So let me get this straight. This project was initiated way back in 2006, given final approval in March of 2007. The funds were alllocated most likely in the 2007 budget were drawn from a fund to help revitalize and beautify the city. Now in 2009 after an unprecendted economic downturn people are upset. Where were all of these upset people back when this was an issue to be dealt with? It's over, the money has been spent, the signs are up. You may want to spend your time looking at current projects rather than bitching about the past.

By the way, the signs ARE readable at the SPEED LIMIT and any one who thinks that the green signs are going to stay up is an idiot!

Now I'm done!

Questioning the spending of tax dollars on a past project may prevent something like this from happening again.

I can read some of the signs but can't read all of them. I do drive the speed limit. I've had some out of town guests try and read the signs as we drove by and they can't.

If out of town vistors can't read the signs and the purpose was to help visitors find their way, to spend more money, what did this accomplish?

The City should have been able to recognize trends in some areas regarding revenues. The City should have the information regarding the number of building permits issued on a monthly basis and someone within the city should have been forecasting when the city would run out of buildable land N 50 and the impact of these lost revenues. I kept hearing talk of financial deficts at the city before last summer, yet that information wasn't released until AFTER the election. Since tax revenues generally trail economic indicators coupled with the downturn of building permits, I suspect the city should have realized they had revenue problems towards the end of 2007.

I would be curious as to exactly when were these signs ordered?

I had relatives in town this weekend - none of them could read those signs, neither can anyone in my family unless we slow down to 20mph while going by the sign

FYI, the minimum speed limit is 45

in reply to ski bum - anyone who thinks the brown signs are completely legible at all time while maintaining a minimum of 45mph is either lying, or has bionic vision

perhaps the reason you claim you can read them is because as a resident you already know where you are going (same goes for you mylo)

just sayin....

Totally OT, but speaking of new signs ....

Anyone notice the new Folsom Prison sign?

Probably less controversy over whether or not it looks better than the previous sign. But I can't help but wonder how much $$$ it cost the state, and why it would be done now, of all times?

I have not seen it, but I would guess the prisoners made the sign..........there are some very talented inmates that do all kinds of work.........dont know for sure but it is a possiblity.

Kerri, I am new to this, and thought I was sending my reply to one person, not the entire forum.......that was my fault, and it won't happen again. But, if you want to know what I really think, email me and I will give you the straight scoop. I think you will be surprised what myself and many others think. My email is brad_parks@sbcglobal.net

I think its cool to have a little gossip out to everyone. kinda reminds me of a friend who liked to send dirty joks via email and hit the wrong key and sent it to his preacher

I can't believe that the chief of police in a quiet little town would be making that much money. heck thats probably more that the boss of secret service and the CIA make combined

unless there is some real secret govment work going on that folks don't have the need to know

I will bet the firemen would be happy to be driving those zippy police cars around rather than the clunky fire trucks

They do a great job on the license plates...
A VETERAN Whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America" for an amount "up to and including their life". That is HONOR, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it. -Author unknown-

Me thinks the new traffic signs are a traffic hazard and could cause a death or two...

Hard to read.

Too much money.

I guess they're cute signs, in a "faux historic" kind of way. I could see spending, maybe $25k on them.

It's sad that a few staffers could have kept their jobs using the money for those signs.

Kinda remind me of the signs you see at Disneyland or Magic Mountain....Thunder Mountain this way, Revolution, Roaring Rapids, Space Mountain that way.....Not very well thought out.

Are you suggesting the consultants spent the money on rides at Disneyland? They do look Disney like now that you said it.

You are pretty observant. Here is a quote from one of the links I provided on another page regarding the company, Square Peg Designs.

"The City Manager, Economic Development Coordinator and Public Information Officer
interviewed two design firms that had previously been recommended by a panel of staff and community stakeholders . Square Peg Design of Emeryville, California was selected. Square Peg has a team of highly qualified environmental design professionals who have extensive experience developing way finding solutions. The team has created successful way finding programs for complex projects ranging from the City of Sunnyvale to Disney World in Orlando. Scott Cuyler, founding principal and the firm's creative director, has served as project director for these projects, as well as for the City of Folsom."

dang, even the Disney signs are more legible then ours

If they had only used a larger font and not used yellow/orange on brown, our signs might have been more effective.
