I think the Malabar Folsom location is just bad. Quick food is better in that area, IMO. More of a "lunch" area. So many international Intel employees in that area and Malabar apparently does not appeal to them. If Malabar was over in a busier traffic area near Broadstone or Palladio, it would have more crowds and more energy. That's just my "take". I'm guessing Malabar Folsom will not be open a year from now.

We went to Malabar for our Christmas eve dinner. Service was great. Food was good. It was loud and we had a baby and toddlers near us. which didn't help. They had a decent childrens menu. Overall, I'd say we had a good dinner. I don't think we'd go back anytime soon though. I'd rather eat at Strings or La Fiesta.

Just finished catching up on some of the posts. I've been away for quite some time. It's nice to see the oldies as Moderators now. I remember when this online community just got started.
To get back to the topic at hand, I had a good dinner the last time I went to Malabar. The wait was a little long...but I had no where to go, so I enjoyed my wine and conversation.
I agree with GoodFellas that our comments can directly affect the small businesses in town. In fact, there was a nasty rumor going around that Macaroni Grill was closing, so we scheduled a party for the Elk Grove location instead of here in Folsom. I spoke with the Elk Grove manager and she said that Macaroni Grill closed ONE restaurant in the Arden area and that was it. They have no plans to close any other restaurants in the area. However, the local news stated they were closing all of their restaurants. That second sound bite had an enormous effect on Macaroni Grill. They lost 20% of their normal revenue by the bad press. Fortunately, they were able to get a retraction but the rumor is still being spread. It's sad that I see a lot of businesses closing down in town. These are hard working small business owners and they sure deserve some gratitude for chosing Folsom as place to provide their services and products. In closing, I'm sorry to see GoodFellas, Carvel, Java Nation, Fish & Chips and Romano's close. God bless them all for trying to make it work here in Folsom.

Maybe people should try different places to see if they are missing anything, but I don't believe people need to patronize any restaurant out of pity or to only delay the inevitable. Restaurants will fail or survive based on how much it appeals to visitors.
