Rather than complaining, how about a thank you?

Let's keep in mind that John puts a lot of time an effort into this as opposed to everyone else here who visits for free, gets a lot of great information from here for free, etc.
Rather than complaining, how about a thank you?
I've thanked John many times before. I hope he knows we do appreciate all his hard work, but he did ask for feedback, and some of us are trying to figure out the new stuff.

I'm a nerd that's glued to my computer. To me there are only minor changes. The only big difference to me is the colors are different, and the box sizes are different, and other formatting stuff.
What is it you feel you need to 'relearn'? I have this problem with my parents sometimes. It's almost like they learn the exact spot where a button is, instead of learning what the button actually does and how it's labeled, so if you move it an inch, they're lost. Is that the stuff you need to 'relearn' or is it something deeper I just don't get.
I totally agree. Although, I miss the old format, it's not hard when you understand the process of submitting the message. I think in general people who are younger have less of a problem adapting to change. Plus, I grew up with a computer in my house since I was a child.I format messages through a freeform system at work. AKA I am a nerd too...hehe

The colors will continue to be a work in progress. Once I have a good TomatoPages skin, I will start working on skins for MyFolsom, MyEDH, etc...
There are lots of things for me to work on, believe me. I will have my hands full for a while.

Everyone give John some time to get everything worked out. He just made some huge changes to the forum software. I am sure he is working on getting the look and feel back to what everyone is happy with. I run a forum for another local city and I know firsthand what it takes to keep everything running and perform these types of upgrades. John has a job and family and it takes a great deal of time to make a major upgrade like this. I think John appreciates the feedback so keep it coming, but don't run away just yet. Give John the time to get everything working smoothly again.

John the site looks good, (I am referring to the forumversion upgrade, I know you are still working with the skin). I have been checking out the same forumsoftware for a new site. Have youthought about using IP.Content for the rest of the site? Let me know if you need any help, I wouldlove to see the operations of the forum software outside of the demo version.

Well, as others have noted, where is the "top" button?I'm a nerd that's glued to my computer. To me there are only minor changes. The only big difference to me is the colors are different, and the box sizes are different, and other formatting stuff.

OK, I found "View new content" has replaced "Today's New Posts". Why did the description of the same function have to change? Does the new description add value? No, it doesn't, but it's something I had to go searching for and figure out rather than it working just the same as it always did.
how about where is the "world" selection to get to the politics? It's not up at the top of this page like it used to be, so now I have to go find out how I can get to the world politics section again. It's wasting my time trying to figure out how to navigate something that used to be routine for me.
I will say I kinda like the new art depicting downtown sacramento, but the changes in how to navigate the forum I find irritating. I don't like having to go find things that are no longer where they used to be. It's kinda like if someone was to break into your house and completely re-organize your kitchen, and then you get home and try to prepare dinner. Where are the measuring cups? Where do I find my cast iron pan? etc.

I get it. I expected resistance. Change is hard. It's never a good time. However it was necessary. Mobile devices are not going away, and we needed a mobile-friendly version. We should have an iPhone app in a couple weeks.

I like the new look. I found the settings to hide avatars and signatures but can't find a way to hide someones interests. On my monitor there are some that are about 15" long. Is there a way to hide those too?

So what's the best way to go directly to the last post on a thread with this newness?
clicking on the thread title takes me to the last unread post.

It only does that sometimes. Most of the time it takes me back to page 1 even though I've read the posts before.
