on a different note

I saw the sign is going up for the New location for Visconti's, can't wait to check out the new digs when they open up there.

I think they're moving this weekend. Last time I was there, a month or so ago, I think he said May 2nd was their hopeful opening.

Arzi's closed and was replaced by a new place which closed within a few months (can anyone recall the name). Now we have Mr Kebab in it's place, hopefully that will survive.

The latest is that they are closing the old location down today and then spending the next 3 or 4 days moving to the new location. Which by the way is going to be nice---very nice with a small private bar area, a meeting room and spacious dining areas, along with a pation facing E. Bidwell. They hope to be open on the 6th or 7th. See you all there !!!

It's not Folsom, but it's close. A Maad Tea Party in the Town Center is closing later this month. It is a unique, interesting place and will be missed.

I'm amazed they lasted as long as they did.

Really? We had the satay once there and it was *horrible*

That was one of the driving factors for going to Thai Siam or GBTB (geebee teebee?). If we ever wanted Satay we thought Amarin's was garbage. Wonder if they just ran out that one night and had to hit the freezer Costco pack.

I like the plain white toast you get w/ Thai Siam's satay. It works so well I'm surprised I'd never seen it before.

I know Amarin's had their place up for sale forever. Wonder if they sold and we'll see something new, or if they just folded and we get another empty retail space.

Mylo, it is with great sadness to me that I must tell you that our favorite Thai restaurant is now closed !!! Damn !! I really did enjoy the food and ambience there. Nothing else around comes close to it. In my opinion of course....

No, I was not talking about Thai Siam closing. My statement was about Granite Bay Thai Bistro, in my opinion a very good Thai restaurant... so rest assured that the Thai Siam is still open as far as I know...

Glad to hear that about Thai Siam.
They've been my favorite for Thai in town for years.

They are not as yet closed, but how on God's green earth is Granito's still open? I and a companion walked in for lunch last week, at about 12:15PM. I waited at what I perceived to be the hostess' stand (at least thats where the menus were stacked) for a few minutes, and received no acknowledgement whatsoever. So, I followed the trail of the canned soft jazz (things out of a can seem to be a theme there), and turned a corner to what looked like a bar, occupied by a frumpy woman staring at her laptop. I do not know her purpose, or whether she was with the restaurant or just another neglected customer, as she never looked up. I turned into a dining area that had the smallest, most uncomfortable booths I have ever seen, and came by what upon reflection may have been the only other 2 people in the place. I seated myself, looked at the prices, and asked the other 2 "how was the food?" They replied, "as soon as we get the check, if we ever do, we can't get out of here fast enough. We suggest you do the same."
So, after 5 minutes of seeing no one but the frumpy woman leashed to her laptop and 2 ticked-off, unhappy diners just trying to pay their check, I took their advice. Save yourselves the trouble. I hope the next tennant is better, if they can get the current stink off the place.
Bottom line: Granito's: Not as yet closed, but should be.

Well, they had the "closed for reals" up for a few weeks, and then on Monday I noticed that they had a "Now Open" banner...Not sure what's going on there

I think Planet Smoothie is gone. The sign is still there but there hasn't been any activity in the store since the end of May.

I am not sure if it is coming back. I do know the original owner Ron was able to get the equipment etc through some deal. He may be planning on taking it over and reopening.
