Unfortunately if it's what I think is wrong, the dealer can't officially fix it as it has to do with the charcoal canister and emissions evap. stuff. CA smog crap basically. If you have recently filled the scooter up when it was cold out and then throughout the day it sits in the sun the gas in the tank expands, that in turn dumps it into the charcoal canister, once the canister is full the scooter will not run anymore. On all of my newer bikes I have bypassed the charcoal canister and never had the problem since.

oh right!.. forgot about the good ol' Cali smog crap stuff...

hey Mike - Chris has excellent advice here - it's absolutely best to bypass the charcoal canister - I've done that on every single bike I've ever owned.

You are exactly right. I filled the gas tank up approx 10 miles before it died. The dealer said I have to find the charcol canister and blow it out with air -- then I will be fine. Or I can take it in and have them do it and they will charge me. I have to find out where this canister is (he didn't know from memory). This may be a good thing... I would like to learn more about the scooter and do some of my own maintenance.

Maybe we can have a scooter maintenance club with all the scooter newbies. I'm going to wait to buy my scooter after I take the safety course at the end of the month. Maybe I'll strike it rich before then too. It'll be hard to do since I don't pump oil or play the lottery. tongue.gif I'm so sorry you had a problem so early in the experience, but you've got a great attitude. I too would try to fix the problem at home before paying them. Kinda surprising they wouldn't help you out since you just made a huge purchase a few days back.

I would try removing it. You will have a vent line from the tank to the canister and one from the canister to the FI. On the other end of the canister there should be a vent line for the canister.

This should get you close...

canister removal

Now, the dealer is not going to tell you to do this, because legally they can't, but it will make a difference.

I found an 02 Vesap ET2 on Craigslist for $1800 in Merced. My parents live there so I could drive down for a visit if it is a good deal. Here are two pics.

I don't mind helping, but I belong to only one scooter club.

Thanks. I thought it was too slow, but wanted to check it out with the only expert I know (online that is).
