glad to see we are keeping the cash idea alive..was on a trip and sure enough when I said folsom, they came back with folsom prison blues.

if the city needs money they could always keep with the council tradition and sell out to a devloper...the angelo bridge, elliott span.....or even cc myers. these folks have big ego's and would like a memorial in their name.

heck, old Miklos might be waiting for EDF to get a movement to name it after him, like they did the Jack Kipp City hall.

If anyone has the results of the KFBK poll, please email me. My address was posted earlier in this thread.

With regard to Lake Natoma, it is a wide spot in the river that has a dam upstream and downstream (at the fish hatchery) - which makes it a lake.

For those who like the idea of more money in the City's coffers - if we name it after Johnny Cash, there will be an increase in tourism. You may not drive over it because of who it is named for, but there are lots of others who will - just because they can. I was at the Prison a few weeks ago, with a TV Crew. During the 30 minutes we were at the main gate, 5 car loads of people drove up to take pictures near the entrance to the old prison, and asked it they could go on a tour (which of course they can not). That was around 4:30 on a Wednesday afternoon. The Chamber gets about 100 hits per day with people looking for info on the prison and Johnny Cash. If people come to Folsom to drive across the bridge, they will stop for lunch or dinner, shop at the Factory Stores, maybe stay at a hotel and, as one of my friends said, maybe even buy gasoline - that has the potential to add up to a fair amount of spending here in town. Naming it anything that does not refer to Johnny Cash will lead to NO additional tourism - so why waste that opportunity?

Kerri, what can we do if, as a group of citizens, we want to revisit the issue of naming of the bridge?

CV...

it's called "pressure"...

How about some residents getting together... pool a litthe $$$ together.. put an ad into the Folsom Telegraph directing people to the "johhny cash bridge" site and sign the petition...

"you must be a Folsom REsident to vote"...

Then you take that list of "petitions" to the City Council...

Prior to that... get some "face time" on the TV channels.. Fox 40.. get that Good Day Sacramento show out there... Call channel 3, 10 and 13... they love this kind of "sh*t"...

but someone has to be the person pushing it... co ordinate this with Kerri Howell.. maybe get a press conference out there in front of the entry of the new bridge... get some publicity... and then all of a sudden your "cred" is increased...

Do you need anymore ideas...? just ask me...

PS...

by the way... if you get some publicity... and even if you run into resistance from the city council... you'll have shown how powerful the internet is...

I mean if Obama can get all this support on the internet... don't you think we have enough "like minded" people that will get on the net and sign an "on-line" petition...?

I'd like to see something with Johnny Cash's name in it...

but sadly ... I think you folks are "p*ssing" in the wind... the city hall crowd don't give a rat's *ss what you think...

so maybe if you are passionate about it... why don't you "techy" guys put up a petition to be signed by "residents"...

you could easily set up a website... have a "log-in" and get some names and addresses of people that are serious about it as you are... lot's easier than sitting out in front of Raley's and Savmart collecting signatures on a petition...

Maybe if they see about a thousand or two signatures on a petition they will "get the memo"...

worth a shot... what's it cost for a domain name and a funky website to do this.. put the link in myfolsom here... let the press know what you are doing... and you'll get lots and lots of attention...

I'm the "idea guy"... now somebody take this ball and run with it...

You're welcome...

I know it was Steve Miklos' idea - based on newspaper reports.....isn't he a somebody in local REP Party as well?

Now, that was informative...I always wondered what's up with the name Lake Natoma...I can now sleep well - with one less unsolved riddle in my cereberum.

I've seen see you in the city hall meetings - talking straight and blunt - while eveybody else trying their best to win popularity contest within the city hall circles....so can totally believe your money explanation...

So, am a convert and want the bridge named Johnny Cash Bridge....

I spoke with Steve M about it, and he made a good point, and that is that the neither the Chamber nor the Tourism Bureau has done much marketing relative to Johnny Cash. He played 2 concerts at the prison, and a movie about him filmed a couple of scenes there. We know that even without marketing to tourists, some still seek us out. Why aren't we/they doing more?

That error certainly doesn't justify continuing to ignore the puplic association between Folsom and Cash. Heck, it doesn't make a bit of different if Cash spent 20 years in Folsom prison or stopped to use the bathroom. The point is that Cash puts Folsom on the national map for most Americans. Don't argue with that type of success, take advantage of it.

can you imagine the national publicity the ribbon cutting would get?? invite Johnny Cash's daughter to cut it and play lots of Cash music. It would be awesome and the press would eat it up!!!

I'm not so sure, but then again I don't see Cash as some kind of Biblical figure as many of you do.
I have opinions, you have opinions. We'll just call it even...is that OK ??

A footnote at best. I still fail to see the hype around this guy and his Folsom "legacy."

Nobody is making him out to be a biblical person....he was a musician...and it is common knowledge that famous artists have messed up personal lives...

Naming the bridge will generate lot of publicity for Folsom...that we hopefully translate into sales tax dollars into the city coffers

Piggybacking on EDF's ideas, it would cost about 10.00 to register johnnycashbridge.com or changethefolsomlakecrossingnameNOW.com or something similar....

Naw, we all know naming a public structure after a Biblical figure in this day and age wouldn't be allowed.
