Now you sound like one of those kids who waved off help for their dying friends.

I am not quite sure how you make that connection from Bill's post- but leave it to you to figure out a way...

The other kids actions after the fact with an offer of help were certainly not what would be expected - especially if they already knew that the two were dead and another near death.

If I was one of the trailing car's occupants at that age - I would be totally off my rocker and stumbling around trying to find help - but we do not know what condition the bodies were in - were they whole or parts ? if the later- i would imagine a severe trauma to those that saw them would occur- making anything they said understandable...

What Bill was saying is RIGHT - this accident does not make those involved BAD people...

And I am sure those the survived ( the driver) and those other friends- will never ever ever be able to put this tragedy behind them fully...

What I do find intriguing is that the Folsom Student that died was a very popular student and had tons of friends--- When I look back at previous tragedies that I have mentioned before- it always seems one of the dead is one of the most popular kids in the school...
Odd...

Another great  day in the adventure of exploration and sight.

No, I'm not saying what those kids did was OK, but your post implied the kids were punks and the parents would say they were great kids.

If you get an insurance quote for a WRX, it will be significantly more expensive than a quote for a Corvette convert..... and THIS is exactly why.

In fact, after reading this in an article, I confirmed it was absolutely true with my insurance company. Then, just for fun, I got a quote for a Ferrari (an older one, to make the fantasy slightly more realistic).... believe it or not, the Ferrari was a little cheaper than the WRX (same mileage/coverage). Once again, teenage punks don't drive Ferrari's or Vettes.

("teenage punks" meant as a general statement about a smaller segment of the younger driving population, not meant to rub salt in the wounds of these families, or refer to their children specifically - we all make mistakes, and sometimes it only takes one).

That's really odd... I just checked with my insurance company and 2 others and the comp/collision on the Corvette is TRIPLE the WRX...

I find it simply amazing how much people can speculate, draw conclusions, and blow things out of proportion without all of the facts.

Let's go over a few things.

-None of you were there.
-None of you know anything other than what you have read.
-EVERYTHING you say that is not a PROVEN FACT is just speculation and assumptions.
(I include myself when I say "none of you")

Here is what we do know.

-3 Teenagers Died.
-They were driving a Subaru WRX.
-They were on Salmon Falls Rd.
-CHP IS STILL INVESTIGATING.

Last night on the news, I heard there was speculation they were drag racing.

Well, my first thought was, idiot news reporters. Drag racing is done on 1/4 mile stretch of perfectly straight and level road. Anyone that knows anything about racing knows that those kids absolutely were not drag racing. I can't believe the stupidty I hear on the news sometimes.

My speculation is no one was racing, I think there is a good possiblity they were driving fast in a follow the leader sort of way, but not very likely were they actually racing. But the media is too stupid to know the difference, seeing as how they don't even know what drag racing is to realize that is an impossibility on a windy hilly road.

Of course they weren't drag racing but the media doesn't differentiate between that and you should not expect them to. But to say they weren't racing but just "driving fast in a follow the leader sort of way" and not calling that racing is being as dumb about is as the media description. They were racing, plain and simple.

So You were there ? To see with your own eyes ? or you have heard this from someone that WAS there... Bullcrap ....

Driving fast is NOT RACING- even in tandem-- it is just driving fast- We did this all the time when I was younger on motorcycles- no one was trying to beat the other- ( AKA RACE) we just liked going fast on the curves of the mountain road...

I am surprised that Bill did not say it - but all the media wants to portray is a way to get viewer ship and points for advertising revenue.... Period- they do not know their head from an a- hole about what they are talking about most of the time...

and Especially - the reference to DRAG racing --

Anyone Remember - "SUNDAY SUNDAY " about the weekly drag race radio ads in Fremont ?

Another great  day in the adventure of exploration and sight.

Having driven fast on a racetrack in a high performance driver training (still not racing) and having canyon cruised on motorcycles with friends at a high clip (basically taking corners as fast as felt safe, but still not racing) and having raced at Sacramento raceway as well as watched numerous races, I doubt those kids were RACING. I could be wrong, but I bet they were out having fun, which if you have ever raced, you will know that racing is truly different than driving fast for fun.

And why shouldn't I expect the media to report correctly, am I supposed to let them twist stories and tell lies and take them at face value? I know it is what they do, but it isn't what they should do, so I have no problems pointing it out when they do.

I didn't read all the replies, but just as a possible comparison point---

Not sure if anyone is familar with the south Bay, but there's a freeway that goes from San Jose to Santa Cruz over some hills. Inbetween the suburbs, the winding, country part is I guess about 12-15 miles.

It's called Highway 17 (which is the same as 880 up thru the east bay and to Oakland), and basically there's ALOT of accidents there - truck rollovers and such. I think it's because people drive the urban freeway part of it and just aren't expecting it to change as it goes up into the hills. It's actually a safe road providing you're going the speed limit.

I'm not saying the kids were or weren't racing, but that could be a possibility. Even as familar as the driver was with the area, sometimes at night with limited distance you can see, that could've been a factor in the accident.

HWY 17 is a two laned (on bothsides) Highway and not a two laned country road with ALOT lower speed limit for obvious reasons. Just my two cents.

Also, DRAG racing is an organized sport.

STREET racing is not.
