits and pieces to support a position....let the politicians play those games.

But that's exactly what you do. Your two major arguments are that it (might) impact the poor and that you don't trust the BOS based on the library debacle.

To me, it seems like you are the one who is blind to the whole picture.

CV, we sure didn't need that long winded item in two different areas...

Cmon CV, wether you think I'm blind or not.... is not important and not the issue.

If Memphis has this successful model on how to build an Arena and all the benefits it brings....lets look at HOW they financed the building of the Arena and the lease arrangements and do that here in Sacramento.

Your not opposed to successful ventures are you?

The trouble, Robert, is that as you know, building in CA is vastly different than building in Tennessee. As such, the same model is not likely to be directly applicable.

Great article on the successes new arenas have brought Indianapolis and Memphis.

Whole article is here as Sacbee requires registration:

Arena debate: 2 cities enjoy vibrant scene
In Indianapolis and Memphis, palaces for sport energize downtown fortunes.
By Terri Hardy and Mary Lynne Vellinga - Bee Staff Writers

Last Updated 7:36 am PDT Monday, September 25, 2006
Story appeared in MAIN NEWS section, Page A1

I guess the political pressure finally got through to the Sac Bee. There is not one iota of fact in this story that compares redevelopment with and without a taxpayer subsidized sports team. It is a feature piece with nothing but opinion. No objective facts whatsoever, on either side. If they want a 'news' article, they should compare two redevelopment 'success' stories - one with a heavily taxpayer subsidized sports team as anchor and one with something else as anchor. Fluff.

Those people that do not think that a sports franchise brings a sense of civic pride should have watched the Saints - Falcons game tonight.

Just amazing!

I just CANNOT support these 2 measures.
Unknown Sales Tax agenda BEYOND the hype of the arena.
More taxes for "unknown" projects to "be identified" in the future............
You know what that means. Another TAX that will never go away, and probably be used for some obscure idea that mainstream folks don't agree with.
Vote NO ! thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif

R.E. Grasswich reports in the Sac Bee on 9-25, that Sacramento city officials are quietly working up contingency plans, in case the voters turn down raising taxes for the arena.

"This sort of talk is very sensitive right now, obviously," said Sacramento City Councilman Steve Cohn.

The article indicates the new arena under Plan B could be built privately.

OMG what is the world coming too? Building new Arena WITHOUT RAISING SALES TAXES, can this be legal?

Just because they do this in Kansas City, Memphis and Indianapolis doesn't mean they can do it here!

The nerve of some forward thinking politicians....NOT asking for a tax increase!

Cv,

Did you see that article in yesterdays Bee by Grasswich about the Arena '' Plan B" secret talks. Looks like Sac City officials are planning to build an Arena without raising sales taxes.

Why not help them get their wish and save your tax dollars and vote NO on these measures? You can use the dollars that wouldn't taken from you from this tax to go to the new Arena along with everyone else!

They needed that. Maybe Sacramento will be happy if they have an arena to reopen after the city is flooded out.
