We went a couple of weeks ago...my wife had the salmon, I had the ahi. Both entrees were great, and the service was great as well. Maybe they worked out the kinks.

Getting back on topic...

I think the Malabar Folsom location is just bad. Quick food is better in that area, IMO. More of a "lunch" area. So many international Intel employees in that area and Malabar apparently does not appeal to them. If Malabar was over in a busier traffic area near Broadstone or Palladio, it would have more crowds and more energy. That's just my "take". I'm guessing Malabar Folsom will not be open a year from now.

We went to Malabar for our Christmas eve dinner. Service was great. Food was good. It was loud and we had a baby and toddlers near us. which didn't help. They had a decent childrens menu. Overall, I'd say we had a good dinner. I don't think we'd go back anytime soon though. I'd rather eat at Strings or La Fiesta.

I'm sorry to see GoodFellas gone. He worked hard to make that place work.

Just finished catching up on some of the posts. I've been away for quite some time. It's nice to see the oldies as Moderators now. I remember when this online community just got started.

To get back to the topic at hand, I had a good dinner the last time I went to Malabar. The wait was a little long...but I had no where to go, so I enjoyed my wine and conversation.

I agree with GoodFellas that our comments can directly affect the small businesses in town. In fact, there was a nasty rumor going around that Macaroni Grill was closing, so we scheduled a party for the Elk Grove location instead of here in Folsom. I spoke with the Elk Grove manager and she said that Macaroni Grill closed ONE restaurant in the Arden area and that was it. They have no plans to close any other restaurants in the area. However, the local news stated they were closing all of their restaurants. That second sound bite had an enormous effect on Macaroni Grill. They lost 20% of their normal revenue by the bad press. Fortunately, they were able to get a retraction but the rumor is still being spread. It's sad that I see a lot of businesses closing down in town. These are hard working small business owners and they sure deserve some gratitude for chosing Folsom as place to provide their services and products. In closing, I'm sorry to see GoodFellas, Carvel, Java Nation, Fish & Chips and Romano's close. God bless them all for trying to make it work here in Folsom.

My last and only experience with good fellows was pretty poor to say the least. My wife ordered spaghetti which was obviously cooked earlier and reheated leaving it pretty mushy. The order came on a double layer of paper plates and one of those plastic things they put under paper plates to add strength. Well the paper plates became so saturated from the pasta, which I can only guess was poorly drained after reheating, that the Prego sauce somehow was able to leak and get on my wife's pants. I ordered a salad that was almost entirely comprised of soggy wet iceberg lettuce but after a good draining it was edible unlike my wife's pasta. To this day I regret not complaining as I am typically a pretty mellow person and didn't want to complain at the time. But good fellas not surprisingly has gone out of business since then and my rant is pretty much a moot point. Back on topic, I might have to give either malabar or scott's seafood a try for my 3rd anniversary.

I like Malabar. The food is pretty decent, and they've got a great Happy Hour (good deals on appetizers, tacos and drinks).

Maybe people should try different places to see if they are missing anything, but I don't believe people need to patronize any restaurant out of pity or to only delay the inevitable. Restaurants will fail or survive based on how much it appeals to visitors.

I've never been to that place and I will say it's soley based on the reviews here. Overpriced food and liquor with poor service seems to be the norm for this place. Also sounds like they were understaffed for a Monday night, maybe everybody was out watching the MNF game. What also bugs me about the place is that you have to park in the back and walk around to the front to get in because it faces Prairie City. Looks odd to me.

Yep, that's pretty much my assessment. Better service at the one by Arco, but same mediocre food....
