I'm so glad I sold a portion of my shares a couple of weeks ago almost at its year's high to cover my initial investment (bought at $57.10 per share!). Now the rest of what I own is all gravy.

My thoughts were that the build-up to their tablet release was going to bigger than the tablet itself. However, my guess is two-three years down the line the iPad (gag name) is going to rule just like the iPod did.

Good move on your part selling the stock at it's year's high - well done!
I agree, I think the hype was built up so much and yet we were all let down... well except for JLS

There are still too many things this doesn't do. Lack of Flash support I expect will be the real killer for most people.
Each HD movie is only about a 1-2 GB's. Why would we need to store our entire collection on the thing? Just like my iPhone, I store a couple favorites I plan to watch on a trip or something and then re-sync whenever I feel like to get different movies.
Lack of flash support is a killer but won't stop anyone from buying it for the most part. Same as-did for the iPhone. But how do we know their won't be flash support in a few months? Flash is an app that would have to be developed for the iPhone to run... very few apps were made available for this launch. I think its a gray area still. Apple doesn't block its computers from using it, just the iPhones. This is right in-between. Either-way, flash as always is a complaint from me personally as well.
I want something that can run office apps and be more useful then just watching movies and looking at photos and the other things an itouch or iphone already do
Did you actually watch the entire keynote (not the 5 min video on the website)? Showing off the iWork Apps? Not only does this thing run the apps but it does it at a much rich level. I don't think you can beat the word processing, spreadsheet, and keynote apps and how they will work on this thing. While being completely import/export compatible with the computer versions. If you didn't watch that much of the keynote then fast forward and check that part out when they demo iwork as well as the painting app that will give you a good glance at what photoshop could step towards. Although remember that most artists will buy a pen for it and not really use their fat fingers...LOL.

1. These devices power diminishes with the more charge cycles you accumulate regardless of their claims.
2. If you can get 6 hours out of this device for the 1st year then that's plenty good enough for me. At the start I do expect to be able to watch a dvd on a plane from SF to Tokyo as jobs stated.
I do understand that but if they felt inclined they could build other models to match verizon and other carriers technology. But as a million news stories point out... over the past few months Apple became alot less inclined to care about attempting to do that.
As for T-Mobile... you will not be able to take advantage of their 3G as stated. It is not compatible with their 1700MHz band. Read the specs. It will run on edge... but no 3G. ATT is going to be the US option for the iPad 3G.
Apple stock always builds up prior to a product launch... then decipates often during the keynote... then goes up... then goes down. Apples stock is all over the place.
I can tell you that I feel bad for anybody who sells one share of their apple stock at this point unless they need the money in their wallet at the time. I've purchased apple stock since before it split and sold for $14 a share. I merely purchased it as I do all my stocks with the change that I pull out of my pockets every day. I had over a hundred shares of Apple purchased at dirt prices (before the split mostly so I doubled the shares) and then had to sell them when caught in a bind at $100/share right before the iPhone released. The iPhone release launched them to $200 a share within a 5 months I believe. That made a difference of $10,000 if only I had hung on to the stupid things a few more months.
Here is a timeline.
Jan 9, 2007 at the time the original iphone was first announced the stocks were $84 or so per share.
The stocks stayed in limbo within $85-$98 till about late April (when I sold) and the stocks began their journey up from $90 something per share to $200 per share in November.
Don't expect stocks to make moves that matter until a few months after the product release and the #'s actually start getting out.
Maybe selling your stocks now is a safe bet with normal companies but Apple hasn't grown their stock from the iPad yet. So, if things go bad it may build up a few months before and then fall back to about what it is now because they still have the iPhones, Laptops, etc. But if you want to actually MAKE money on Apple stocks... now is a horrible, horrible time to sell them. More like time to start purchasing in preparation for about December of this year.
