***flinch*** I am not gloating. On the contrary---I am angry, remiss, feel a bit like C_Vanderveen accuses us all of feeling sympathy (because I recognize that she prolly does have kids and a hubby)--I understand the the social, employment, emotional, marital, family. and mental matters of this. I understand because I have known people out there who have been in the same shoes--she finds herself in.

I'm not after her blood, per se.

But Good Garsh--how in the world can you live to be in your 30's, and not be aware that taking in any kind of alcohol requires PRIOR planning?

This was not an accident.

Accidents happen all the time. People accidently press on the gas instead of the break in bad traffic and have a fender bender.

People do not accidently have a drink of alcohol then get behind a moving vehicle and cause harm to another person.

I can't and I won't make excuses or blithely say--oops, she made a bad judgement call.

I can't think of one single country in the world that does not have laws against driving after drinking. This is not a new concept.

But, Pari---don't think I don't have a heart.

I just have one that was once ripped out by a drunk driver.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I have been active in the anti-drunk driving movement since I was president of SADD back in highschool (waaay back in the 80s!) and my heart goes out to you.

Supermom - I'm sorry about what happened to you and your family. sad.gif

My brother was killed by a drunk driver in the 60's and wasn't even given a ticket. At least some things have changed.

I don't have much to add, except that this woman wasn't drunk from a glass of wine with dinner. Double the limit is pretty wasted! While I don't condone the one glass of wine driver, at least that could be considered a mistake. When you are plastered, the word mistake cannot even been uttered.

What is the saddest thing to me is that people are STILL driving drunk. It's too bad the gov't hasn't come up with a good deterrent. That EDH bimbo is a prime example.

We're all adults. We know if we drink, we shouldn't drive. Before her first drink she should have figured out a way to get home. She chose not to. She chose to get behind the wheel, and look what happened. I don't care if she is a church going, god fearing woman. I don't care if she regularly saves the handicapped. Who cares if she serves food to the homeless. She made a dumb move, endangered not only herself, but heck, maybe even my family since she was driving in Folsom. I don't see how anyone in their right mind can have compassion for the idiot. Tell you what, let her read this post. If she's not too stupid to comprehend it. I say throw the book at her dumba$$ and let the cards fall where they fall. Stupid is as stupid does....sir.

Sorry to hear about the financial woes in your household. I thank God I have a job and will have one next year. My parents are retired and are having to go back to the workforce to make ends meet. I pray that God will give you new employment in a timely manner. (I have a friend who lost his job just before new years and has another one in the same field and started last week. (Civil engineer---no building no jobs) He hit the internet sites, but also got leads by word of mouth. What kind of work do you do? Maybe somebody who posts posts here can give you a lead! smile.gif

I find it odd that her situation even remotely matters.

I was layed off last week, my husand is getting a 10% pay cut starting next month because he is a CO... with no furlough days, my previous employer paid all our benefits, we now have to pick up his, thats another $450 out of our pocket after my layoff and his paycut. AND my 6 year threw a MAJOR tantrum today, in front of friends and family...

None of the above although they ALL suck, are a reason to make a bad choice.

I would love to get drunk and pass out, maybe forget my problems... but instead I will continue to review my bills, create a resume, email, network and so on because that is the right choice.

Just saying we always have choices, thats what I teach my children...

This thread is going in this direction because people even subtly are attempting to make excuses or explanations for choices...

Like I said if in fact she did drink, drive, and hit a car that hit a person... if that is found to be true, Then there can be no more added to the story on her behalf because again regardless of lifes crap, or circumstances if a person... drinks.. drives... hits car... hits person...

then thats all there is. And yes that IS most definitely BLACK and WHITE!

In my case it was a drunk pilot and my spouse who ended up dead. The pilot died too so nobody left to blame. It's interesting how many of us in this small myfolsom environment have been affected by drunk "drivers."

And Democrats in particular have a history of facilitating this obstructionism in exchange for campaign donations and votes." . . .Amanda Ripley re "Waiting for Superman" movie.

I worked at Delta Dental. I was an analyst in provider enrollment, unfortunately sort of specialized. I am open to new avenues for sure! As far as my husbands paycut.. it sucks, but I can say thank goodness it isn't another layoff. I have many blessings and am very fortunate in many ways, I believe things will work out, I just have to do my part and keep on searching and following leads...

Thanks for your kind words!

My mom worked for Delta. They classified her as a "manager" so she was saleried but she never managed anyone. They made her work long hours and Saturdays for no extra pay and her manager even kept track of how often she went the bathroom. She was in enrollment so the computer kept track of anytime they were not logged into the system to receive calls. They went through people so fast half the people there always needed to be trained. However, since they were supporting a gov't contract the enrollees didn't have any choice but to complain to their congressman (other than just not take the service, which was actually over priced anyway).

Delta employes are classified as union or management... basically if you were admin asst or above y0u were considered management and you were a salaried employee. I was in the same boat. But, they just started implementing a new policy, if you do not actually supervise people or handle financial documents, you are now reqd to clock in and out... this is a good thing because too many people were staying late and working saturdays and not getting compensated because they were salaried... since Delta won't pay overtime, it will force those people to clock out and go home... no more giving your time to Delta for free.

I was in Denti-Cal, but we carry other state govt programs also, like healthy familes...

Sounds like Delta Dental was illegally classifying employees as Exempt when they shouldn't have been. There are strict guidelines as to who can be considered Exempt and therefore not subject to overtime pay.
I would rather be Backpacking

Yep, but what are you going to do? Leave your job? When the union guys went on strike it didn't cost Delta anything because they just made everyone else work harder to make up the difference and they were all saleried anyway. I finally took over my paying my mom's mortgage and car payment for her so she was able to not have to deal with this stuff. She was ageing 5 years every year she was there.

While in the position, I understand being fearful of ratting out your employer.
But after leaving, there are ways to make them pay.
One is the lawsuit going after wages she deserved, but if she wasn't up for that battle, just reporting to them EDD saying you are only interested in your ex-coworkers, please investigate, but leave me out of it, is another approach to get back at them.

This is why they are re categorizing empoyees, we were told it was a federal issue, so it sounds like maybe somebody already put Delta on somebodys radar.

When Delta went on strike, I was still union, I was pregnant and standing in the July heat was miserable, but we were told if we crossed we would be sued by the union. I was scared.. I had some friends cross, nothing ever happened to them...

I worked there for 9 years, and I enjoyed it for the most part... it's all about the dept you work in and the people you work with...
