Nope, not just you. I can't believe what they call each other.

Do the parents even have a clue of what their children do at night?

The comments on the Telegraph are just as disturbing, one parent saying something like it's not realistic to expect your kids not to be in trouble these days.

My idea of trouble is your child not calling when they are supposed to and letting you know where they are and who they are with or not doing his or her homework or forgetting to do his or her chores, not a couple misdemeanors or felonies for things like assualt with a weapon or assualt with serious bodily injury. Talk about different parenting styles.

You know your right about that. There are alot of parents that dont have a clue what their kids are doing at night. Im a mother of 3 girls. One of my daughters friends is one that has no boundries. Her parents make me seem like Im a psycho for wanting to know what my kid is doing at all times (she is 15). I started to second quess myself but then after this news hit I knew I was right about my decisions. One thing that we need is a support group for moms of teens. We can compare parenting ideas to see if we are too strick or not enough.

These teens want to go hang out at Oak Chan and I hear thats the worst place. Drug deals left and right over there.

Good call... clean up gangs, drugs, and homeless to turn some around.

Maybe we can also get some to never start. Drug use starts in elementary and junior high. Even last week Vista closed the bathrooms due to pot use.

Really? They closed the bathrooms down? Didnt hear about that. Well as far as gangs go I really didnt think we had any problems like that here. Im use to seeing real gangs on the light rail. I know they dont have to look tough to be a gangbanger. Just trying to be one is bad enough. The night those kids all gathered to pay their respects to Minor I drove by and saw alot of red.

...or, strict.

Ah, the Internet is a wonderful thing.

Since everyone is playing armchair prosecutor, I decided to look both the suspect and the victim up in the Sacramento Superior Court database.

Both have criminal records. Neither is a saint. Based on the records of both of them, if past behavior is a predictor of future behavior, then this was an unfortunate combination that met up that day.

Although one of them has pled no contest to arguably more serious crimes.

To correct this inaccuracy - Joshua Allen Atkins has NO criminal record; there is a Joshua Ellis Atkins with criminal history (with a completely different date of birth).

How can you look up this information? I'm curious...

Something I don't get is that if you know gang bangers where red, and rivals young people who wear red, and cops stop, question, and search young people who wear red, a why would you insist on wearing red?

How often do we see a story where a young man meets a violent death and all of his friends gather to mourn him, wearing red?

well, looks like Joshua may be getting three hots and a cot back in Folsom one day, at least in Folsom Prison. Although, with the way the state is treating the justice system, he may just end up in county jail for a long visit. No matter what, he won't be homeless for a long time.
Knowing the past helps deciphering the future.

May be. Went by there on the bike path last evening about 7:30 pm (in the rain) and there were a half dozen or so kids smoking pot (I may be getting older, but you don't forget that aroma) at a covered picnic table at one of the mini parks just west of Prewitt Park. Given the recent goings on, I did not waste any time calling the police, but I didn't stick around to find out what happened.

I'm not sure what you mean by "legal cover." Having the card doesn't authorize them to sell it. Or do you mean it gives them cover to carry it and as long as they're not caught in the act of actually selling they're protected?

I think you can walk around with it without being called a dealer.

( Unless of course the DEA or other feds are speaking with you - love the IRS ruling in Oakland BTW )

I saw a ad for a carwash to help pay for Minors funeral. Powerhouse Ministries is paying for the funeral, from what the flyer said. . .

I've never understood why these victims' families have fundraisers for funeral/burial when there's a state program to pay for all expenses of the deceased victim. Seems like some are double-dipping. The victims and/or families are notified immediately of that program and other resources by the law enforcement agency involved.

They've already had at least one car wash the week after this happened. I saw kids out with signs at the corner of East Bidwell & Wales and then again in front of Powerhouse on Wales where the car wash was happening. I can't remember if it was the 5th or 6th.

If that is what the money is needed for, I hope they learn about the program Terry posted.

Your wish (hope) is my command. :) Powerhouse is now informed (I emailed them the link to the info page as well as the application page Terry provided).

By the way, here is the posting I found on the powerhouse website:

http://www.phmfolsom.org/web/tragedy-strikes-powerhouse/

The gov compensation provides for up to $5,000; the family is asking for $6,000.

That was really nice of you. So are they having another car wash? The link for Powerhouse shows it was on the 6th.

The guy should have been behind bars, but instead got into more trouble and got himself killed. Why should we help pay for his funeral when he was up to NO GOOD!?
