one of these days we should get together for a day at the range with lunch in town afterwords

That's a good idea.
My next two weekends are booked though.
I would rather be Backpacking

Sounds like a good idea -- what we usually do is range + Squeeze Inn burger. Manly stuff. Woof.

Good times lmaosmiley.gif

Exactly! ... the perfect day, we'll hafta plan this for some Saturday

I usually get my supplies at Wild Sports or www.topgunsupply.com.

I usually get my (CCI Blazer range) ammo at Wild Sports (w/ the coupon in the Bee).

I don't have a set place for getting HD ammo (ie - Federal hollow points). I'm opportunistic there.

NP -- I figured one of us missed a post.

Doesn't work -- the link pastes okay but then the posting process takes out some of the link and replaces it w/ "..."

Go here and search for "peltor ultimate 10": http://www.midwayusa.com/

These have been pretty good for me and reasonably priced. Wouldn't mind hearing about other things that might be better in this price range. It works pretty good but is just a little bulky for my range bag. And again, if i could cut the noise a little bit more.....

found it. they look pretty good. If they are comfortable, $20 isn't that bad for preventing unrepairable hearing loss. 30dB reduction is pretty good also, and for those unfamiliar with the true meaning of decibels that is a power amplitude reduction of a 1000 times or in other words, the amplitude of the sound waves that penetrate the headset are 1/1000 of the amplitude of the sound waves on the outside of the headset.

In other words, dB follows a logorithimic scale, just like the Richter scale. smile.gif

What?

I thought a dark lord would understand this already.

Sound is made up of alternating air pressure changes that travel in waves. the differences between the high and low pressure points is what defines the amplitude of the sound wave.
dB is short for decibel, deci being 10X and bel being the base ten logarithm of the ratio of amplitude of sound waves inside the headset divided by the amplitude of the sound waves outside the headset.

Who can afford to go out to lunch after a day at the range?

Easy, if you snap caps instead of live ammo. laugh.gif

The range is pretty cheap, it's the ammo that's expensive ($8-$14 per 50 rounds). But the range is only about $10 plus a few bucks for targets.

The most expensive part about a day at the range -- the beer. smile.gif

Ammo: $50
Beers and Burgers: $20
Being able to Woof like a man: Priceless smile.gif

Yeah, ammo has gotten too expensive for me to justify going out shooting with my .357 pistol or shotguns. I can easily run through $50 worth of "cheap" .38 ammo in 30 minutes of shooting. Thank goodness for .22's! Last I checked, you could still buy a box of 500 .22 cartridges for $9 or so.

I guess it was worth it as an investment when I stocked up on ammo 5 or so years ago.
I probably still have 5 or 6 boxes of 357, and 7 or 8 of 44 Magnum. It feels like shooting is free to me.

I'm not convinced. How many houses would you have right now if you had bought Apple stock back then instead? laugh.gif

Well, that would depend on how many apples, I mean apple stock I would have to had bought back then, but at roughly an 18X increase in 5 years, yes, that would have been a better investment than the ammo I bought, but the amount I spent on ammo times 18, still wouldn't have bought me a house.
